What a let down, been to this place many times before (for dinner) first time for breakfast. The service was non existent, after 20 min of waiting we left. A table of 5 was done when we got there and were still waiting to pay their bill when we left. They had to get up and ask the cook for a to go box. There were only two other tables with people besides us and the table that was done, the one server should have had no problem taking care of all of us. The kitchen didn't look clean, looked like grease splatter on the back of the cook top and a pile of what looked like hash browns on shelf below it. This was our lunch on the way back from a visit to Diamond Lake. They have bacon wrapped onion rings, so it was a go from there. We ordered several items and sort of split them, and it was a filling lunch. My daughter and Hubby ate the hearty food, and I just noshed on naked wings. And let me tell you, they have a pea salad that you will remember. They all were so nice with my little loud grandaughter, and the kid breakfast she had was more than she could handle. Friendly welcome and the bartender brought our water and menus right away. Nice menu but since it was a late lunch, we shared a cheeseburger and fries w/tartar sauce. Walking in, the smell from the kitchen hits you first. The whole area is clean and welcoming. Now let's talk about the food - WOW! I drove up here hoping to have a great experience like so many have had. We love supporting new and local restaurants so this was on the list. Unfortunately, we did not have the outstanding experience we had hoped for. We started out with cheese curds for an appetizer and while they were good, they were very, very greasy. The ranch dip that was brought out with them was very good though. My wife ordered the steak bite appetizer for dinner and I had the steak sandwich. The bites were just soaked in grease, leaving a puddle at the bottom of the tray, and it was nearly 50% fat. The sandwich was pretty decent, with the A1aioli being very good. Again, the meat and onions were saturated in grease. Service was good and friendly as reported by just about everyone. We really wish it had been a better experience, and maybe it was just an off night. read more

Mary and I stopped in here tonight for the first time for dinner. We were greeted by friendly staff and seated. This is a new business, and everything is clean and bright. I had the steak sandwich, pan seared and sliced rib eye steak, smokey A1 aioli, mozzarella cheese, sauteed onions, mushrooms on a hoagie roll; they asked how I wanted my steak cooked, I asked for medium rare and that is how it was on the sandwich, very good steak, the roll was fresh and soft, I could taste the grilled onions, there was lots of cheese, and the sauce was good. This was a delicious sandwich. I had the house salad option, all the greens and veggies were fresh, but a standard salad. Mary had the Backroads burger, which was cooked exactly as she requested it, delicious; the side of pea salad was very good. You should get in here and give this place a try. read more

Backroads is exactly what this area needed! Family owned by a great family. The food is amazing, my family has tried everything on the menu. Favorites are the steak sandwich (to die for!), black and blue pizza, steak bites and coleslaw. But I would recommend anything on the menu. The service is great! There is always smile on the face of whoever comes to serve you. They are very attentive! The restaurant has TVs and filled with video games for the kids, the bar has music and TVs while you enjoy adult beverages. Which is great cause you can ask all your questions and for some I guess it means overhearing opinions and information (gotta love small towns) Price: Fair - not Highway robbery and not bargain basement. Burgers range from 12-16 and steak for 30. We ordered beer/cider for 7 a piece. I do appreciate that they have children priced drinks rather than charging my 32 lb 4 year old for the same price drink as a full grown adult. Ambience: Country clean/ throwback. It's clean and the black n white with antlers is a great nod to the area .... The vintage arcade games from my youth are a fun distraction for all. Food: Solid and lg portions. I ordered Swiss burger (bunless) with pea salad my husband ordered steak sandwich. His comment (oh that's real steak!). We inquired about gluten intolerance and they were quick to verify with distributors (def went above and beyond) the pea salad was my fave part (owners recipe). Did I mention the portions were perfect?!?! They have tons of pizza on the menu as well but we didn't order that yet. Amazing customer service, great staff, excellent food, great ambiance/feeling. I've never left any sort of reviews but this place was just so amazing and the food was so perfect I had to share. My food was cooked to perfection. The woman serving me and my grandpa was amazing and had an amazing attitude that made us feel instantly welcomed. I love this place!!! The staff is always very friendly and go above and beyond to make your visit as enjoyable as possible. Everything I have tried has been delicious but the steak sandwich is absolutely amazing. I really like steak sandwiches and this is by far the very best one I've ever had. It has "real" steak, as in a big steak that was cut into sandwich sized pieces, and put on a bun with A1 aioli, grilled onions and mushrooms and cheese. I like that they ask you how you want the steak cooked which I've never been asked before for a sandwich. The fact that I could get it cooked medium rare made it even better. The fam and I needed food after heading back from the fruit Orchards. This placed popped up when looking for pizza bc who doesn't love pizza? The pizza was solid with generous portions at a good price. The staff is very nice and changed the channels for us so we could watch football in the family area. I was some of the arcades didn't work when entering my quarter. Before coming here I was reminiscing about pizza places with arcades from my childhood. I hope they can get them to work better.
