Casting of course, can be extremely timely and specfic. The several bigger paying gigs that they do get on their site, can be very specific, require multiple files and naming conventions - but - BS has been rudely insistent for years to their paying customers, that they will only allow a single file to upload in response to an audition. Perhaps they are unaware of the larger casting requirements that bigger casting agents require, as BS has asked me specifically for examples where multiples files were requested. On the other hand, a simple peak at Actors Access or Casting Networks audition requests, shows a very easy, clear multiple file and renaming ability - and ordering the files/takes, which is very important also. Larger Casting directors likely know these limitations of Backstage, and use the other 2 systems (as the number of quality, higher paying and Union gigs that they have, seems apparrent). I dont think I have ever seen a 5-15k commerical listed on Backstage, or a co-star on network TV. And they charge a very high cost imo, for the slow support, flexibilty and assistance in helping professional actors meet casting and submission requirements. read more

I told them about 2 casting agents 1 who wanted money for you to be considered, the other asking you to sign a waiver before any job is given or pay, I gave them screen shoots, amd got nothing but a blane game saying I didn't send her aka LANZ customer service enough info, and balmed me. Dont waste your money, amd if you are mic race good luck very small amount of jobs for you, and casting agents really only want to cast people in there own state or city. I even offered to fly myself out and put myself up in a hotel, just so I can get more experience and build my resume.. NOPE . GOOD LUCK. Find an agent read more

My son had the pleasure of using this site. He was just starting out and got some great offers for independent and university productions right away that really helped him get started. He was on the site for many years, and has moved on from acting, but he would not have had nearly the success he did without backstage. read more

It's all a bunch of free work Posting fake gigs to justify charging these poor unsuspecting actors. The also give casting directors incentive to post gigs that are not in production. And actors have to pay for this. You can do better on FB casting pages. read more

David L and Stephanie and others we have recently TRIED to work with, simply do not care about customers. They did NOTHING to help a very simple situation and instead remained inactive on pursuing any simple resolve. I'm taken back by the un-professionalism from this supposed "huge" entertainment industry standard casting. Trust me, go to Casting Frontier or Actors Access for ALL your casting needs. Until they actually take the time to care and hold a regular conversation and admit anything, they are 1 star pure and simple. We do not and will not recommend them to any of actor, cast or crew, both current or future, and will begin to express how unprofessional they have been with us to our connections of producers, directors and ET professionals and creatives. Backstage is no longer it when it comes to promoting an acting workshop. They'll take your money but will not give you access to those interested in acting. They limit reach so you'll pay more, following iG lead, Facebook lead. I went from 25 prospects a post to 1 or 2 submissions, it's beyond odd after years. I also suspect it's a conflict of interest to offer free classes that's not associated with a Backstage promotion, it does not help with their free promotion or paid promotions they promote. IG and Facebook, even Eventbrite is more feasible and better suited for this purpose I'm realizing, I'm grateful to backstage competition. Had to share. read more

Telephone Support would be preferable as some of the questions / issues as some of the things asked for in the Profile (aka., Documents) are vague and need clarification (aka., What kind of Documents are required); also, things like repeat Credits (aka., multiple performances could be better served with one entry with date range - or multiple receipt of the same awards with one entry and date(s) received, etc.), needing personal input with a Tech Support person, again preferably by phone. Phone Support would also be helpful for users with physical disabilities or limitations. Over all the system seems thorough, though is not as "User Friendly" for "newbies." This is a great platform for performers of most types, as well as backstage workers. If you don't have an agent, it's a great tool for finding open auditions, and other industry ins. It's also a great place for finding talent if you're in production. I am not renewing my subscription this year, due to Covid-19. But when the country opens back up and is safe again, I will most likely re-subscribe again. read more

Be careful when providing your credit card to this website. They will continue charging renewals at higher prices. Their refund policy is made in such a way that by the time you see the transaction in your credit card statement that you can't ask for refund. They will charge a full year at $165. They totally rely on this as part of their revenue system. They make a living out of scamming starving artists. Now let's talk about the website: the design is flawed. Looks nice but the navigation is all screwed. After each time you apply for a role, be prepared to having to browse all the way from the start adding the filters because this website is just not designed for someone to apply to multiple roles. Once you apply for one role it is almost as a check out. You have to go back again to the "search function" enter the filters and jump all the pages till you reach where you were in the beginning. Most ads are for student productions. Lack of professionalism is to be expected. You will rarely find an actual role, for an actual production. It seems that this website is for productions that can't get actual talent and are looking for unpaid actors. read more

I have used Backstage for the past three years as a place to obtain acting opportunities. The system is affordable, relatively easy to navigate, and their customer support is courteous and helpful. In the past two years I've had over two dozen gigs ranging from student films to paid local and regional commercials. It has provided a wonderful platform for me to grow and learn. They have had a few technical issues I have come across, but when alerted they respond quickly and continually upgrade to make it better. Although I subscribe to a few others, Backstage has offered the best bang for my buck. read more

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE regarding the monthly subscription. Buyer beware. They refuse to cancel the service. Will be submitting a complaint to BBB on unethical practices. Not to mention customer service was extremely rude. After spending hundreds of dollars they refuse to even reimburse me even just $20 for one month when I finally reached customer support on the first business day of the month - claiming I had to pay all the way until the end of the month. I sent them proof I had reached out and tried to cancel months ago and they treated me so rudely and re-sent the SAME customer support message to me multiple times asking how to improve and not listening to my feedback. They clearly are disorganized and also UNETHICAL! I also have not used the service in over a year which they could clearly see. It would not be difficult to grant a small refund considering how they've made so much off me and never sent a monthly or annual statement of billing to me. Disgraceful. Wow I see I'm not alone in their handling of basically stealing my money. READ THE OTHER REVIEWS - there are plenty that have been scammed. So, I clicked on the virtual chat connection and the Rep. was very friendly and assisted me. If you're looking mainly for BG work, don't do Backstage - I've been searching and applying for BG work on Backstage consistently for the last 2 months since I got it and haven't booked a single job. I think Backstage is probably more for actors who do principal work and commercials and lots of short films and student films. My main gripe is that I thought I'd be able to get BG work b/c that's what I want to do and haven't been successful doing it on Backstage - on the bright side, it was only $99 for the year and they're doing a sale right now where it's only $75 so it's pretty cheap. read more

First, I'll state that I'm not an aspiring actor. I am a former model with LA Models for seven years back in the 90's and had a successful career that landed me some acting/commercial gigs by default. Fast-forward 20-yrs, as a FT student in the medical field, I can't have a "normal" job. I needed flex. So I joined Backstage to be able to "choose" my side jobs. I don't sign up for lead roles, either. And I only sign up for PAYING jobs. That sifts out a lot of student films that offer exposure and experience to new actors. However, some student films pay, as do background jobs. I've had a lot of fun doing some of these side gigs, and with online commercial campaigns being so prevelant, a lot of those offers come through. Backstage offers a variety of short-term jobs, from lead roles in major productions, hair shows, infommercials, even selling stuff at trade shows, and working VIP events in catering. I joined up with a catering gig where I can choose if I want to work or not. Some of it is for buffets at Universities, others are VIP events at the Arts Centers, Golden Globes, Music Awards, in fact, I'm working two days at the Emmy's in Sept. For actors or people that enjoy the "scene", it can be a lot of fun and they are based around inconsistent schedules. And the catering gigs have given me a lot of side money since I joined last year. I have made back my money and then some. I just got cast for a supporting role in an online streaming show that pays $50/hr. So if you are open and keep yourself available, you never know when you'll get that "right gig" that carries you a little further than expected. It's fun! The only thing I'd ramp up is support for talent. I didn't get paid for a quick short on a hair product and Backstage said they usually don't get involved in "client-talent disputes". Where LA Models used to put the SMACKDOWN on anyone that was abusive or inappropriate to the models, Backstage said "good luck and let us know if you have continued problems and we'll see...". That was a little disheartening. "I DID finally get paid, but after 45-days of hounding the client for a check I should've gotten within a week of shooting". All in all, it has been and continues to be fun! read more

I have never felt so inclined to leave a negative review. Wasn't aware that they only have a 10 Day window to cancel a Year's subscription for a refund. Contacted them on the 16th day & they basically told me too bad you didn't know, go F- myself. They don't offer any breakdowns you can't get anywhere else (Actor's Access is way better), & they advertise catering gigs as if it's acting work. I guess you might enjoy the half-hearted blog entries & articles about well-known professionals who definitely didn't land their big roles through Backstage, but I'd say save your money. What an embarrassment to the performing arts community. I appreciated hearing that there were email addresses for the party here in the United States. They asked me to send my video clip directly to a Russian email address. That worried me a bit, so I texted Backstage. The unfortunate part of the story is that it took 7 days for me to receive your answer. It was long past the due date/time. So, I had sent my video clip via their Backstage posting (even though she asked me to send it to Russia). In this case, the "History" clip had rather biased lines of text regarding the Russian Civil War that may have been perceived by a listener in Russia as offensive. It was definitely a one POV narrative... So, anyway, what with all the election fears of Russian intervention in our processes here, I felt that this could have been used as "Fake News" and negative press against USA in the news in Russia. ...call me paranoid, but I like to think everyone considers whose point of view (POV) is being presented, and consider that when you react.
