Lately I have found that the two ladies who work there are less than helpful or friendly. They act like you are bothering them. Also, Redoux always did free wrapping for you in a white bag with some tissue paper, nothing fancy. Now they charge 2.50 per gift. I totally understand that with the cost of supplies. I asked the lady with gray hair at the register if I could at least get the Redoux sticker to put on my own white gift bag and she told me it would be 2.50 for the small sticker. I explained I liked for the person to know that the store is wonderful so it might encourage them to shop there. I wasn't looking for a freebie but a way to advertise their business. Oh well, I will continue to shop there to support local, but the customer service could use some improvement.

Located inside of a rustic looking cypress cottage, the modern art adorning the walls may seem out of place. But that is just what makes this place so special. On the day I visited the art on display involved 50s and 60s advertisements made in to modern art. It was completely unexpected, but at the same time, completely cool. The man working the counter was very friendly and knowledgeable. He was also very welcoming despite the two kids I took with me who didn't appreciate the art as much as I did. Maybe one day I will get a gallery show here. Even if I don't I will be sure to keep visiting and check out the real artists that do make the cut to be displayed. If you find yourself in Bay St. Louis, make sure to add Smith and Lens to your list of places to visit.

Gallery 220 is my favorite art gallery…read more For those that know me, you know that the idea of me perusing an art gallery is quite humorous. I don't frequent traditional art galleries, but Gallery 220 is anything but traditional. It's unique, casual, reasonable and more of a shared space where many different artists can sell their creations. Inside the shop there are six or seven different areas. While all are cool, there are three that stand out to me. The first is immediately to your left when you walk in. That area has art created from metal and wood scraps that Is industrial looking while still having a homemade look to it. The best items there are their magnets with metal hearts affixed to wooden blocks. No two are alike and they are very reasonable. The next area I really like is along the left wall towards the rear of the front room. That area has art that focuses on local sea life. My favorite painting was one of a crab, but it was a little rich for my blood. Last, but most certainly not least is the area in the back room. There you'll find the custom ceramic artist that recreated the facades of local and New Orleans businesses and landmarks. There were famous Nola restaurants like Commanders Palace, all the local cities, and even that bullshit school Jesuit. These ceramic pieces were remarkably accurate and were very reasonable. If you are in downtown BSL, you owe it to yourself to stop here.

We spoke with her at length about her business and love for New Orleans and Bay St. Louis. She was personable and interesting and invited us to visit her shop the next day so we did. Imagine my surprise when one of the salesgirls knew who we were right away. Apparently Linda had told her we might be stopping in and to take care of us. Wow. That's spectacular customer service. As for the shop...imagine flowing, linen and thin soft cotton pieces similar to what you'd find at a beachy resort. All very upscale and classy pieces that will last a long time. While I wasn't in store to get anything of that nature I did buy a beautiful necklace that makes me smile every time I see it. Oh and guys, there's something here for you as well. In the middle of the shoes, jewelry and purses there's a room named the Man Cave complete with sports on the television and complimentary beer. So you've got no excuse not to tag along with your lady to this place at all. Perfect.

HOWEVER, I am sad to say I wont be shopping here ever again. I purchased 2 shirts and a pair of earrings for a trip I was leaving on the next day. The first shirt was 94.00 and I could buy a second for 50% off. I really wasnt interested but the sales lady talked me into it. The second shirt was going to be a gift but it did not fit. Upon returning from my trip (like 2 weeks later) I tried to return the second shirt and matching earrings and the sales lady would not take it back stating no returns or refunds on sale items. After she saw my surprise she said she would "do me a favor basically", and let me exchange it. I did not find anything that I wanted to exchange for. I asked for a gift card so I could come back in a month when they had some more of their fall clothes in and was told no...I could not exchange a sale item. Grrrr. Byer beware of their insanely strict policies. Ask or be certain before you buy. Guess you cant buy gifts for people here because i don't know if they would be able to return or exchange them. I could see if I had come back 30 days. I even HAD THE TAGS STILL ATTACHED, THE RECEIPT AND IN THEIR ORIGINAL BAG..... Terrible terrible store policies.
