LOVE this goofy rating .... especially since 5 stars is as good as it gets! This trip was the best ever and pretty much every day since returning we have revisited at least some part of the adventure and still give the whole shebang a 5 Star rating. Having just returned from the Baja Kayaking trip, I completely support the decision of Backwoods Adventures, she IS running a business therefore cut the crap and get real here.We talked about these people who made up there minds to not come along based upon the airlines giving their money back ? Kayaking in Baja with Backwoods IS " the Trip of a life time". THE FOOD was amazing and I am calling that due to the totally professional local crew. The camping was again such a great part of each day, really who gets to wake up to the sound of waves on a beach ? The Snorkeling wasn't going to be my favorite but then when I got to doing it ..... holy catfish every put in provided some sea life that surpassed the last - WE SAW TURTLES! Then there were the dolphins & sea lions, the whale shark and amazing bird life ....to enjoy . Hate to admit this review from persons who paid and then chickened out is simply a JOKE. The arrival in Loreto was simple and easy and the trip was better than good. The bunch of us held back sadness upon Tony's dropping us at the beach directly across the street form our hotel in La Paz. . Mexico is tricky but that's why you go with an outfitter, when your outfitter tells you everything is going to be fine, at some point you just have to leap and get with the program ! This trip was better than good...Just remember the best yet is simply around the next corner with Backwoods and they know it !!! read more

The trip wasn't cancelled! The hurricane blew through Cabo on September 14. The Cabo airport reopened under normal operations on October 8, and the kayak trip left La Paz as scheduled on November 1! La Paz experienced NO damage from the hurricane. I flew on US Air from Phoenix to Cabo on Oct 31st and the flight was packed full of happy travelers. The flight attendants said ever flight down was full. The airport still had some minor construction going on however you wouldn't know it unless you really looked for it. Renting a car isn't nessessary as there are other advertised means of transportation to La Paz. I took the Baja Tours shuttle from the Cabo airport to La Paz and a taxi to the hotel it couldn't have been easier! One main bridge near Cabo had been knocked out but a perfect surface road had been installed to take it's place. As for not receiving a refund for a trip that wasn't cancelled doesn't make sense to me. I don't know of any tour business that refunds a client because they decided not to go. I was thinking perhaps you should have had travel insurance but I know of any travel insurance that refunds a client because they decided not to go on a trip. These trips are planned out far in advance for the number of people who signed up. Captains and staff are pre-organized and paid, food is planned out, equipment is readied and so on. I have been on several trips with Backwoods Adventures and have always been amazed at how professional they are. This is a fine tuned business not to mention a ton of fun! read more

SECOND YEAR IN A ROW! I first rented a kayak from Backwoods Adventures in summer 2012 to paddle up the Payette River (so beautiful!). Having had such a great experience in Idaho, and having for many years wanted to visit the Sea of Cortez, I signed up for their coastal southern Baja kayak trip in 2013 and then, since I had such a fabulous time, went again in 2014. I absolutely loved the trip both times. This adventure is very well-organized, and expertly guided and outfitted. Staff are friendly, professional, completely knowledgeable and on top of all the details. This part is up to YOU: Enjoying the stunning scenery (can you say southern Utah-like red sandstone formations meet turquoise tropical seashore teaming with wildlife??); the physical joys of a day spent paddling; refueling with fabulous seafood and killer margaritas; snorkeling with a huge array of fish, eels, rays, turtles, sea lions; passing through huge pods of dolphins; picking your way down the beach without stepping on all the gorgeous shells or the ghost crab homes... in short, your job is to have the fun. I want to say what an amazing job Stephanie and her crew did. We had a large group of youth, many of these kids had never been on a kayak before and we wanted to show them our favorite place so that they could love kayaking for life. We knew that our group was large and would be a flotilla on the inlet so we picked a weekday, (Thursday morning) and asked Stephanie if we could possibly start early to get on and off the water as quickly as possible. She and her staff were amazing! When we arrived, they had all of the boats ready to go. We were able to drop kids in and get on the water in record time! We brought them back a little early and as soon as our kids were out of the boats, they were turning them around for the next customer. They made our morning magical and it was the highlight of our visit for the kids. A HUGE thank you to them for helping turn this into an adventure to remember! We just completed the Baja Coastal trip with Backwoods Adventures and had the time of our lives. I can only compare the fun we had with the same trip last year with Backwoods. Beautiful weather, fresh seafood prepared by local guides, professionally led snorkeling and kayaking by crew members thoroughly knowledgeable in the history and wildlife of this World Herotage Site. The equipment is new and state of the art, which adds greatly to the adventure. Logistics were trouble free, and the road from La Paz to Cabo San Lucas had no damage. Flights in and out were not delayed in any way we could see, and the airport had obviously taken some damage from the hurricane the previous month, but it seemed only cosmetic. Our tans are fading, but not our enthusiasm for any trip Backwoods Adventures puts together, and we highly recommend them as a safe and fun way to have a lifetime experience. read more

This is our go-to activity when we're in McCall. The water is calm and crystal clear and I love that you're not going to catch any wake from motorized boats on the river. For summer 2019 There is construction on Warren Wagon road, so they are located at North Beach, which is accessible by going around the other side of the lake via East Side road. It really doesn't take that much longer, and it is a beautiful drive. I actually preferred this location because we launched right into a little cove with a channel that led right to the river - at the other location you have to paddle out into the lake to reach the inlet. The lake can sometimes get a bit choppy and might not be too fun if you're not comfortable with canoeing/kayaking. read more

Loved our experience with Backwoods Adventures last week! This was my first experience renting Kayaks, and I was impressed with how quickly they got our large group on and off the water and also with how accommodating they were to our large group. I appreciate their willingness to do something different--opening earlier and allowing us to reserve--for this special occasion for us. That speaks highly of them and their customer service. We had a wonderful time with the kayaks last week. The people were very friendly and easy to work with. They are an extremely popular attraction at this time of year so plan on arriving early or plan some fun activities at the beach if you need to wait for an available kayak. It appeared to be a steady stream of people coming and going so it didn't look like it would ever be a long wait. I appreciate their smiling faces and happy demeanor and will definitely be back. read more
