We had a party of 3. Half way up the hill l began having issues with my snowmobile stalling. We had no reception. So we kept going with it stalling out every so often. It gradually got worse. We made it to the turn off to Bergdorf, which is approximately 19.3 miles up the mountain. Still no reception. Being unfamiliar with the area & running out of time & daylight we decided not to risk going the extra 2 miles to reach the hot springs & just headed back down the mountain. Long story short, it took us another 2hrs to get back down the mountain as my snowmobile got so bad with the stalling it would die approximately every 75-100 yards where I would need to shut it off and wait a few minutes before starting up & gassing it another 75-100yrds before it would stall again, the rest of the way down. Once back at the gear shop in town we spoke with one of the owners Rachel who proceeded to make it out to be all our fault for not telling them sooner & giving them a chance to switch out our machine. Well, we had no reception so how exactly were we supposed to do that? I understand these things happen, I get that. But the issue l have is she not only went out of her way to make us feel like it was all our fault, she NEVER ONCE even said sorry that we had a such a lousy first time experience! She begrudgingly offered only half of one snowmobile rental when the issue with the one effected our entire party which was my wife & daughter visiting from California who had never been in the snow or on a snowmobile. In the end this wasn't even about the refund. It was about the owner Rachel's lack of interest in the customers experience and steadfast desire to obsolve herself of any accountability and place the blame entirely on the customer. I didn't appreciate the attitude of the owner lady toward me and my sister. For the amount of money we were paying to rent their gear, I expected better customer service. Her side comments were neither appreciated nor funny--if she was trying to joke, it didn't come across that way. At one point, she even said, "I'm surprised that the girls didn't crash today," referring to us. After reading other reviews, it seems like she has a pattern of being unfriendly toward women. My family and I had a great experience with cheap thrills. The whole team was super helpful friendly and knowledgeable. They thought of so many details to help make your whole experience great! The even had little tiny baggies for my earrings so I wouldn't loose them and they gave us extra defogger wipes for the road. The guys that demonstrated how to use the snowmobiles were great too! Showed us how to use the equipment and how to change a belt if needed. My husband left his baseball cap behind and the team at cheap thrills found his hat and returned it the next day! The snowmobiles were very nice and ran smoothly with no problems! Aaron and the gang were awesome!!! They got us educated and so we all felt super confident even though none of us had used snowmobiles before. Rented a 19' run about boat. The boat was ready at the dock at the time it was supposed to be. It was clean and all the equipment was ready to go. I would have gave this place 0 stars if I could, please fire the employees that are ruining your business. Reserved a jet ski online, was given the jet ski however the girl who gave it to us did not inspect the jet ski at all before handing it to us. The jet ski was filled with water which caused it to be leaning right the entire time. We only found out that something was wrong with the jet ski after it tipped for 5 times and throwing us all in the middle of the lake. We sought for rescue with nearby tourist, but the guy from cheap thrill rentals that came to help us was also reluctant to help, he demanded that we try getting on the jet ski another time after I told him that it will tip over for sure (and of course it tipped over again). After then, he gave up and took one of my friends back to the shore and left us in the middle of the lake with the broken jet ski. I slowly moved us towards the shore so we won't tip. After reflecting the jet ski imbalance issue to an older guy, he apologized and told us the jet ski was filled with water and assigned us another jet ski; he also gave us an additional 30 mins of time (the only nice employee there). The girl in the beginning came to check us out at 6, but after telling her we have 30 minutes extra because of the bad jet ski in the beginning, she just laughed and said ok. This was extremely rude, the first thing she should have done was apologize. However, she had an attitude and did not apologize at all. Her actions put my friends and I in extreme danger due to her lack of safety inspection. By the way, just rent from mile high marina instead, their employee is always smiley and makes sure you have proper equipments. read more

'Cheap thrills' will get you a thrill alright! My sister's first snowmobiling accident ended in being life flighted. She decided to get back on the snowmobile saddle and rented a snowmobile from cheap thrills for the Burgdorf trail. On the way back, her snowmobile was acting up, and then flames started to gust out of the left of the hood, by her feet. Thankfully she moved her foot before her leg caught fire, and reacted quickly by hitting the kill switch. She and her daughter leaped off the machine. They tried kicking snow to lessen the flames, but it was pointless. The machine roared into quickly. This was traumatic to say the least, being her second time with a major snowmobile defect. When returning to the cheap thrills rental office, the first thing out of the owners mouth was "you must have left the parking break on." When it should have been "are you ok?!" Or "I'm so sorry this happened to you!" However, instead of ensuring she was ok, this owner was adamant about how it could be my sister's fault. My sister confirmed that she didn't put the emergency break on.  We offered to show her the video of the machine to prove the fire was in the wrong side to have been a parking break issue. The owner said she didn't want to see the video, as she was confident this was my sister's fault. She said she'd have her mechanic take a look at it to confirm the damage and threatened we'd have to replace her snowmobile. We went home and did our own research to learn about gas fire recalls, for the same brand of the one that caught on fire. This was a known issue with this machine.  We returned the day and asked for the serial number of the machine to do our own investigation. The lady-owner said she wasn't sure which machine it was to know what model it was. We informed her of this known issue and then she contradicted herself and said "oh, well there's not one on that machine." She continued to accuse my sister of leaving the parking break on, saying she had a mechanic look at it already. We decided to do our own research, by going back to the place of fire, hoping the machine would still be there so we could get the number/model ourselves. At the machine, the husband/co-owner was there and it was obvious this was the first time anyone was taking a look at it (so the other owner lied when she said she had a mechanic look at it). Thankfully, the husband was there, and he was more open minded to the facts over trying to accuse my sister of this fire. He must have made a call to his wife after our visit with him, because when returning to the store the wife had the refund ready for my sister. There was no apology though, and in trying to get some accountability from her, she then denied ever accusing my sister of the sort and said she merely said it was a possibility. We have it all recorded, and we might post the evidence; however, for now, I feel it's important to tell you: before considering cheap thrills, do your research prior to ever getting on one of their machines! They were unaware of any recalls for the machine model they had, and they were adamant about putting blame on us without any interest on the facts. If anything, do your own research if they try to blame you for their machines being faulty. And be prepared for flames , because this really happened! Keep your loved ones safe!  My sister had her daughter on the back, and we are thankful they are both ok!! read more

We were first time riders and very disappointed that the company didn't explain what it meant when they said the groomer was broken. The trail was so rough we drove 15 mph or less 75% of time. People on the trail told us it was the roughest they have every seen. It was so rough, it broke the blade on the other groomer. What was supposed to be 45 minute trip took us over an hour and 45 minute. No offer from company and no apologies just "sometimes it's like that..." Website is misleading and not very clear about having a separate reservation for the hot springs, so extremely disappointed to learn that we would not be able to enjoy the springs... read more

We had an awesome and exciting time renting a jet ski from Cheap Thrills. We went with them because the other business didn't have a 3 seater and Cheap Thrills was well, cheaper! Although we misunderstood the arrival time, the staff called us to tell us we were late for pickup. When we arrived at the office, they were forgiving and quickly got us signed up, geared up, and gave us a quick video orientation before sending us off to meet with the staff at the dock near Mile High. The staff gave us a great overview, a map of the lake and were also happy to answer our questions. The jet ski was in great working order and we didn't encounter any problems while using it for the day. They even offered us a tube for additional water fun. Make sure to check them out because they have a lot of water toys for rent, but book early! read more

Was in in town for a couple of hours we rented a 21 ft boat to go into the Payette Lake we arrived at 3pm and they are the only ones that had a two hour rental other would do half day or full day but the price was much higher. I just rented 3 snow machines for 4 adults and 2 teenage kids yesterday. I can't say enough about how nice the staff was e mad our da great! We pick up the equipment at the store front and the lady couldn't have been any nicer. She helped each one of get the right boots, snow suits, gloves, helmets and even neck warmers. We went in with our own snow gear and we was pretty admit about using their gear. I'm so glad we listened. The suits kept everyone ver warm. The boots are better than what we had but our toes still got cold but tolerable. The helmets fit great and we're very comfortable. I would recommend getting one of their neck gator to help keep your neck and face warm. The gloves were good but I don't think there's a glove out there that will keep your hands warm. After a 15 minute safety briefing they point you towards the trail and off you go. The snow machines were awesome and get up to 50-55mph. There are stickers and verbal warnings telling you to stay on the groomed trails. I really really suggest you follow this warning especially if you've never ridden a snow machine before. We took a short lived detour where other snow machines had been and quickly got stuck. When we returned they looked over the machines for any damage and we returned the gear to the storefront. Once again, the super nice lady said to just drop everything on the floor and we were all done. Everyone was nice and polite and very helpful. I would only use them again for any rental. read more

Rented a get around boat for a full day, we decided because of the cold temperatures to pick it up at 11 instead, was told we still had to bring it back at 4p as that was our rental period. Understood. Get on the boat, pretty old and upholstery is worn faded, carpet torn, push off the dock and the boat gets stuck in neutral, after 5 minutes of attempts I finally get it unstuck, worked well the rest of the afternoon. We didn't ride hard as we had a 3 and 6 year old with us but came back to the dock and the fuel cap was missing, it could have come off during our rental period but my guess is that the teenage crew working the umbrella stand at the Marina that filled it didn't secure it well or just forgot it (chain was broken) We were charged. Our $500 rental turned into a $775 rental for 5 hours with that charge and all the extra fees. They nickel and dime you here with fees for a sub par boat. Rented from Mile High the next day and had a much better experience. No response from Cheap Thrills to talk about the experience so posting here read more

My brother, who is an experienced snow machine rider came down from Alaska and had planned to rent snow machines for our family from cheap thrills. When he walked in the door at cheap thrills he smiled and said hello. The woman at the counter barely said hello and was very short with him. She told him they were booked and there's no chance he would get to ride. He asked if there was anyone else in the area he could rent from and the woman just said,"yeah" and that was it. He had to pry it out of her to get the name and they wouldn't give the location. Don't go here if you want good friendly customer service and assistance. They don't really care about helping people out or ensuring they are happy. Heck they don't even seem happy themselves. My brother ended up going to Back country rentals. They were awesome! Super friendly. Incredibly accommodating and they made our whole family really excited to ride. They hooked us up with snowmachines, all our gear, a good map of the area and wonderful riding suggestions for the Type of riding we want to do. Good equipment, great staff on the beach very poor customer service at the store. Rented a ski boat for a day on the lake and was VERY disappointed with the lack of customer service at the office of Cheap Thrills. The women at the store were very terse and argumentative when I asked about rescheduling due to a thunderstorm;(which they refused to do) particularly the older woman (manager?) who later accused me of lying about waiting on their staff after they forgot about meeting me to refuel a boat for nearly an hour. All of their people who work at the beach were great. They gave me good information and seemed genuinely pleased to have our business. They knew the lake well and they were always visible and available for questions at the launch area. I've been on three family trips this year an have dealt with dozens of people for accommodations, renting RVs and wave runners,meal reservations etc., and this office group a Cheap Thrills have the worst customer service I've experienced - by far. We had a family reunion in McCall and had a number of families in town, everyone had great experiences with the businesses and condos there, except Cheap Thrills. Next year I'll spend an extra $15 and rent from the marina, they got great reviews from others in our reunion. read more

We have rented from Cheap Thrills as a group for the past seven years and this has been the worst experience, we will not return. The new owner lacks customer service and integrity. Three jet skis for a one day rental, one no longer had oil and the amount of fuel to refuel was ridiculous; these machines are old and need to be cycled out of service. We approached staff with these issues, the owner eluded we were at fault, blamed their young adult employee for giving us the wrong information but than followed up with a comment that they will credit the rental account for loss time with the one jet ski BUT the next day changed their mind, gave a lesser credit to the rental account and said we should check the oil - we are now at fault. NO renter should check the oil to any machine rental, do I check the car I rented for oil before I drive off? No! To the owner, I highly recommend you work on integrity and customer service, stop blaming the customers for the business you purchased with machines that need to be replaced. Fun time with friends Presidents' Day weekend! Part that I was disappointed about was to pay $480 for snowmobile rental an the reverse didn't work. For a heavy 2 seater probably wouldn't of been a problem if I was treated better. The guys checking out/in the sleds were awesome an told me to speak to ladies in the office about it not being full functional. But that was the experience that ruined the weekend! I was basically shrugged off with no apology or anything An Peggy said oh well it's only reverse! That was the second time brought up during gear check in! That pretty much set the weekend for me! I have rented snowmobiles from Cheap Thrills three times over the last few years and each experience has been better than the last. Mrs. Peggy always allows us to pick up our gear the day prior so we can maximize our time on the trails the following day. Her husband, Chuck, always meets us promptly at our show time at the trail head for a detailed run-through of safe operation of the machines. From basic driving tips to worst-case "get me home" emergency maintenance he always takes the the time to answer our questions and ensure we have a worry free day. As for the machines themselves, they have always been new Ski-doo 600's (or higher, if you so desire) that have worked flawlessly and provide you with piece of mind as you venture further into the wonderful Idaho backcountry. They have two seaters and "cruisers" available as well. Electric start and heated handle bars are standard on all 4 cycle machines (which can run for 200 miles on the provided tank of gas so you don't have to worry about filling up during the day). The 2 stroke machines have quite a bit more power in them and shine if you want to take them off trail into the fresh powder. Most of these models have pull start but they are extremely easy to get started, they also come with heated handle bars. They don't go as far on the one tank of gas (80ish miles) but there are a few places to fill up with gas if you need to. I would recommend Secesh, which is a great little town that is only accessible by snow machines in the winter. They have a cool bar with great food. We always seem to get there right at lunch so we don't mind spending time there getting full! There is also a meadow behind the clubhouse where you can ride around freely without fear of hitting a tree, which I managed to do on the main trail (see below) Several years ago I had an accident (complete user error, my fault) and damaged one of their machines. Not only did Chuck and Peggy work with my insurance company to resolve the issue, they gave me a replacement machine so I could enjoy the rest of the day with my group. Not sure if this is standard ops, but Chuck went above and beyond for me, and for that I will always return to Cheap Thrills for my McCall vacations. Ok, this is the best experience in this area. Love Chuck and his wife. The second time we have rented from them with a group of 9 or more. They are so helpful and you do not need anything to ride a snowmobile, they provide everything. Snow suits, helmets, gloves and boots. The equipment is all top of the line. I have been around snowmobiles my whole life and shocked how great everything was. We went to Burgdorf Hot Springs, a must do. Then we went to Warren for lunch. Best meal we have had on our trip.
