My daughter and son-in-law needed a new barbecue for the Thanksgiving holiday, but considering it was the Saturday before, I suggested they visit Jim at Backyard Expressions, since I have known him for many years....AND there is absolutely no one in OC more knowledgeable about barbecues (and patio) than Jim Montgomery and his staff! Bottom line: they purchased a terrific barbecue and although it was not in stock, Jim arranged with his vendor to get it on his Monday delivery, and over to their house on Monday afternoon. We wanted a modern insert for our newly remodeled fireplace. We decided to go with fireballs and Backyard Expressions offered competitive prices and fast delivery. Unfortunately we immediately had quality issues with this particular brand of the fireballs. Although the manufacturer refused to warranty the items, the owner of Backyard Expressions, acknowledged the problem and offered a solution. In a time when customer service is rarely found, Angela's assistance was very much appreciated. We now have the Peterson Fire Balls and couldn't be happier. We have an older home here in HB with an old original fireplace. It has a gas pipe & had old lava rocks on a grate. We tried using it a few times but it smelled old, musty & smoked up the wall. We moved from back East where we had a big, beautiful wood burning fireplace. I shopped online & in stores until I found the perfect place. Backyard Experience had a wonderful selection of logs & custom doors, plus good advice. Everyone there has been a delight to work with, knowledgeable, helpful, attentive & professional. When I got there, I saw they had a large selection and it was a bit overwhelming but their sales representative, David, was amazing and helped me to narrow down my choices to just a few pieces. If you're looking for high quality outdoor furniture, this is the place to go. This is a family owned/ran business and they are so knowledgeable and helpful. We had a TON of questions and pretty much sat on everything in the store. We settled on the OW Lee chairs because I don't think I've ever sat in chairs that comfortable...inside or outside. Tom was our salesman and he was great. Tom was even there for delivery, along with Chance. He even helped us with some ideas for the backyard when he was here. I've been coming here for years and have always had a great experience. I have bought patio furniture, a high-end BBQ, parts and used them to convert my fireplace to gas. Although the products are not inexpensive, they are high quality and worth the money. They also have a great selection. I recently needed new slings for a patio rocker I bought 15 years ago and since I had purchased so much stuff from them they gave me a discount on the installation. I brought the rocker in a few weeks later when the sling arrived and the bolts were so rusted they had to send it out rather than do it in-house, which I am sure cost them more money than what they charged me, but they did not raise my price. Since it took a little longer than expected due to the circumstances they delivered the repaired rocker back to my house at no cost. The end product looked brand new. I wish I had paid them to install the slings on my other chairs rather than doing it myself. read more

Tom at Backyard Expressions was fabulous! He helped us find beautiful patio furniture & a fire pit for our new home. We weren't sure if the collection we liked best would fit our space, so he & his delivery man brought the pieces out to try (with no obligation!) It was great, we were able to see how it all fit & how the colors looked with our pavers & exterior paint. That is outstanding service that we really appreciated! Furthermore, the dining table side chairs were backordered & Tom found out that they wouldn't be available when I had hoped for. He knew we were having guests on Easter so he delivered our pieces that were in, and then without us asking, lent us 6 more chairs so we could use the set on Sunday. You wouldn't get that service from a big box store! Backyard Expressions is a family business which we always prefer to use. I reached out to Backyard Expressions when I found them in a search I was doing for my Executive. I had called a number of other places, and after the sharp tongue, quick to interrupt, and well, rude people on the other end of the line, I said, OK, I will try one more place. I am SOOOOO glad I did, because Stephen picked up, and what a delight and game changer that call became! Like for real, what a delight. Super knowledge, extremely professional, very courteous, went above and beyond, and did it all with such a positive, peppy, and let me serve you attitude. My executive ended up buying an umbrella and base from them and it's top notch, the Cadillac of umbrellas I call it. But wait, there is more. My executive has been in the market for an outdoor heater. He had been working another company for some time, but everything was just dragging and lingering. So I said, "Hey! Let's call Stephen!" It really did go just like that. I called Stephen, asked him if he had what we were looking for, and boy did he! Now, I must add, my executive went in the store in person to get more information and details about this heater and components. He could not remember Stephen's name, and unfortunately was met with a sales person that really was of not much use and wasted my executive's time. Stephen was with a customer and not able to catch my executive before he left, and was aware of the poor service, and contacted me right away about the interaction. Monday morning came and my executive told me he could not remember Stephens name and someone else helped him, and my executive's words were, "it was a waste of my time, and useless to me." (Now, if I was writing this review on that guy and that experience, this store would be getting a 1 star.) I got to tell him that Stephen had reached out to me and told me he figured as much, and that made my executive very pleased. I picked up my phone and we called Stephen right away. It was through that lead to another sale with Stephen, the heater. Stephen is top notch and set apart from regular, typical sales people who I dread working with and interacting with, because there's no life, no zeal, and just blah. Stephen cares about the customer experience, the customer relations, and the customer service. He cares about the business he represents. Stephen is not the owner, but I promise you, if you go in and see Stephen and work with him, you'll think he is! We will keep going back so long as Stephen is there. read more

Mom and I were searching for barstool covers for our outdoor teak furniture and we just happened to call and talk to Sarah M. who by the way is extremely helpful and full of information. First of all they have them in stock and she was able to put them aside and said her parents (the owners) would take care of us when we walked in. We went in and the store is huge with so much selection and options and we were greeted by the owners Jim and Joanne, lovely and friendly couple who took care of us and gave us tips on our furniture. These guys are a joke. Especially the owner jim. I purchased a weber grill from them about 4 months ago. They assembled the grill at their location. When i got the grill home i noticed that there was a problem with the lid. The back of the lid was hitting part of the lower unit. It caused a metal to metal screaching sound and damaged the finish on the back. They did send a rep to my house (twice) to asses the problem. On the second trip they even brought a new lid to replace the original one but that did not resolve the problem. Did i mention that they assembled the grill at their location and was no doubt aware of the problem prior to my purchase. However they still sold me that unit. Im sure they dont want a fucked up grill in their inventory. At that point jim notified me that i have to deal with weber on my own. WHAT CUSTOMER SERVICE! A friend had a similar experience with them previously and got the same response. NO HELP! I spent approximately $ 4000 at their location last year but they dont seem to care about that. I WILL NOT SPEND ANOTHER PENNY AT THIS STORE. I WILL TELL ALL I KNOW TO ALSO STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. They are a high volume dealer so im sure there are plenty of others that get the shaft . Go to home depot or lowes or swap meet to purchase your backyard items and save yourself a headache. Too bad i cant give them a zero star rating. What a joke this place is. With lack of customer service like this they should be out of business soon. I hope. read more

James is a personable and genuine guy with a sense of humor. My wife and I got along with him instantly...and he made our search for the right patio furniture very easy. Besides the customer service, I think what won us over was the quality of their fabrics (Sunbrella). They are impervious to stain, liquid and even bleach! When we buy something, we want something that will last in outdoor/accidental conditions. To top it off...Shawn (the delivery guy) was very polite and made our experience stress free. Was almost closing time and with the help of four employees they put the natural gas converter on the fire pit and loaded in my truck. Then were very careful to wrap it and tie it down.
