Tucked away into a warehouse district, Bad Axe Throwing is bringing a bit of culture from our neighbors in the north with this activity. Firstly, it's BYOB and BYOF (not sure if that's a thing but F stands for Food). We were here to celebrate a birthday party, so beer and pizza were plentiful. When you walk in to the building you will see a few lanes set against a wall, then when you wrap around that wall you will find about six more lanes. You are required to complete an electronic waiver prior to throwing and the lanes are caged off for safety as well. Once your group is set an instructor will come demonstrate proper form and set up a game for you all. We played first to 50 without going over and had plenty of time based on our reservation. They let you play your own music, which adds to the experience. For those who find their newfound calling, there is a WATL World Axe Throwing League that meets weekly and ranks players accordingly. Overall, great place for a company party or birthday party. No frills or thrills to this place and it is not cheap, but on the flip side it is not something most people have done before. I had booked this reservation to take a corporate customer axe throwing. We never even made it through the door to do axe throwing with Bad Axe Atlanta because they allowed someone else to change a reservation that was in my name. I had booked a reservation online for later in the evening. When I called after our dinner was complete to see if we could move it up one hour, I found out that they had allowed someone with a different name and different phone number to completely change my reservation. I spent nearly an hour on the phone with a call center trying to tell the agent that I DID NOT call previously and change the reservation and in fact had no idea who the person was they were saying did change it and did not recognize the phone number. He would not allow me to talk to a manager and basically suggested I was lying. They were unable to get our reservation back and I am still waiting for a credit for the deposit I paid on the card. I was told it required investigation. In the meantime my customer was expecting to axe throwing and we did not. I would strongly recommend choosing a different axe throwing location in the Atlanta area. Bad Axe customer service is terrible. read more

I had some hesitation about throwing an axe in general and this place eased some of that fear for me. They walk you threw how to properly throw and axe and safety precautions before you actually throw. It's a little loud but that's to be expected and they let you bring beer,etc to drink while throwing. It's a fun date or group outing. read more

This was my second time at Bad Axe Throwing Atlanta and I had my family in tow. We spent this past Friday as a family doing something different and fun. My daughter now wants her 21st birthday here. Especially now that she knows they are in the process of getting their liquor license. We were able to play games and mix up the teams which was fun family and team building. This was such a fun time! I went to Bad Axe with coworkers as a team-building exercise. I was nervous to try it, but once Christian broke down the method of properly throwing an axe, I was able to hit the center of the bullseye several times. I love that the atmosphere is relaxed, and there is seating so that you can chill and chat when you want to take a break from throwing. We had a ton of fun here..brought my 3 college aged sons and their girlfriends. Christian was a fantastic coach and helped make our experience here even better. We got here a few minutes early before the walk in time opened up so we were sure to get a lane. It was busy but we went on a weekend night so we knew it probably would be. It took us a little bit to get the hang of it and the guys finally realized they did not have to chunk it as hard as they could and it was more about finesse and form. Their email replies say they have sent them then when I call they tell me they will send them by the next morning. Came by on a whim with a couple of friends during the week. Did not regret it one bit. We were happily greeted by David who helped us sign our waivers and taught us how to throw the axe properly. Haha yeah the money goes to create a "safe environment "... located next to a strip club, vagabonds looking in car windows, no parking attendant, all hatchets with rubber handles were split, most axe heads were so dull they bounced 5 feet back even if hit boards flush or on corner of blade. Group of 7 beside us last time were throwing 3 axes at a time, against rules - one of whom was a "coach", same group was using a double headed full size axe (also against rules), "coach" insisted on running in front of us during swings to give tips to the hot chick, Both coaches blazing during shift, insisted on interrupting our games to show us trick shots they could do over and over (which we said over and over we just wanted to throw them ourselves) therefore using up our hour nearly as much as we did (happened 2 of the times we went) Ben drinking, etc. so you're either being disingenuous or just naive. My personal opinion- even if the coaches and facilities were super safe, and the coaches were super great teachers and ensuring safety of the groups, and you had a good liability insurance coverage on accidents, it's still just too high. There's no way you're paying those coaches $40 an hour or so that would justify the rates (which is really shown by how much they beg for tips he entire hour you're there) , or that your liability insurance is more than a gun range. There are several gun ranges in ATL area you can rent a gun, shoot for an hour next to several other people shooting for less an hour than you're charging to throw a hatchet. I agree the throwing part is genuinely safe (no thanks to employees, coaching, or condition of equipment/boards, or enforcement of rules posted online) but I just don't agree that your supposition that the money is going to "safety" is at all true. read more

Took a small group of 12-year-olds for my son's birthday and we had a great time! Coach Evan showed the kids how to throw and put them at ease. I thought 2 1/2 to 3 hours sounded like a long time before we went, but at the end of our time nobody wanted to leave - the kids begged for "just a few more!" throws. Cool wall art, music playing, we brought in pizza and cake. Absolutely would do this for a tween's or teen's birthday party again, or for the grown-ups on a Saturday night. read more
