    Bullseye!
    Melissa M.

This was such a fun date night. Easy enough for a beginner to pick up right away. You'll have a coach to help you land the axe and show you different throwing techniques. I found the two handed throw to be easier than the one hand technique. There's a waiting area and ping pong if you come for a walk-in and need to wait until a lane opens up. The waiting area has a bar with a few beer/cider/wine selections and some snacky foods available for purchase. Parking was really easy, nice sized lot. Would highly recommend for a date night, group outing, birthday, or work event. 45 minutes is $29 a person and they offer different rates for groups.

We hosted a birthday celebration at Bad Axe last weekend and it was super fun for everyone in our group from age 15 to 70!! Kevin was our coach/host and he was awesome from the minute we walked thru the doors. You have to do an electronic waiver as part of check-in, and they offer beverages including beer and wine and cocktails. I admit I was pretty nervous about the safety aspect, but Kevin explained the rules very clearly which was great, and once we were there we didn't have any scares or nervousness for our entire 90 minutes. Kevin was entertaining and funny (ah, the puns!), but he also has this uncanny ability to tell you how to adjust your throws so you can get better and better. It's like he has slow motion replay in his recall and he can tell you how to adjust your footing or your elbow or your distance - this was really helpful for our beginner group. He also setup a fun competition (we did older peeps versus kids) and kept score and cheered and it was a blast. We also opted to try knife throwing for the last 30 minutes which was totally different but still fun. I think next time if everyone is inexperienced I'd do axe throwing the whole time so we could have focused on our skills and technique. We found easy and cheap parking nearby on the weekend, but I think they might even validate at the City Center ramp (but you should ask to be sure). Highly recommend this especially if you have never tried it. I definitely did not expect to have as much fun as we did, and we already are planning to go back for sure!

    Lanes for axe throwing!

I've been axe throwing at a few different places now, and it's always fun! Bad axe also has a big parking lot that's free and you can bring in outside food (but not drinks), so it's a great way to spend an evening with friends!! It was $27 per person per hour which is a bit pricier than I've paid elsewhere ($17 in Duluth was the best price), but the bar prices are pretty reasonable! It's also nice that each "bay" is two lanes/targets so that you can throw at the same time as someone else in your group and "compete". However, the axes and their grips weren't the best quality compared to a few other places I've gone, but I'm also not a good enough axe thrower for it to really matter! The biggest spots for improvement are noise and spacing. Now I'm aware the core of Bad Axe is throwing axes in a warehouse which is inherently loud, but when I visited they were replacing the targets in every other "lane" on a Friday night, and the drills going constantly 15 feet away was super loud while receiving instructions and talking with friends. It would be hard to do a birthday party or corporate event because of that. The spacing of lanes is also precarious. There are a lanes back to back as well as near the bar, so leaving or going to the bar requires a lot of attentiveness and other throwers pausing to let you through. Once you get warmed up with your axe throwing, I would totally recommend some of the games they recommend on their website. We played Humans and Zombies and it was great!

Bad axe was so much fun! We did a walk in and we got in quickly on a weekday evening. Our coach was very fun and good at her job, unfortunately I cannot remember her name! Highly recommend this place for a fun date night or a different night out with friends.

I had never been axe throwing until my visit at Bad Axe. The staff does a great job teaching prior to any sharp objects being thrown. They also are there to help you throughout your throwing time. We booked 45 minutes and it was just even time to start developing a technique. I found some good beginner luck! Fun activity for those looking to try a new experience

They have this awesome photo op spot!

We went here for my now husbands birthday and it was honestly SO FUN. we brought our own food in which was super nice we could do that. We got drinks and overall had a great time. Our axe expert was attentive but not over bearing and I really appreciated the vibes of the establishment. Would definitely recommend for a small group gathering. Parking at this establishment was also incredibly seamless and easy with a full lot in northeast!

Want to embrace your MN lumberjack roots? Want a little workout? Want a small element of danger, with your friends? Then an afternoon/evening of axe throwing may be just what you and your friends need. The place is not really anything special to look at, and it is not necessarily the easiest place to find in NE. One thing should be noted is at the time they were still building out the bar area. If you wanted you could bring in your own food (no alcohol though). I would also recommend that you reserve your time slot online. This will assure you that you will get an instructor/coach in a timely manner. Once you get your stall assigned to you an instructor will teach you how to throw an axe (either two-handed or one-handed). He will also review the rules for safety, and then teach a few games to play as you progress through your reserved space-time. This is a great place to hang out, throw some sharp objects and take your aggression out on a target. There is also a taproom nearby to unwind at afterward. Certainly worth a try.

Went here with a family group for axe throwing. I've done it before, and I had to compete with a retired firefighter who I'm sure has been trained on axe throwing, or at least using an axe as a job skill. It was a great time. Instructor Mike (not his real name) did a great job of coaching folks on the fine details of axe throwing. They have two sizes of axe so that you can select the size that matches your style. I suppose 10 years from now it will be like the bowling alley with shoes and ten different sizes of axes, but for now it's a charming activity that can theoretical split your head open. Have fun!

Wow!! So much fun! It was super intimidating stepping in a group and not knowing how to do anything about axe throwing. But our lead, Blake (shout out to all the staff too!) was fun, patient, and incredible helpful. He was the best to handle our crew and made axe throwing an art. There was no sense of shame or embarrassment, just massive amounts of fun! I can't wait to return and spread the word! Definitely would recommend!

Been wanting to try axe throwing for a while. It sure beats bowling. Great way to spend and evening. I took my date axe throwing I thought I would surprise her and not tell her before hand. Possibly a hilarious mistake as she was dressed to impress in a black dress and stiletto heals yet she was more than game as she hit bullseye after bullseye even double axed throwing hitting bullseyes and making me look bad as she killed in in 5 inch heels. Our host/instructor had a fun sense of humor as well and provided us with some entertainment with an axe load of axe puns.

This was my first axe throwing experience and it was amazing! My friend and I walked in and didn't know what to expect, but the staff were super friendly and kind. We filled out our waivers and were promptly given our safety demonstration, as well as the proper throwing techniques. My friend and I weren't quite sure what to expect, but as we kept going, we found the process extremely therapeutic! It was also a bit of a workout, as we were both sweating within 10 minutes. It also takes some time to get used to the motion, so don't give up right away. I found myself getting used to two-handed throws and then was absolute trash at one-handed (although this changed within 30 minutes). We saw folx bringing in adult beverages and food, which the staff were okay with (we assume if anyone was possibly causing harm that they would act accordingly). They offer several walk-in options at $20 per hour, plus tax. There is also a spacious parking lot, so need to fret about that.
