While this wasn't a formal stop, it was right next door to a place we had just sampled. Since there was a slight lull in our tour, I decided to take advantage and stop here for a little coffee and treat. CGM sits on a corner, and like many coffee shops, is not large. There's a small amount of seating on one end with the display case and ordering counter on the other. Decor is somewhat generic - there's not much to see outside of the bakes on display. They had a really good selection of Italian pastries, though I was really looking for a cannoli so I ordered two and a coffee. The cannoli were excellent, I was actually taken aback by how good they were. They were filled to order so the shell was nice and crispy, and the cream had ricotta which really came through. One of the best cannoli I've had in a minute. The coffee was good as well - nice and strong. Service was good, the man behind the counter was very charismatic. Overall, Caffè Grazie Mille took my by surprise in a good way - definitely a place I would return to next time I'm in Montreal.

The focal point of the bakery is of course, the counter. There is a paper ticket system for service on busier days. When I went in, it was quiet so ticket optional. I went for the seasonal maple roll dusted with icing sugar, topped with white chocolate chips and a maple crust. Also took a slice of pear almond tart. They were both $4.50 each. The maple roll was densely packed and so much more than a snack. It's really bready so you could have it for breakfast. Slightly sweet and covered in a light glaze. The tart was light tasting and the pastry was full of buttery goodness. Texture is a little bit interesting because it's a cold tart, the juice from the pears soak into the almond paste and make it a little bit cold and slightly mushy. Some people might not like that but I found it ok. Service is friendly and attentive. Pastries are good but a bit expensive.
