I usually opt for the pad thai w/ tofu which is always good. Sometimes I think the noodles are too clumped and the sauce isn't as mixed in as it could be, but still has great flavors. The pad see ew is great and I just tried the yellow curry based on some other reviews, and it was phenomenal! My bf is obsessed with the crab rangoons from here. I rarely say this but there were too many leafy herbs and it detracted from the flavor for me. I stand by their red curry and could eat theirs every day. This place is super cute and yummy! It's a casual spot with walk-in ordering in North Park. We stopped by early (5pm) on a Saturday night to order at the counter and were told it would be ~15 min wait. The food came out in 15 mins and we were able to snag one of the tables (there are only a few unfortunately) outside the place, but there's fast turnaround. I did notice a lot of people had already ordered ahead. In terms of the food, it was all super tasty and reasonably priced. We got: Pad thai - super flavorful though a bit on the sweeter side but nice and nutty with peanuts too. Pad see ew - my personal favorite with plenty of greens and chicken to accompany the noodles Mango sticky rice - only seasonal, and I was excited they had it today. Cheap, tasty Thai. This hole in the wall must do tons of business because they literally have 3 registers inside their humble interior for taking orders. We walked up to see a dozen people waiting outside for their numbers to be called - always a good sign. They've got staple Thai dishes and everything we got was executed well. Massaman curry - rich, deep and creamy peanut curry with tender chicken and potatoes. Simple, but feels like the sauce has been cooking the entire day. Hard to find a satisfying massaman and this one hits it out the park. Crab fried rice - amply sized with tons of crab. We ordered medium spice but man did this have a kick in comparison to the curry which was the same spice level. Calamari - super crisp, even for it being pack away in a non breathable plastic container. If you want to "dine in" there's a couple tables outside you can camp out on as diners finish up their meals. We walked down the street to the liquor store to grab water. Trying this for the first time because we've heard great things about it! We ordered the Pad Thai Noodle with Chicken and a Mild Spice level. It had a really nice taste that was kind of sweet and the lime slice they provided also added a good flavor. I think next time I will opt for a medium spice level! Inside is fairly small but they have seating outside. Parking will be on the street. The Thai Iced Tea was just your regular standard Thai Tea, but nevertheless good! Forever the best Thai place in San Diego. The food is always consistency delicious. It's my go to when feeding family in town or having friends over. Recently my favorites have been the larb salad with tofu or chicken mild. The yellow curry with mock duck mild. Pad se ew mild with either fried tofu or chicken. Three flavor fish is spicy but so good. I love their Thai tea and mango sticky rice. Customer service is always great and they work as fast as they can. Not too many places to eat and sit. Bahn Thai has been on my "must visit list" for some time after being recommended by a friend of mine. Luckily, I found myself in San Diego 'round dinner time and swung by for a visit. Side note for all folks who haven't been here before: this is primarily a take-out spot with limited seating: meaning that all orders are packed in to-go boxes, along with plastic cutlery, and pre packed chili/hot sauce. There are 3 tables right outside - one 4-top and two 2-tops. For my "treat-yo-self" meal I ordered the fried tofu appetizer and the pad see ew with tofu. This spot was BUSTLING with orders and the kitchen crew was working hard with the made-to-order meals! I waiting for around 10minutes until my order was called and found myself a seat then dig in. OH MY GOSH I couldn't believe how marvelously delicious each and every bite I had was.. my friend who recommended this spot wasn't kidding when he said this was the best place to get some great Thai food. The fried tofu had a perfect crunch on the outside and the accompanying sauce was so good I could drink it. And the pad see ew? I nearly ate the ENTIRE plate because it was SO DARN GOOD. Love this place! It may not be what you're expecting, but if you're willing to order from a counter and then find a table, this place is amazing. They will bring you the food when it's ready. All tables are outside. There are 2 huge heaters for 5 tables, so you don't have to worry about being cold. The chicken fried rice will blow your mind. A solid Thai spot in North Park. They only have a few tables outside and the inside space is very small. I do wish it was more of a sit-down restaurant, but they only offer takeout. Parking can be challenging on the street and there is usually a line/wait for food. I think they run their business very efficiently and gave us an accurate estimate for when our food would be ready. The panang curry was delicious and they listen to your order of spice levels well (I am weak). The pad thai was also very good. I see why many people consider this their go-to for Thai food. The ordering process was good and they were friendly and helpful. The food was okay. I usually get drunken noodles and these were on the bland side and did not seem to have enough sauce. Takes about 20 minutes for an order to be prepared, and it is not exactly a restaurant, but more like a take-out place that has some tables out in front where you can wait. We'd planned to eat there, not realizing it wasn't a regular sit-down restaurant, but after 20 minutes chose to take the food home as the sitting section is set up on a super busy sidewalk with lots of dogs and folks passing around us, so it got uncomfortable. Both dishes were mild, but I didn't taste any spiciness so I'd opt for a medium instead. Super busy and packed so you know it's good. The restaurant is small so seating is primarily outside. Parking is not easy to find at all, even on a late Friday night so plan accordingly. Pad see ew was delicious, noodles were bouncy, and the vegetables had a nice crunch. Basil fried rice was really good, super wok hei albeit a tad bit dry. The chili oil they gave was excellent -- it added the salt and spice we were missing. I've been eating here since around 2009 and since that time have eaten at a lot of other Thai restaurants. Nothing really compares to the taste, freshness of ingredients and tenderness of meat. Especially the chicken. Most Thai restaurants the chicken is some degree of over cooked but not here. I don't know what happened to this place... 8 years ago, when I first tried it, I thought it was pretty good. Have the owners changed or something? Today, I ordered food on the way back from the zoo, and I was really disappointed. Parking is really hard, it's a busy part of town on a Friday night. When I picked up my order, it was amongst about 20 other orders, so I know I wasn't the only one who couldn't find parking! Drunken noodles with beef--spicy level mild isn't supposed to mean, no flavor. It was so bland. The noodles, the beef... There was no seasoning clinging to either; absence of the Maillard Reaction. Pad Thai w/ chicken was on the slightly sweeter side, but still, also bland and underwhelming. Both noodle dishes were very pale-looking. You're not supposed to mess up on pad Thai, it's the staple dish! The Choo Chee Fish was the only saving grace of the meal, honestly. Flavor was good, rich in coconut milk, but, the cook on the fish was, ummmm... different. It seemed like it was pre-cooked separately, and then thrown into the curry. It wasn't braised by the curry sauce, like I was expecting. Staff was friendly enough, and I was quoted a 35 minute wait for pickup at 7pm, on a Friday night. Prices were comparable to other Thai eateries, $15 for the noodle dishes, and $17 for the Choo Chee Fish. I'm not inclined to go back, sadly. read more

Bahn Thai is one of the most legit Thai places I've had in San Diego. They also give a perfect portion size. Fyi it's not really a sit down restaurant, more of an order to-go spot, but they do have outdoor seating which gives me Europe vibes haha. Be warned though, there are a lot of flies when you sit outside so you'll be fighting them off while enjoying your food. I haven't tried many of their dishes yet, but I really ought to! I always get their drunken noodles and pad see ew, which are so perfectly seasoned and not dry at all. My boyfriend has a deep appreciation for their pad see ew because he's tried to make it at home and it's very difficult to make lol! Their chicken is also not dry at all, perfectly moist. I've also had their mango sticky rice and it's delicious! I will be back to try their other dishes :) Tip is to order on the phone and come pick up since there's always a lot of people here! A classic! One of my favorite thai places ever!! I've never dined in, only gotten to-go. Parking is pretty difficult but if you can sit in, the seating looks lovely during a nice day. Im a big fan of the curries, especially the green curry. There's always a perfect amount at a reasonable price. Service has always been 10/10, super helpful and professional.
