Bahnans has, in my opinion, the best falafel in the city. The falafel wrap is my go-to. The sandwich combo comes with fries or a salad and a canned beverage and the prices are so reasonable. The vegetarian grape leaves are always fresh. The leaves themselves are never tough and the filling is always cooked and seasoned perfectly. The chicken shwarma sandwich is also top notch, as is the fattoush salad. Bahnans can be easily passed by due to it's location, and parking can be tight, but it's worth any hardship you might endure to get there. read more

Fresh Baked goods, food items ready to eat like salads and falaffel, and grocery items of a middle eastern slant, with really wonderful service even though I hit them at closing time. The store made baklava is so deliciously balanced, not overly sweet, lots of nutty goodnessz. There were many baklava to choose from as well. (I'm not used to having a choice of types!) Manakish Zataar (round bread baked with olive oil) I got a half and half . One side lemon sumac and sesame, one side tomato and nuts. The bread was a little stale (I got the last one and it was closing time) but despite that the other flavors were so compelling and wonderful that I can't wait to try this again. read more

Just love the store and the atmosphere. The shawarmas were amazing, the hookah selection is great and staff is fabulous. I also tried there baklawa which was a little on the sweet side but other than that this place is solid 5 stars. Huge selection of olives and middle eastern groceries. This is probably THE best place to go for cheap, tasty Middle Eatern eats in the Worcester area. I actually prefer this place over the more expensive El Basha nearby and definitely over the exorbitantly priced, poor-tasting Sahara on Main St. The grape leaves are fresh and delicious, their lamb tip marinade is addictive, and the smokey flavor of the baba-g can't be beat. Portions are just the right size and you can customize your dinner/lunch plates. This cafe is a small part of a larger grocery store where you can buy larger quantities of these goodies, cheap pita bread, and many varieties of feta cheese. This doesn't even account for the imported items from Turkey, Iran, and surrounding areas. If you're into olives, they even have an olive bar. Since it's a small cafe, it's best to go with a small group of friends or for some quick takeout. Not only is the food great, but the service is outstanding. They have a sticker posted near the checkout claiming something cliche like "come in a customer, leave a friend". I laugh when I think of this, but am glad to say that they live up to this motto -- they make everyone feel very welcome in their establishment (they remembered my face the first time I ordered from them). I did not know this market existed until today, when I attempted to go to the OTHER place and could not find parking thanks to construction and old people taking up two spots and two lanes in the parking area. The ladies that helped me were super friendly, something rare in today's customer service world. I purchased hommus, pita, feta, olives and some closed spinach pies. Really good falafel. You get 4 good-sized falafels, plus rice, cucumber/tomato salad, hummous, and tahini sauce all when you get the falafel plate. We were traveling to Philadelphia for Greek Easter this year and with our busy schedules didn't have time to prepare our favorite dishes. So we took a chance and ordered our spanikopita, moussaka, and pistachio from Bahnan's. I don't think it would cost much less to have made them ourselves and each item was fabulous. Our Greek relatives were extremely satisfied. In fact, our daughter who now lives in Philly said that this tastes like a Worcester pita. Addictive, highly addictive street food type shwarma sandwiches (shaved meat off rotissiere). The pickled turnips, garlic aioli, the fresh parsley...YUM. Spinach salad is phenomenal...I can't figure out if it's even prepared...cooked- steamed or lightly sauteed? Maybe pressed raw and salted/vinegar...? I don't know and I'm a total foodie. All I know is it's to die for! They run out fast and if you're in a hurry call ahead. They've recently had to expand the seating area due to heavy demand, it's very European to eat in a corner of a grocery store, but just adds to the experience. You can go buy components of your meal to try and replicate at home...or go over to the bakery counter for fresh baklava, etc. It's just fun. Parking lot a wee bit tight, always busy, roughish part of town, but lot is well monitored and store too. Don't be afraid to stop in. read more

Not an ideal place to go sit and enjoy your food...BUT it's definitely one of my to-go places when I want delicious, affordable and fresh Mediterranean delicacies! Their chicken shawarma and their fatush salads are always on point, and let me tell I go there often. I would sing them a whole Italian opera to pay for my lunch but since they declined my offer I did pay with cash. I must say it didn't make such a dent on my wallet so you can also afford it too! Even their bakery selection is great! You wouldn't think much of this place if you judge from the outside (placed on a bad part of the city and doesn't look like much) but I encourage you to go inside and eat their food! I usually don't buy much of the grocery items, just a few pieces of candy here and there, but I can't get enough of their prepared foods like the spanakopita and the food from the cafe.
