Love Sanibel for many reasons but chief among them is Bailey's. This is the most amazing grocery store ever I have been to for product selection. Maybe it's becaus Sanibel draws tourists from around the world and Baikeys caters to them, but whatever the reason you will find the coolest foods from elsewhere along with the domestic items you expect. Well stocked with lots of variety for small island store. The staff is friendly and helpful. Vegetables and fruit were fresh (watermelon, tomato and cucumbers). Good wine selection. Meats were a little expensive but they do have weekly specials. They have a coffee bar and a few tables to eat outside. There is plenty of parking. Cutest little grocery store that brings me back to the old time grocery stores with a hardware dept, homemade creations made locally on Sanibel Island, lots of Florida brews to choose from, great deli area with lots to offer. We stocked up on homemade muffins, snacks, fruit, drinks, yogurt for 3 days so we wouldn't have to leave the beach until dinner. Pricey but that's to be expected on Sanibel. read more

I absolutely love this store and have to stop in each visit to Sanibel! It is reminiscent of your old fashioned general store where you would go for all your needs. We love to stroll through the hardware side which has everything from tools to books and nick nacks for your home.. all ocean themed of course which I love. The grocery side is amazing, fresh bakery, produce and meat section. We will definitely partake in some coffee from the coffee bar on our next visit. If you happen to stay at the Sundial resort down the road they have a small Bailey' located there as well, very convenient. read more

Great little grocery store on Sanibel Island. My husband & I picked up made-to-order sandwiches along with beverages for a beach picnic. We love baileys, we always do our vacation shopping here, they have everything you need and then some! I like that they are attached to the hardware store as well. The deli has great warm and cold sandwiches for a grab and go lunch, and we love their mermaid cakes and key lime pies. The staff is friendly and helpful. The choices on the Island for groceries are Bailey's and Jerry's. I've been to both over the years and I've noticed Bailey's has improved with it's selections, cleanliness (I used to get that sandy, old, Jersey shore-like feeling when I walked into the store) and it's much brighter now. It has a bakery, a fair cheese and wine area in the front, the beer selection was better than before, the fish I purchased was very fresh ( a local grouper). I'm generally satisfied. But it would be nice to find a little more reasonable prices. Now if you have to leave the Island, stop at my local fave, Sweetbay. ;-) read more

Being our first visit to Sanibel, we figured that most grocery items would be crazy expensive on the island. So we went shopping before our trip and tried to carry as much food as we could. That was really, really, dumb. Because Bailey's prices are pretty much the same as our grocery stores at home. And Bailey's is even NICER than those stores. "General Store" is pretty misleading. It's a full-size supermarket, with everything you need. The *only* thing that seemed way expensive was the BEER. Also, their bakery is highly recommended - their donuts were amazing! read more

If you are staying on the island you don't have a ton of options when it comes to shopping. If you are renting a house and need to stock up on supplies I'd recommend shopping off the island if possible to save money, but you can get everything you need at Bailey's. The wine selection was lacking for my tastes but they did have samples which of course were appreciated by my lush ass. The food selection was decent and the bakery was amazeballs. Definitely pick up donuts here one morning when you want to go into a sugar coma - they were ridiculously good. The staff working here are exceptional and everyone seems to be uber happy, but hey you're on Sanibel, you should be happy. Although we also visited Jerry's, we preferred Bailey's General Store with its wide selection of basics and gourmet food, coffee shop, and adjoining hardware store. The water refilling station was outside of the store which also made it convenient when that was the only item on our list. Friendly staff and clean place. read more

Bailey's is one of two stores on the island. You're definitely paying for convenience (the prices are inflated). Overall a good store, with anything you will need. I recommend their coffee bar if you need a good latte in your life. Personally -- I prefer Jerry's, but this place does the trick. Another reviewer commented how friendly the employees are. Bailey's is the place to shop like a local, eat like a local, and meet the locals. They carry all the essentials and some of the gourmet extras, but this is a slightly smaller store than you're probably used to and you do pay a little more for the convenience of being on the island. They've got a great bakery and coffee bar. Attached is a hardware store and next to that, a liquor store, all run by the Bailey family (some of the original Sanibel settlers). So you can stock up on most of what you need right here. Check out the bulletin board near the front of the store for upcoming island events and remember that this is a slice of old-time Florida, not whatever huge metropolis you came here to get away from. I absolutely love baileys. I've grown up on the island and it's been wonderful now my family is too. I will say, GO TO BAILEYS WITH THE NIGHT CREW! The team in the evenings on the weekend is the best !! Such amazing engery , laughing loud. Taking great time with orders, asking what specific types of meat and items we want on our deli foods. The offered the free cookies twice to my son even. Chatted with us while making our food. Just such pure genuinely happy guys in the evening. We recently went during the afternoon time, such a disappointment. They barely greet you, they are pretty quiet. They don't ask what type of meat we want on items. We ordered cookies, no offer for my child standing there , he was sad, our items were so messy and it was just all bad. I love this store and will always support it !!! But first shift - do your job or find another one , your lack of customer service and happiness will drive people away, especially during the busy season !!!!! read more

Don't get me wrong, my family has been going to Bailey's for years and we will always love it. I would award it 4 stars but I did have a bad experience this week while on vacation. I bought 2 packages of pre-made hamburger patties packaged by their butcher and discovered that some of them had very large (half dollar sized) chunks of trimmed fat purposefully concealed in them face down as not to be seen. I had to pick them out, leaving big holes. Not cool Mr. Butcher. Not cool. I won't be buying chop meat there again. The other issue had to do with some moldy herbs, but these I was able to return, so no biggie. I still love Bailey's, but hope they will improve the butcher shop. A little fat is one thing, but this was clearly filler. I am posting this publicly because I don't think they should get away with these shenanigans. They are a better store than that. read more

In my humble, native Floridian point of view, no trek from the busy East Coast of Florida out to Captiva Island is complete without a "Stocking Up" stop at Bailey's General Store. Grabbing the staples to load the Resort Fridge with, such as Orange Juice, English Muffins, Cereal, Milk, Drinks, and Beer.... and the other Islandy things you'll only see at an Islandy General Store. Bailey's has been here forever, and by that, I mean since I was a little girl (if not longer.) It's adorbale and I may be a bit nostalgic and partial to it, but I just love wandering through the aisles, checking out the same stuff that's in my neighborhood Publix, but with a little more laid back Island Charm. Bailey's is a family-run market that's been in the area for generations. They have an impressive selection of organic produce, a wide variety of beers, an excellent hardware store that's attached to the grocery store and they just recently started offering reusable bags for eco-conscious customers. While I can't find every single thing I need here, I can find a whole lot and every year it's getting better and better. I really think this is one of the treasures of Sanibel, FL. Every time we come here we visit Bailey's as one of our first stops. It's worth mentioning that even though the local video rental place is gone, Bailey's now has a video rental vending machine, so problem solved! read more

The pricing is less heart attack-inducing, the service is friendly, the deli meat is delicious, the Mermaid Cakes in the bakery look spectacular, and the grocery items seem fresher (we had issues with a jar of popcorn that came with a side of bugs - blech - and meat that expired 1 day after purchasing from Jerry's). If you don't stop at a Publix in Fort Myers, make a beeline to Bailey's to stock up for your vacation. Or, save yourself a trip and order online for delivery to your doorstep. read more

THE island grocery store. I've recently gotten into beer from the Kona Brewing Company, from Hawaii - and Bailey's had a limited edition brew! The Bailey's coffee shop is like a mini-Starbucks, a bit pricey, but very tasty. I had the vanilla latte and it was excellent. The General Store itself is a bit expensive, though it seems to be expected on the Sanibel-Captiva islands. While not a large scale grocery store like on the mainland, for a small island it has everything you'll need. The beach/map section is typical of all stores in the area, selling sunglasses and suntan lotion. read more

We were on the island for Christmas week and shopped here for lunch food things. They're stocked with everything, being a full service grocery. The deli had great Black Forest ham and turkey that they baked there in the store. The highlight of my week in Sanibel was that the best grouper I had during my stay came from here that we grilled ourselves. It was a wow meal. We also got a couple of thick steaks that grilled perfectly. If you're looking for food, hit up the deli and the fish counters--the snapper looked good The prices were more than what I'm used to in NC, but being on an island in south Florida, I can't complain. Even though we stayed in Captiva, this was the grocery store we came to while we were on vacation! We love Bailey's General Store! We went to the coffee bar and got their delicious smoothies almost every day, and got donuts after Church on Sunday. The variety of their bakery is wonderful. Love this general store and grocery. I think their key lime pie is better than Jerry's. They sell a key lime BBQ that is amazing and I usually take some bottles home to Missouri. They have a great selection of donuts, pastries and desserts. read more
