Great local supermarket with a great deli and a legit coffee shop to boot. The fruit, veggies, snacks and hot food selection was so large despite its relatively small size. Whoever is stocking their shelves and choosing what items are getting sold is fantastic. The "general" in this case casts a wide umbrella covering a super wide array offerings for any conceivable beachside need (towels, buckets, floaties, umbrellas, sunscreen, shorts, tops and flip flops) not to mention an astounding assortment of delicatessen offerings, remarkably fresh and varied produce, pre-prepared salads and quiches and pizzas, and craft beers up the ying-yang. There's a full blown coffee bar and bakery here complete with lattes, muffins, cookies, cakes and biscuits. The cat behind the deli counter said to us "Breakfast, lunch and dinner! We do it all, and we do it real well!" And, man, he wasn't kidding. A lot of people talk about making a stop at Walmart on the mainland before tripping over here to the Sanibel...don't bother. Great store on island to pick up snacks, necessities.. beach things and shelling tools.. no see em spray, sunscreen, aloe, meds, pastries, fudge, fresh produce, ect. Not the cheapest place to stock up but if you forget something it's faster and easier than going off island and paying the bridge tolls. This store has it all and amazing customer service. Our condo had a coffee machine,but no coffee so yelped coffee shops and this came up. I tried to sneak out, but my daughter caught me and wanted to come. They have a bakery, deli, gift shop etc.. I was so worried I was going to have to fork out a fortune to avoid a temper tantrum when the friendly gentleman behind the Bakery offered my daughter a cookie. We loved our iced coffees! Baileys is attached to another store with home decor items, games, and souvenirs. Worth poking around if you're the collector type. Overall, this general store will relieve any stresses of having to leave the island or running out of essential items. For a touristy hotspot the prices seemed on par with Publix. This is a real grocery store attached to a real hardware store... unlike a mini mart... or whatever. It's a pleasure to go there! I often bicycle on Sanibel and enjoy the ride along with a nice restaurant lunch. During the covid19 ordeal, restaurants are closed so that left me with Baileys. They were able to supply all their deli foods, drinks and even a great coffee bar. Added together we were able to have a perfect (social distancing) picnic, which we took outside. This review is for the bakery: My family went down to Sanibel for my mother's birthday and we wanted to order a nice cake to celebrate. Though the bakery was incredibly accommodating, it was quite difficult to order a cake with no menu of options or samples to refer to. There are images on the site I used to describe something similar to what I wanted but the woman was unfamiliar with the pictures and the cake ended up looking nothing like what I described. The cake as a whole was nice, nothing special and maybe a little bit sloppy. The white cake was light and airy, not too sweet. The lemon curd filling was generous. The "raspberry" frosting was waay too sweet and impossible to get through. The whipped cream decorative "flowers" were tasty as well. The 8 inch round cake was incredibly inexpensive ($35) which was great, but might be worth checking out the Bubble Room over on Captiva (much larger, well regarded cakes for about $50+) if you are looking to order a cake while on Sanibel. read more

Came on Thanksgiving day. It's a lot bigger than I thought it would be. I just wanted a simple deli sandwich. The line at the counter was long, so I grabbed a premade sandwich. Tuna on a croissant. I was in and out pretty quickly. Friendly cashier. Place was packed. The sandwich is pretty big. So I knew I wouldn't be able to eat the whole thing in one sitting. Which was great. I planned to be at the beach all day. The tuna is loaded. I mean, take a bite and it all spills out the other end. Wish I grabbed more napkins. It's very delicious, comes with big piece of green leaf. It was still a little crisp even though it was in my cooler all day. The tomato was crisp at well. Tuna is loaded so even though it was spilling out the other end, there was still a lot in the sandwich. Had a great beach lunch, and I'm happy I stopped at Baileys read more

I broke my sunglasses and wanted a souvenir. And Bailey's is a one stop pit stop - forgot something? You'll find it somewhere in the Bailey's complex which combines a grocery store, souvenir shop and hardware / home goods. Staff were very nice; noticed me wandering around aimlessly and immediately asked what I was looking for, then led me directly to the spot I needed to go. I spoke with the owner of Bailey's General Store and he apologized profusely for the interaction with this wine rep. He explained to me that he and his employees have had several problems with this person in the past, and that she was banned from all his properties in the future AND that he contacted her place of work to complain about her behavior. He asked me back to shake my hand and apologize in person. Its also an incorrect review now that I understand the wine rep didn't actually work at the store, so it is unfair to penalize the store with a bad review based on the interaction with the wine rep. read more

Read the reviews on this place and decided to stop here on my way to The beach. We stocked up on snacks and sandwiches. We also got some of their enormous and amazing cookies. Their bakery section is to die for. They have everything from pecan pies to Keylime pie's to Oreo cheesecake cookies. They have a nice deli section and a freezer case with precooked meals. Their meat and seafood case was impressive as well. They are stocked with everything you need for your beach trip and then some. I got a chicken salad sandwich on a croissant and it was packed with big pieces of fresh chicken and very tasty. Everyone was friendly and accommodating. Everyone wore masks and they were signs everywhere that masks were needed and to please keep 6 feet away from each other. My parents were just in this store. My mother has health issues where she CANNOT wear a mask so she wears a face shield as per the law. My parents shopped in the store for about 30 minutes and filled a cart with food and other necessities. As they were nearing the end of their shopping experience, a female employee came up to them and told my father to wear his mask higher and told my mom she had to wear a mask. My mother politely informed her she cannot wear a mask for health reasons which is why she was wearing a face shield. The employee lied about the laws of Sanibel, telling my parents that everyone had to wear a mask while in the store. My parents had read the laws regarding masks upon entering the island so they knew she was lying. The employee refused to listen and kept accusing them of breaking the law. Unbelievable. Fortunately, my father did not back down and told the employee a face shield was within the law. The employee then changed her mind and said, "Well, it's our store policy then." My parents left their shopping cart full of food and walked out. Bailey's has lost 2, no 3, customers for life. This kind of thing is ground for a discrimination lawsuit. Imagine refusing to serve customers who cannot wear a mask because of health problems. My parents are now heading to another grocery store down the street. There are a lot of other places to shop on the island, folks. read more

Yay! For good priced coffee! I was so happy to find this place! Went in to cool off and walk around the store to see what all they had to offer grocery wise. The barista was so nice and so welcoming! They gave free cookies to my children and treated us with respect. I'm excited to go back with my husband! Customer service is everything these days. The coffee was not the best I've had but it was good coffee. You can't beat the price either. I got a medium iced vanilla latte with coconut milk. It was 5.46. A true jewel on Sanibel. We only discovered the market a few days before our vacation ended. The store offers a broad array of meats, food, baked goods deli, and wines plus beer. They also are open 7 days a week with excellent hours. In addition they offer home delivery. It is now our first stop on future visits. read more

One of the best general stores I've ever shopped in. Bailey's is what would happen if Ace Hardware, Publix, and Trader Joes had a small-town baby. The reason for this is that the store is split into a hardware store, a fresh area with a great coffee stand, and a great grocery store. I'll go over each part below: Hardware Store: The hardware store had all of your basic hardware items AND tons of other random items for people looking to shop. Items included 4th of July clothing and cookware to random board games (Post Office Monopoly?!). They have tall ceilings and the store's square footage is bigger than most Ace Hardwares. While I didn't shop a ton in here, I would definitely be here a lot if I lived on Sanibel Island. Coffee area: Oh. My. God. The coffee area is amazing!!! They had so many different options from regular coffee to fun smoothies to FREAKING BUTTERBEER! WITH NOT ONE, BUT TWO EXPRESSO SHOTS! That drink tasted absolutely amazing and made me wish I actually lived on Sanibel. Plus, it had a very cute 1950's look to it, which made it feel even more charming. Eat your heart out, Starbucks. Grocery Store: The grocery store had your basic items and lots of fun unique items. The best part of it though was the meat area in the back. They had tons of different meat and fish options (including some amazing swordfish which is really hard to find), and the butcher gave us step-by-step directions for cooking all of our food. Where else can you find all these options, excellent service, and prices that aren't outrageous? The answer is nowhere else. Overall, while it isn't Whole Foods with its quality or Walmart with its prices, Bailey's is hands down one of the best stores in Florida. The wide range of options, tasty treats, and excellent service in such a charming setting makes Bailey's the place you need to shop if you are ever on Sanibel Island. read more

Wow what an unexpected pleasure. This is a really nice store with great selection and amenities. But they have an excellent fresh produce selection and good organic choices. The store is well kept and has some nice private label items. We liked the salsas. Although it says general market it's a full fledged store and also has a good selection of seafood. We had the stone crab and the gulf shrimp and they were great If you can go to the Sunday farmers market but for other times this is a nice spot. read more

Very cute general store with great hospitality, however we ordered a red velvet cake and it did not taste anything like red velvet nor was in fact red but rather purple brown. The cakes flavor also did not resemble red velvet so I'm unsure what I consumed but it was not red velvet cake. read more

Well stocked grocery store with just about anything one could need during a stay on Sanibel or Captiva. Yes, it's a bit on the pricey side, but if you don't want to pay touristy prices at a store on an island then grab a few things in Fort Myers before crossing the bridges out here. We found Bailey's to be perfect for grabbing a few things without having to run all they way back to the mainland, and the staff really was super-friendly every time, willing to go out of their way for anything you ask. You can even grab beach essentials, board games, light bulbs and/or souvenirs at the Hardware Store that's connected to the general store just past the coffee counter. Oh, regarding the coffee: my wife had a cold brew, I had a drip Columbian and we were expecting to have our socks knocked off based upon other reviews here on Yelp. Ummmm... that just wasn't the case. Both were 'meh' & middle of the road; given another chance I would go elsewhere for your caffeine fix. Great place on Sanibel Island to get your groceries, pick up a snack, pack a picnic, load up on beer, etc. Large deli and hot meals (fried chicken, Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and the like.). Lots of fresh seafood on the meat department. Also, this is the place to find many locally produced products such as salsa, candy, jellies. Nice selection of organic produce. All produce was a little expensive but that should be expected on an island. In fact, expect higher prices on most items than you would find on the main island. Many registers to get you in and out quickly. Aisles are a little narrow. Great options for a general store. Lots of carts available for use. Nice location. In a strip mall with a small cinema, hardware store and liquor store. Large paved parking lot with two exits. read more

Shopped at Jerry's and Bailey's during our vacation on Sanibel Island and Bailey's is our preference. Prices seem better and meat seemed fresher. Plus, having the hardware store connected made it easy to find everything at one place. Jerry's seemed to have more prepared or hot foods though. We didn't shop off the island before arriving, as we had been to Sanibel in the past and found that these two stores had everything a family could need for a slightly higher price.
