This place was terrible.. For some reason, all the negative reviews on this place are filtered?? Took our 2 1/2 yr old daughter here.. WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY. I'll start off by saying the animals are NOT even taken care of.. It actually made me cry it was so depressing, most had NO food, some had drops of water. The lone cow was so sick he was crying and had urine all over him. They give all the animals CORN because its cheap, but has no nutritional value and the animals are suffering because of it. Place was FILTY. "play area" was filled with filthy plastic toys that were most likely picked up free off the road and was in the blazing sun. "picnic area" had filthy metal tables in the blazing sun most with broken umbrellas. "Gift shop" HAHAHA smelled of stale smoke and was filled with $1 crap marked up to $5. We really wanted to like this place... We have fond memories of the catskill game farm and thought maybe it was run by someone who just loves animals and although they probably don't get much business, but they do it for the love of animals.. YEAH RIGHT. Stayed maybe 45 minutes when we were expecting to get a day of fun.. I didn't even go in the bathroom to wash my hands after feeding the animals.. I was so skeeved out by the whole place I just wanted to leave. Staff was unfriendly, oh and they advertise a train ride... WHAT TRAIN?? There was nothing.. wish I could call someone to get this place in trouble for false advertising.. I'll have to look into that.. Told the owner his animals needed water on our way out and got nothing but a snide rude response. This man does NOT seem to care about his animals at all. Waste of a day off with my family. I will be contacting the SPCA regarding the treatment of these animals.. and I hope judging by the other reviews on here that others will too.. HELP THESE ANIMALS! Get them OUT of this place! GROSS GROSS GROSS! All I can do is hope the $30 we spent will go to the poor animals.. even though I'm sure it wont judging my the looks of the rundown place.. Our $210 "scenic sunset ride" was NOT scenic nor enjoyable! My boyfriend and I went thinking it would be fun, and I spoke with Tiffani via email, who assured me that the ride was beautiful and scenic. The only time we got to see the sunset was back at the farm, once the ride was over and we were getting off the horses. We went through some uninteresting forest, on a road and past tin shacks and piles of gravel. The landscape was completely uninteresting and dull. What really made the trip unbearable was our guide, Andy. He wouldn't stop talking the entire time, which would've been fine had he been a good conversationalist - my boyfriend and I are friendly and outgoing people. However, he just talked the entire time about what a tough guy he was, his girlfriend, how to change a tractor tire, and on, and on, and on... Save yourself time and money and do not go horse back riding at this place! read more

The owners must have made some changes recently and after past reviews. I see a lot of negative reviews that were left in the past but I have to say my experience was quite pleasant. It's a quaint little zoo/petting zoo. All animals looked to be kept in adequate conditions. There were many signs at different exhibits to ask the owners if you had any questions or concerns about the animals or their habitats. With any petting zoo there is inherint risk of getting bit so common sense should be practiced by parents and children while feeding the animals. On that note the ONLY animal that bit was the cavy and that's only because I was petting him and he assumed I had food so that was my fault(watch out for the cavy when feeding because they have sharp teeth). Price is....average to other zoos but other zoos don't let you feed their animals! All animals were friendly and looked to be in good spirits. Its an experience in itself to be able to hand feed monkeys, wallabys, parrots and other friendly exotic critters. I went to feed a monkey and he shook my hand which was an experience in itself and something I will not forget anytime soon. A baby goat sucked on my wife's thumb while his mother licked her arm meaning they were more appreciative of the attention than being fed corn. All animals were very tamed and used to being around humans and being hand fed. The feed is reasonably priced and unlike most reviewers I HIGHLY doubt the animals are only being fed corn from the patrons of the zoo. Most of the animals were eating hay while I was there and the corn feed seemed to be more of a treat for them. I used a buy one get one admission coupon from the 2015 entertainment book for my wife and I to get in but I say with confidence that we ll be returning again at full price THIS SEASON(that's how much fun we had). It's slightly small but they do pack a lot into the space and its more about the experience of interacting with the animals than anything else. My ONLY suggestion would be to re do the bathrooms, and provide a hand sanitizing station within the zoo. This zoo is less than an hour away from the capital district and is definitely a fun cheap way to spend a day. Patronize this business or it will disapear like the Catskill game farm which was unfortunate. read more

I'm not sure how this can be called a zoo. It's super tiny and barely has any animals. The animals they do have don't look very well cared for. The kids enjoyed feeding some of the animals and they enjoyed the playground toys. However, we only spent about 75 mins walking around and that's it. Definitely not worth the money even with the groupon discount. read more

Went horse backing riding for the first time and it was great. Really nice people and good prices for a one hour ride, I highly recommend checking it out in the winter months, the nearby woods are beautiful. read more

I went to the discovery zoo with my parents, uncle and 2 kids. The admission price was excessive at $14 for adults and $10 for kids. We went anyway hoping that it would be great. The sandbox area for kids had a lot of toys and play structures but most were broken and all were dirty. The animals seemed ok but for the price, there wasn't a whole lot to see. They also sold carrots and cups of corn. The $5 bag of baby carrots was expired by 3 months and were slimy. It left me feeling like they didn't care about their animals and it was a rip off. They inflatable jumping structure was also very dirty and had lots of holes that were poorly patched. Overall, they priced themselves like the old Catskill Game Farm but they aren't in the ballpark when it comes to quality. read more

I took my 13 year old daughter on a 2 hour horse back ride. It was quite pricey ($95 per person) but the ride was nice and the look-out we rode to was beautiful. Our guide handled my very stubborn horse very well when needed and seemed to be an experienced rider. However, I was very turned off by the fact that she was constantly text messaging while she was riding and in the course of casual conversation she swore up a storm, even dropping the F-Bomb several times in front of my daughter. I thought she was very unprofessional in her language and did not tip her as a result. read more

I took my family, of four, horseback riding, so I can only speak to that aspect of the ranch. The ride was good and the guide Andy was good. The prices however seemed very expensive, 220.00 for four people, not including tip for the guide. The facility looked to be in a state of disrepair and one the workers spent her time arguing with her boyfreind on her cell phone in front of us while we were waiting for our horses, very unprofessional. Overall I don't think I'll be back to this ranch. read more

What a ripoff. The website is very outdated - shows and says a bouncy house for the kids - well the bouncy house is ripped and deflated and laying on the ground. The train ride they advertise? Well that is a broken train that's been sitting in the ground for years. But of course you don't know any of this until you pay the admission to get behind the fence. OMG, Don't know why the others gave bad reviews, Love this place. The animals are CLEARLY cared for. - If a horse doesn't have water it is because it is too hot, a horse needs to cool down before it can have water or food or they will get sick.- The people there are so friendly as well as the animals. It is a very " at home" and down to earth place to go. read more

I would spend more time driving to a real zoo somewhere else. Spent $30 and left after 30 minutes. I felt very uncomfortable there.

HORRIBLE PLACE. We pass by 2-3 times a year for a couple years now and every time I wish more and more that this place gets shut down. None of the animals get proper care, especially all the horses and donkeys that we see outside of the zoo. Never ever have we seen them have water. In the summer heat the poor animals just lay there in exhaustion with their mouths open begging for water. Not to mention the many cuts and marks they have. Today a worker was just sitting there reading a book in the shade when she could have been giving the horses proper care. Many other guests came and made the same comments, and the workers are impolite about it. A couple years ago we went inside the zoo. Besides the obvious uncared-for animals, there was a snake on the loose! We got out of their as fast as we could and never entered the zoo grounds again. We completely refuse to give this zoo our money. THEY ONLY USE THE ANIMALS FOR MONEY. A poor little 4 month old porcupine was kept in the heat alone, when it should have been with its mother or atleast in the shade. It was trying so hard to escape, even pushing down the enclosed area and trying to dig under. Something has to be done about this disgusting zoo and their owners that show no care for the animals. Do not help them monetize the animals anymore. read more

Ok, anyone leaving good reviews about this place HAVE to be employees! My friend and I took our kids here after reading good reviews, and seeing pictures of all sorts of cool animals! Our first stop was the bathroom... completely discusting, clogged toilets, broken sinks, no toilet paper. .yeah, it was delightful. To get in, you walk through a "gift shop" with empty dusty shelves, and a bunch of useless crap that no one could pay me to take home. But, we paid our $15 per person and hoped for the best. Next stop was the "playground" ..basically a mud pit with old, dirty, sun faded backyard toys (cozy coop cars etc.) The swingset was broken and rusty, and the slide was from 1953. The whole playground was a lawsuit waiting to happen. My kids DID have fun In the old dirty bounce house... but kids are easily amused. Next stop.. the "picnic area" a few rotted picnic tables in a mud puddle..oh joy!! Ok, next up was to look at all the awesome animals that they advertise on their website and huge sign! Giraffes, kangaroos, elephants. .yay!! Oh, nope. ..just a few goats, llamas, an emaciated cow living in a 4 foot pen, a chimpanzee ..who looked pretty pissed..in a pen made of chain link fence and a few staples. I'm pretty sure this old rickety chimpanzee enclosure was very easily escapable...I'm sure you'll be hearing about an escaped chimp rippping peoples faces off in the near future. Oh, and the bear was in a similar enclosure..yikes! Basically this place is an old,run down DUMP.. and they either need to close up shop, or take out a serious bank loan and remodel the entire place. They obviously have no budget for upkeep. The highlight of our visit was when the emaciated calf escaped its broken enclosure and had the time of its life running free! :) read more

My friend and I visited Bailiwick Animal Park in late summer 2014. It is a quaint family owned ranch and zoo. We first went horseback riding, which was like an equestrian adventure. Our instructor took us on a trail ride for an hour or so that took us all around the ranch and into the forest. My horse, Carbon, had a personality that I've never seen in a horse and was pretty animated. As for my friend, his horse was pretty calm and gentle. It was definitely worth the money. We took advantage of the package to also see the animal park, which was pretty interesting. The animals were approachable and non- threatening. They seemed to really enjoy their home and they weren't as caged up like a conventional zoo. The animals had their space and freedom, and I kind of like that. It definitely stands apart from other zoos. I hope to come back again when I get a chance to visit the Catskills. Thanks, guys, for making a memorable experience for me! read more
