A hummingbird nearly took my eye out a few minutes ago and I couldn't be happier. This place is very special. "Hidden gem" doesn't do the journey to find it justice but the hunt really paid off in the end. A perfect place to hide, unplug and really relax. Not too fancy but quintessential charming. The staff is hard working and very happy to be here. And Jim and TJ work their butts off to make sure everything is just right. I would recommend this oasis for reunions, corporate retreats, family getaways, destination weddings, and so much more.

Our guide Jose was excellent! He never ventured too far ahead, always making sure we were right behind him. We ended up popping a tire in the middle of our excursion and Jose changed our tire in addition to making sure we were all calm and uninjured. The terrain was a mix of hills, bumps, rocks, and portions of flat dirt road - not to crazy for us first-timers. Halfway though our excursion we stopped at Rincon Tropicana, a beautiful resort in the middle of the canyon we were driving through. The resort featured a monkey and other animals, in addition to beverages! Would definitely do this again! Highly recommended!

I enjoyed him being our driver so much that I hired him again this past weekend to take a group of 7 of us wine tasting. Fernando is very prompt with his communication and is always punctual. He is VERY knowledgeable about which wineries to go to, where to eat good tacos and he was even willing to share the history he knew about the land. Fernando is a joy to be around and he goes above and beyond to make your trip unforgettable. He gives you a reasonable price and has good connections with many wineries, no need to go through a pricey wine tour company. Can't wait to go on another trip with the best tour guide!

He is so flexible and really knows the history and way around the valley. He is well connected in the valley and very personable . At the end of the tour he took us to a hidden restaurant in a beautiful setting under a lot of mature trees. Is was nice and cool and our lunch was the best meal we had during our visit to Rosarito. The restaurant was called Hacienda in San Antonio de las Animas (I believe), and extremely inexpensive. Our next tour with Fernando will be from Tijuana all the way to Cabo! Thanks Fernando for a memorable Anniversary day!

Eagle Mining - Eagle Mining Co., in Julian, CA

This is a cool hands on history lesson of the area of Julian, circa 1870…read more Many times we have gone to Julian, many times we have played in the snow, eaten apple pie, had pizza and beer. But somehow we never knew there was a mining history there and that it was very prolific in the 1870s. The tour is worth the cost, and starts with a history of the equipment and the area as well as the information about how the mining equipment and the mine were preserved. There is a demonstration of how to pan for gold, and there is a lot of old equipment as well as a shop with relics, books and western style homestead-ish goods. A nice variety of options. The walk through the mine would have been better with a smaller group where we wouldn't feel rushed. It was cool that down in the mine there is still equipment, and you can view down into the hole where the miners would be lowered to work for the day. The mine is very dark - but also well lit and as your eyes adjust there is no problem watching where you walk and seeing the historic equipment down in the mine. The tour is actually 2 shafts that connect, as you finish one mine area then the tour guide takes you into the other mine shaft and at the end of the tour you exit on the other side of the mountain- pretty cool. You must be mobile, not claustrophobic, this is a child friendly tour but please impress to your kids that listening is key, some portions of the tour it may be more difficult to hear the guide. At one point they lights are turned off so that the guide can demonstrate the use of a candle to iluminate the way, it's a short period but might be scary to young visitors if not reassured. I recommend this tour for tourists, locals, adults and kids - great to learn the history of Julian and the mines that were there during the gold rush. I believe they said - more than 200!

John was very knowledgeable and provided a detailed explanation of how mining was conducted on that specific sight and gave an excellent overall history lesson. The tour took approximately 1 hour the cost was $15 for adults,Kids Age 5-11=$8 and Children Age 4 Younger =$1. The cost also included a lesson on panning for gold which your kids will enjoy. They do offer BBQ, shop and clean bathroom facilities we didn't get a chance to try the food, but it smelled good. Eagle Mining Co., is about a 5 minute drive from Main Street Julián. Check it out! Happy Yelping :)

So if you're on the fence or feeling anxious, this review is for you. We had Andrew as our guide and he was awesome. Before we even got on the open air hummer, he was very upfront that the ride would be bumpy and gave solid advice on where to sit if heights make you uneasy. That actually made me more nervous at first, but it turned out to be totally fine. The hummer never gets that close to the cliff edge, and it always felt controlled and safe. The views are unreal!!!!!! seriously breathtaking. We were lucky enough to see 2 bison, 2 Catalina foxes, 2 does, and a young buck. The tour before us saw zero bison, so we were thrilled. We even got to see them up close, which was incredible. As for the ride itself, I didn't find it nearly as bumpy as people make it sound. There were a few spots where the height felt a little sketchy, but in a "whoa" way, not a "nope, I regret everything" way. All in all, I'd absolutely recommend this tour. Don't let dramatic exit speeches scare you off, you'll be glad you did it. There's blankets available on the hummer in case you get chilly. Tips: - bring cash. TIP YOUR DRIVER!!!! - secure your hat and hair, so hat doesn't go flying off
