Remote resort and winery hosting about 30 individually standing buildings made up of three separate suites all encircling the grapevines tended by the staff. About an hour and a half drive from the US/Mexico border stands El Cielo ready to welcome you into their quiet neighborhood surrounded by lush lands and hills often grazed by their many cattle and other livestock. Within the vicinity, you'll find little, but a few high end eateries exist. The dirt paths are roads less travelled, however, you're not too far from the port city of Ensenada. As you drive into the long entrance to the main lobby, you'll notice the openness of it all. The horizon is just barely obstructed and the land is extremely flat with the exception of the hills nearby. The property has a lake and serves as a beautiful and serene place to take a walk. In the evenings, the stars are extremely clear and bright against the pitch dark sky. Bask in the tranquility as the only sounds you'll hear are the occasional croaks from the native frogs or chirps of crickets and whistling night breeze. If you came during the day, however, and haven't melted already, the first step out will be a shocker due to the immense heat you'll feel being just a smidge closer to the equator. The staff greeted us with some cold glasses of refreshing white wines as we checked in. Upon getting our suite and room keys, they offered to shuttle us to our rooms but if you drove in yourself, feel free to drive on over and park in the driveway. For those with electric vehicles, they do have charging available right outside each suite. The rooms are spacious, well ventilated and adequately illuminated. The beds are soft and the mattress and pillows are super comfortable. The bathrooms are clean and modern; water pressure is good. Amenities were appreciated - bottles of drinking water (was told to refrain from consuming water from tap in Mexico so this was a big plus), clean towels, hygiene and supplemental kits were available, and mirrors were abundant (long, standard, and close up). Each room also comes with a TV and localized air conditioning and fan unit, giving full control over room climate. There's also a balcony but it was much too hot to be out during the day. The evenings were cool and provided a nice place to sit back and enjoy the stars. There's a shared outdoor pool, a gymnasium and a chapel house. I only got to use the pool and it was relatively clean aside from the occasional bug that might have fallen in. There were towels and chairs for patrons to use. The lake was a nice stroll but it's not too big and much of the path is fully exposed to the sun. Breakfast occurs between 8-9:30 am at the main building on the second floor. They'll check you in at the front desk for your name and room number and you'll have the option to sit indoors in the dark but elegant dining room or outdoors on the patio. The food is self service and included a variety of options including eggs, beans, meats, dairy, nuts and fruits. They also have a dessert section where I got to try a chia seed parfait with fresh berries. Orange juice and coffee are also served with your meal. The service is phenomenal here. The staff are friendly and very welcoming. For non-Spanish speakers, it wasn't too difficult to communicate our needs. Overall, El Cielo is a great vacation spot to disconnect from all your worries and engage in the present. There's not a whole lot to do here specifically, but the downtime offers room to connect with your loved ones. With its proximity to other hot spots and eateries, El Cielo proved to be a humble and comfortable rest spot in between the tourist attractions, explorations, and wine and dining. If you're looking for a place that has nearly everything taken care of for you to enjoy a stress free vacation, El Cielo has you covered. You just need to make your way down here!
The grounds are beautiful but the service, very lacking! We were hoping to try out the restaurant but it was pretty empty-didn't seem too appealing and the prices are so steep that we opted for a bottle instead. The server was not helpful in suggesting a bottle so we just chose one randomly. He brought out the bottle and disappeared, we were the only table there so it wasn't a good sign at all. There are so many other location options that we will try next time and definitely not interested in coming back here again.
I'm going to steal another reviewer's comment. It's a 4 start resort in 1 star surroundings. To be fair the same can be said for pretty much all of the "nice touristy" spots in Valle. All of the resorts/wineries/fine dining spots are located on a nice property tucked away from the barren undeveloped surroundings. The property itself is pretty nice, it's basically like a gated townhouse community surounding a couple of man made lakes. The rooms were fairly large and well furnished. Quality of said furnishing were decent. Overall the service was great and we didn't have any issues communicating with the staff in english. I would consider the price cheap by US resort standards but more than I would expect to pay in Mexico
I returned to give this ace another chance. I tried one white, one Rose and two reds. The white wine was fresh and crisp and had a nice vanilla and guava flavoring. The rosé was also crisp and the best rosé that I've had from this place. The wine was from 2022 and it had a taste of white cherries. The Tempranillo red wine was not good. It was very tart and very bitter. The Malbec was delicious. Alex Garcias did an excellent as our wine specialist. So I'm changing to 3 stars.
What we have here is a 4-star resort in 1-star surroundings. Basic concept is multiunit "houses" built around a working vineyard, within vineyards. The grounds themselves are welcoming and well maintained, but all the roads in the resort are unpaved. The dusty environment is inherent to Valle de Guadalupe and the Ensenada "Wine Route". From the time you enter the resort from Carretera Francisco Zarco (which is more minefield than paved road), you're driving on dirt. Reception and bell staff are very good. However, the guards at the entrance speak little to no English. Yes, I know it's Mexico. But El Cielo is marketing itself to Americans as a destination resort. Basic hospitality English can be expected.
This was our first stop in the Valle and we are so glad we decided to go to El Cielo. We chose to taste whites and reds. After we finally figured out where to go to do our tasting, we were greeted by Angel. He was so friendly and upbeat. He brought out each wine at a good pace. We didn't have to wait too long between pours. He told us about each wine and highlighted the awards they've won. We ended up taking home a few bottles because they were really good. The outdoor seating area is covered from the sun and was the perfect setting for wine tasting. I couldn't recommend this place more.
My husband and I were able to secure a wine tasting last minute here during our trip to Valle. The grounds were huge and there were tons of activities including golf cart tours, etc. we opted for a simple tour on the patio. It was very crowded, but our server was still great. Although I had a good experience, I can only recommend this as a last minute stop. It felt like a Hilton hotel in a way.
What a beautiful property. The view from the bedroom balcony is so peaceful & a perfect place to have morning coffee or an evening glass of wine. Love, LOVE, LOVE this property. The restaurants were all amazing and service was great. On-site vans are Mercedes-Benz, super clean an on time. We did the wine "cave" tasting and while it wasn't what we expected, still delightful. The chocolate pairings were surprising, but fun.
Five stars for the rooms. Very luxurious, we could have definitely stayed here for a week. The rooms were spacious and comfortable with large bathroom, lovely shower, sitting area and balcony. Deducted three stars because the service was so-so. Breakfast service was great. The front desk service was poor. The neighbors next to our unit brought their own 3 foot tall speaker and were blasting music late into the night. Now I'm all for a good time and celebrating but frankly this was excessive and disrespectful. We paid just as much as the neighbors to stay at the resort so we deserve to sleep at 1am. The front desk was pretty useless in doing anything about it. Really disappointed in that aspect
OH EM GEEEEEEE!! I had no idea what i was in for when my friends called and said they had 2 seats for a prix fixed dinner in Valle... it wasn't cheap (by baja standards) ...$200 pp, but it was soooo worth it and i would do it again. By the way..price included wine, tax & tip. ..so ya not as pricey as i initially felt. 6 courses ..each one better than the last one. wine was flowing the wine is good! ...others in our party work in the wine industry in Napa and they loved the wines! room was breathtaking!! i felt like it was in a Disney movie! imagine Beauty and the Beast dining room (minus the talking dishes) courses (see images for details) 1st- Black ceviche 2nd - Sheep Tzic 3rd - Duck Salbut 4th - Pork belly taco (best pork belly i have EVER eaten!) 5th - smoked sheep 6th - guava dessert. and i remember a tray of flaming tequila at about this point. ... just do it! it was one of the best meals i have ever eaten in my life!!
Pretty and more on the fancy side. Has tours, restaurants, shops and more. Beautiful area. A bit pricy but very relaxed and you feel like you're on vacation. Would return.
This place is so classy, well put together and well ran, organized. The staff is super friendly and nice. Greeting you with a good morning and a smile and so willing to answer any questions. The house we stayed at was all to ourselves, but equipped to be broken down into 3 separate rooms if you're not able to rent the whole house. Beautiful view, man made lake with the houses surrounding it, they even have a church with active service on Sundays. We came for New Years, but if you want to come see the grapes, they say the best time of the year is around August or September. We visited the "cueva", which means cave, and that's where all the barrels of wine are kept. The wine tasting had a tour of the place, along with some history. Had dinner in one of their restaurants Latitud, food was ok, maybe I expected more, this place is so upscale. Overall I would love to stay here again, it's beautiful here.
This is a pretty place, with the prices being a little bit more on the higher end. We wanted to sit outside but it was pretty cloudy and cold so we sat inside instead. You're surrounded by their merch and other items for sale.. I kind of wish there was another area to sit down at that didn't look like you were in the middle of a store. We got a bottle of Malbec which was really good. Our server was okay, he only passed by once after bringing us our bottle. Perhaps if he would have been a little more attentive we would have purchased more wine.
El Cielo was easily one of the highlights of our trip to Valle de Guadalupe. The property is absolutely breathtaking! The wines were fantastic, but what really made the experience stand out was the service. Everyone we interacted with was warm, welcoming, and genuinely excited to share their wines and story with us. Our sommelier was especially wonderful and made the tasting feel personal and relaxed rather than rushed or scripted. One of our favorite parts of the visit was the chocolate and wine pairing that my husband and I did together. Every pairing was thoughtfully put together, and it was so much fun discovering how the flavors changed and complemented each other with every sip and bite. The best surprise of the day? Finding out our sommelier was from the 805! As fellow Central Coast locals, it made the experience feel even more special and gave us an instant connection that we definitely weren't expecting to find in the middle of wine country in Baja. read more

Cielo was a big disappointment for me. Especially because I recommended this place to my friends who were celebrating a birthday. Service here took a long time to just get menus and initial drinks. We also ordered food that was no longer available. When we did order, the food took near an hour to come to our table. The place was severely understaffed and most of our utensils were dirty. Place offers great views of the vineyard. It's just about the only good thing this place has. Sadly. They do have a "Michelin rated" restaurant inside the building, curious to see what the service there is. Overall, i would say there are so many other wineries around Valle de Guadalupe that offer better services/food and drinks. read more

This place is located in the Valle de Guadalupe, Baja Mexico. I wasn't always a fan of the wine from this area. But over the last two decades they have made large strides in quality with new modernization techniques. Besides all of the wine makers that have been here for generations, others (Spain, France, and Italy) from around the world have joined in wine making in the area. The area has all of the basic ingredients (proper climate and soil) needed to make great wine. The area sits in the same latitude as the great wine making areas of the Mediterranean. As a result, now I am a big fan of the area's wine. Now many compare the area to Tuscany Italia before the big tourist rush occurred. The greater area is also home to many Michelin rated restaurants with a great ocean/farm to table menu (carta). Organic and sustainability are fully represented in restaurants as well. If you love seafood, then this place is heaven because of the abundance of fresh seafood from both the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific. I predict that once the new airport in Ensenada is built then this place is going to explode with tourism. Currently, having to fly into Tijuana then take a bus or private transport has been the only way to reach this area from most places in the US with the exception of southern California. People in southern California are lucky enough to drive down for a weekend because it's just that close to them. It's the equivalent of people from Chicago spending a weekend in wine country in Michigan, Indiana, or Wisconsin. In all honesty there is no comparison because most wine in the Midwest is mediocre at best. The problem in the Midwest is the climate extremes which are not suitable to most popular wine varietals. Even when I do find wine from the Midwest that I like, it usually has at least $50-$60 price tag. At a typical grocery store in Spain or Portugal very good bottle of wine is sometimes cheaper than a bottle of water! Under $10 a bottle pricing gets you very good wine, above that you can have even better quality. The winery is beautiful even in the winter. I like to visit in the winter because although it's not super warm here, I go from wearing a winter jacket to wearing a light jacket or sweater. The nights can drop into the 40s which is still much better than a winter polar vortex back home. There is a lot less people, therefore, I can also get into the best restaurants in the area. My rental flat had absolutely no neighbors until the last day when it was time to leave. The isolation was very nice because the grounds are beautiful and very full of life. A huge assortment of birds make this their winter getaway from the harsh winters up north. Citrus fruit was in season down here and the neighboring property had an orchard of trees filled with oranges. The property has a few nice pathways to walk after mealtimes. I also enjoyed the outdoor wine tour which explores the different varietals fields with an enthusiastic guide that was quick witted with jokes. The wine pourings that accommodate the tour were delicious and wisely chosen. I also opted to take the wine cave tour right after the outside tour. How was the cave tour? It was disappointing and frustrating. First of all, as I patiently waited to be taken down to the cave from their gift shop area they forgot about me. They have a list of who is supposed to go down and yet they still went down without everyone?!? Finally a cashier notices that I'm just walking around not shopping and asked me if I was waiting for someone. I told him that I was waiting for the cave tour to begin. He got a hold of the tour guide who had already gone down with some of the group and he came up to retrieve us. Those that were already in the cave, already had been served food that was optional to order with the tasting. After several pourings in the previous tour, yes, I was ready to have some food to lessen the impact of more pourings. Also, they had a nice selection of items that would complement the pourings. Somehow, they forgot about me again, and I noticed others were getting a different presentation than I was on the same tour. Okay, now a sense of frustration is overcoming me and I mention the oversights to the guide. He lied to me and told me that the others had a different level of wine tasting. This disorganized tour was also set up backwards because there should have been a walking tour of the fermentation area first then tastings afterwards. Besides the bad cave tour that I definitely don't recommend. Everything else was great with the exception of the cold washroom on cold nights. They have very nice employees, beautiful grounds, very good breakfast, and a great dinner restaurant called Latitude on the property. Would I come back? Yes, because besides a few frustrating moments the rest was great. read more

I returned to give this ace another chance. I tried one white, one Rose and two reds. The white wine was fresh and crisp and had a nice vanilla and guava flavoring. Things I like: 1. Wine is pretty solid 2. It's very pretty and put together 3. Katya (She be holding this place together $$$$) and also kindly man with braces. Things To Note: 1. Automatic upsells at the front- tour was automatically added on but then there was a 30 minute plus wait for this tour that no one asked for 2. Ask how long the wait is at the front for sitting in the cellar- the cellar inside is actually really cool so I do recommend going down there- but waiting at their gift shop at the top is god awful 3. Chocolate pairing was actually pretty solid 4. I don't like their seating areas on the upstairs- for being so put together it's like weird how the vibe was off on seating areas- like no one on the inside wants to be sitting inside a gift shop- and then the outside table area doesn't feel as lux as the place would imply- like I wish they had cabana softer seating instead of like iron chairs read more

It was my first time going to Valle and we decided to visit El Cielo Winery, upon arriving you have the option to buy tasting packages or tour + tasting, we went with the tastings only, the location was very nice, the staff was super friendly and Martin our server made sure we had a great time. My favorite wine was the Rose, I ended up buying 2 bottles at the end since they were so good! we will definitely be coming back (: Thank you Martin for putting up with my friends and I #yumyum read more

Cute hotel! This review is for the accommodations and not so much the food since we didn't eat at the restaurants. The service during our stay and at the wine tasting was pretty great! I would stay here again. Wish I was there longer to explore the grounds. read more
I've heard so many great things about Valle de Guadalupe, so I was excited to celebrate a friends birthday and start off our wine tasting at El Cielo. The tour around was great, it was so beautiful and great to learn all about the wine. If you do the tasting/tour, you get to keep your wine glass. The service was good during the tour and at the restaurant Latitude 32. They have a lot to offer here, it was a great experience. read more

Beautiful property in the middle of Nowhere! Come for the food and the great service! If you know wines, this isn't the place. However, The restaurant exceeded my expectations for the location. The short rib was delicious. There were a few chunks of salt that I was able to scape off and it was perfect with mashed potatoes and carrots. The kids ordered a burger and it was a very thick burger. The meat was about an Inch and half thick! Very meaty! Hubby ordered a steak but did not let me take a picture because "I was too slow." He loved it! Overall, this is a great restaurant for the once in a life time experience. The drive was definitely the reason I won't be returning. It was about 1 hour outside of Rosarito. The prices are pretty close to US prices and the choices of wine we tried were too acidic. The best part of the day was renting the golf carts and driving around the grape vines with kiddos. This was the view from our luxurious suite! If you are looking for a place to unwind El Cielo is the place to be. The property is beautiful, wine delicious, and incredible staff. If you make the trip out to Valle add El Cielo to your list of places to visit. read more

I enjoyed my glass of wine and a cheese plate. I agree with most of reviews that it's overpriced here and feels like a local winery in Temecula or Rancho Bernardo. But, the atmosphere and service is terrific. Everybody is super nice and attentive. We tried white wine from Cielo's maker: dry, but refreshing. Again, the level of service is outstanding: you will be given all guidelines and suggestions what to try and where to go. So this place deserves a 5-star rating. read more
