Had a break down in desert in Mexico and when we tried to get help Neither Baja Mex or provider could find our policy! We had to fully fend for ourselves. Took 4 days to figure out that there was no policy issued. Way to late! Also finally a local supervisor offered us a full pay out but that is not helpful when you are stuck in the desert.. Zero is more accurate for my rating. Please don't come here! This place is a terrible business. Their personnel literally interrogated me over the purchase of a $1.25 money order. I visited this place for the first time to purchase a money order for a payment I was doing at a local business literally next to Baja-Mex. The lady at the window started asking for personal information including my work place and social security number and when I asked her the reason for all these questions, she replied that it was their business policy to ask everyone for information about the person and where they get their money in case of an audit they wanted to make sure it wasn't money laundering proceeds. I was furious that this business was implying that everyone that comes in is a criminal. The lady then told me that if I didn't want to give my personal information she would not sell me the money order. She blatantly asked me where my money came from? This business sells Mexican insurance and they are also a currency exchange shop near the San Ysidro border. IN RESPONSE TO YOUR UNSYMPATHETIC REPLY: i think you are the one who's offended. I can absolutely agree with you on developing an AML Program in compliance with the the Patriot Act of 2005, however, 31 CFR 1010.410(e) and (f) (rules applicable to certain transmittals of funds); and 1022.410 (additional recordkeeping requirement for dealers in foreign exchange) require to create and maintain a record of each exchange of currency in excess of $1,000; the money order I was purchasing was for less ($500). I've been coming regularly to the area for the past five years, and have been parking here for just as long. Normally, I've stopped by here in the evening time, parked my car for a rate of $5, and crossed into Tijuana. Lately, they raised their fee to $20 on weekends, and $6 for weekdays. That still seemed ok to me, considering that waiting in line back into the US via automobile can take hours. The other day, I stopped by here in the daytime. I paid $6 for parking. I then asked to use their restroom, to which they claimed they did not have one open. The son of the owner claimed it was being used for storage. I called them out on it, because I used it less than a week prior. They got rude on me fast, and I threw their attitudes right back at them. I decided to leave, and asked for my money back. They refused to give it back to me. Furthermore, the lady whom I bought the parking from, Mariela (assuming she gave me the right name), refused to give me the manager's contact information. I had to get it from another employee, and I learned the manager's/owner's name is Freddy. Upon me calling her out on her lies, she got further agitated. Clearly she has no concept of customer service. At this point, it was becoming comedy. I decided to leave. Six bucks is nothing to me, and I decided to park elsewhere. A silver lining... The night crew here is awesome. The guard who works here at night is the coolest person you'll ever meet. The staff members who work inside the building at night are pretty cool too. Night staff, please teach the day staff customer service and common sense. Thanks a ton. In response to the business owner and an update: I came back here to park in the late afternoon, and found the staff to be a lot friendlier than the last time. I paid my parking fare at the service window, and parked my car. I noticed that there was security watching the place the entire time, even in the pouring rain that day. That I also appreciate. Years ago my friend's car was stolen in Rosarito and honest to God she was paid out the value of the car within weeks. The only hassle was obtaining the police report from the Rosarito police department so I guess I should spend a few bucks next timw for peace of mind and for coverage. Great company. We mainly use them for Car Insurance for Mexico but we have used them a few times for exchange from Dollars to Pesos. Ignore reviews about currency should be more than just USD and Peso since the business is supply for local demand not much need for another currency. Ignore the review on the parking lot, who cares. It's the busiest exit next to the busiest border crossing port next to an Outlet mall and stores meant for people crossing. Can't fault them on a parking lot when that doesn't reflect their business. They give you free parking for their tiny lot while you are there and plenty of parking in adjacent Outlet lots. Sad to see false reviews that lower the business rankings. We switched from another Auto Insurance provider for Mexico and what a great choice it was. If you ever have an issue you know where to reach them and that you can call anytime. I got full coverage and all you can for my new SUV. Low deductible with a higher estimated value than what I bought the car for. When I had to terminate my year Insurance, which I paid in advance and in full, because I got rid of my car and added a new one. They gave me the difference back for the remaining months of my old car. That's great service and customer loyalty. Only wish they would give a slight discount for yearly renewal for repeat customers but still way cheap compared to USA car insurance and is definitely needed. read more

Say goodbye to potable tap water. Set your taste buds to stun for awesome street tacos. Prepare to see cops in trucks armed with semi-automatic weapons. Before crossing the border to Tijuana though, you should either park your car and walk or buy extended insurance for your vehicle. Baja-Mex insurance on the US side of the border offers both services for a cheap price. They offer drive through services for buying parking passes or insurance, and they don't mind if you walk up to the counter for those services either. Our hero walked up to the drive through window after parking his car, and they didn't make a big fuss about it like a by-the-book McDonald's drive through employee would. It's not the greatest parking lot and it's about a one mile walk to the border, but it's cheap compared to other lots. There's no restricted entry or gate, cameras, or security around, but it's only $5 for parking there until 8 AM the next morning. If you wont freak out about the low level of security in this parking lot relative to other lots near the border, it's a good cheap place to throw your auto while you live it up in TJ. PROS: - Cheap daily parking rates for parking that expires at 8 AM the next day. - Drive through service window available. CONS: - Other than the fact that the spots are numbered, there's not much difference between this lot and the mall parking next door, except that you wont get towed. - Fairly small lot. read more

Given that I only exchanged $50 and I found out that in Tijuana, everywhere takes USD including just restaurants for Locals since all the receipt has USD right below Peso cost. Service was quick through Drive-Thru. There's exchange rate shown outside. Next Day, while driving in TJ, I saw that the rate was about 0.1~2 higher (18.1ish vs 18.0ish) in some currency exchange but for $50 that's not much of a difference. It is right by the freeway entrance which made it easy to hop back on to the freeway. I may use them again, then again Fairfield Hotel in TJ had currency exchange service and everywhere accepts USD. read more

Their exchange rate is better than what TravelEx, BofA, and Wells Fargo offer - and with no fees, and no wait. If you want to stand in a long line, there is a slightly better rate near the trolley stop but there is no parking, so if you are driving (especially into Mexico) this is probably the fastest, easiest, and least hassle free place to convert US Dollars into Mexican Pesos and/or get Mexican insurance if you need it. read more

How do you claim to be a legit currency exchange when all you exchange is pesos? I'm in the military and tried to exchange bahraini money for USD and was told "sorry, only USD and pesos." This IS a military town after all, you might want to think about being useful to everyone and not just cater to your people only. Military personnel visit other countries and may come back with pretty much any type of currency and if you claim to be a legit currency exchange you better be able to change whatever i have on me. Baja-Mex insurance services, Inc. GNP(Grupo National Provincial). In May 2018 I traveled to Ensenada to participate in the annual Rosarito/Ensenada Bike Race. As is my custom for many years, I brought Mexican Insurance from GNP(Baja-Mex Ins) in San Ysidro, Ca. just before crossing the Border. They have reasonable rates for money exchange and auto insurance. I brought full coverage for many years. GREAT SERVICE UNTIL I MADE A CLAIM! When leaving my friends I did not secure my 5th wheel trailer and the trailer slipped off of the hitch damaging my truck, the trailer and corner of my friends house. I made a claim to the Ensenada representative for the damage to the trailer, truck and home of my friend. She sent me to a repair shop in San Diego for an estimate. The shop said they did not do estimates for trailers. I than returned my home in Northern California and secured an estimate of $1,500.04 to repair the trailer from California Camper Repair Inc. After months of correspondence they sent me a check for $189.86 ($686.86 less the $500 deducible) and said it was for the truck and trailer. My friend was given a contact in Ensenada to fix the minor damage to his house. About $100 US dollars. They tell him its coming, so is Christmas! read more
