Carbonara with Pancetta
Tony B.

At first my dad was reluctant to eat there, but I wanted to because of the great reviews. Located a quaint plaza off the beaten path. Located with a few other restaurants a cute draft house with DJs playing decent house music. The owner/manager wasn't too pushy and was very attentive. Extremely nice service from Andrea, who was funny and not to invasive at the same time. I had te carbonates pancreas, my mom had the pappardelle with beef ad duck fat, my dad had the monthly special which was spaghetti and clams. He was quite impressed with his dish, which is a lot cuz he's quite the complainer. It was delicious with perfect touches of butter and garlic with the clans. My carbonara was the best ive ever had. Beautiful sunset temperatures and open till midnight. Will be back for sure. Go there but don't expect any generic red sauces.

la Carbonara. Excellent.

This is just the sort of place I like to discover while traveling. The interior is beautiful--good gentle lighting, background music, comfortable seating, and the location on the lively Campo S Margherita is convenient. The service was friendly and professional, the menu was tempting, and the prices very reasonable considering the quality of everything. Even the bread basket she brought was unusually good, but I didn't put much of a dent in it because my entree was so delicious. I ordered the Carbonara. I've tasted a frozen versions of this dish, in Italy and the US, but this was my favorite so far. The description read "traditional carbonara with pork cheek lard and pecorino cheese." Lard didn't sound appealing but I had a feeling it was a translation issue , and no lard was to be found in this dish. The noodles were perfectly Al Dente, the pork cheek crispy, the cheese level just right. The sauce was a miracle--beautifully firm with excellent texture, which I have found impossible to do at home. I did not lick my plate clean, which took some discipline (and a bit of the good bread). Venice is full of restaurants, but I'm seriously thinking of going back tomorrow to try the Bigoli!

Ricotta and spinach ravioli with aubergines, tomato and smoked ricotta

Very nice contemporary restaurant / bar. First meal in Italy (starting trip in Venice) and was not disappointed. Very late 10 pm+ and apparently the most rain Venice has received in quite some time in one day. Restaurant had only a few couples by the time we entered at 10:15ish. Still, the service was wonderful and we settled on two items (we ate whatever was on the airline - nothing great but long flight). She had Squids sautéed with pumpkin cream and toasted almonds (2nd course). Recommended by waiter. She loved how easy to eat the squid was, not chewy at all. I had a bite - typically don't care for squid (calamari okay) but it was great. I had Ricotta and spinach ravioli with aubergines, tomato and smoked ricotta (first dish). Very nice and deceiving in terms of size. I usually don't get non-protein dishes but the ricotta made this dish and the spinach was not overbearing. The spritz we ordered were tasty. Would come again and recommend. Not old school but good to mix it up. Old and new - keeps the palate on its toes and looking forward to what's next.

Caprese and mussels

My family dined here because we saw plentiful high reviews. It is a great place to sit in the plaza with nice views. We started out with the caprese salad and steamed mussels, which were great! However, the quality and taste of food of our main dishes did not match that level. The main dishes were all very salty and the traditional carbonara straight up tasted like Mac and cheese. It was also so al dente to the point where it still felt very raw. I think many places in Venice are tourist traps and fear this may be one. The food was edible, but there are definitely better places you can go to get a meal.

Yelpers never let me down...The most delicious food so far on our trip! We started with soup, which could have been a whole meal, but being the overachievers that we are, we trudged on. My soup was a bean purée (called Fagiole), with radicchio and I hunduck. My husband had Leek Potato soup and loved it. Our second course were first courses ( confused with how much you can actually eat with all these courses), pasta dishes that were nothing short of spectacular. My husband had the bolognese and I had thick pasta with anchovies. It appears the pastas were fresh and I felt like Lady and the Tramp, wanting to share the dishes. My husband was not having it, lol. We shared rare tuna over a salad, that included orange wedges and greens. Perfectly made and presented. He only thing that marred he evening and why I only gave it four stars was the waiter. I felt like he wasn't very welcoming. Perhaps it was a language barrier. They other staff were very gracious, and we were welcomed despite not having a reservation at this busy rest. Kudos to the chef for a spectacular dinner experience.

Incredible food, amazing ambience. Best meal we had in Venice. I loved the little square it had such a great sense of community. Service was also impeccable.

Beef cheeks

This place is perfection! For our first meal in Venice we made the right choice! The house white wine was great, bright and flavorful but not sweet. We started with the pumpkin flan which was AMAZING!! It might be seasonal but is a must try if you can. Then we had the spinach and ricotta ravioli and the beef cheeks which were both specialties. I can't rave enough about the beef cheeks. They fell apart and were juicy and full of flavor without being too rich. Highly recommend this quaint little place!

Maybe he was having an off night. He asked what we wanted to try. He'd pour a tasting and then roll his eyes and wander off, bring his friends their charged phones from the back, and then just look at us. Such a shame, we had hoped for a better experience. We found many other places in this area that we loved and enjoyed their wine. Such a cool hip local area.

We do love Cicchetti and some bar-hopping. And this is a new place we've discovered this time…read morearound in Venice. Location is very nice, right at a pretty trendy canal, filled with lots of restaurants and bars. Right next to is an excellent gelato place. It's quite small inside with few tables, many just hang around outside - and why not, the location at the canale is a pretty spot. We did manage though to get some seats inside. Our Bulldog was very welcome here as well. The various cicchetti are presented at the counter. There are some classics of course, but also some very innovative creations. We went for the latter. There was gorgonzola with strawberry, radicchio with brie cheese, pesto topped with an anchovie and mushrooms, mashed fava beans with pulp and mashed fava with goats cheese and a cherry. All really wonderful combinations. Our favorite were the radicchio and the fava/goat cheese. Surely something to recreate back home. Staff was very friendly, we felt very welcome here. And instead of focussing on Aperol, Select and Prosecco, it's mostly about white and red wine here. And they have an excellent selection of wine. Not all cheap, but definitely worth the money. We especially loved the Pinot Nero "Terre di Giotto". A brillant cicchetti bar. Definitely a place we come back to next time in Venice.
