    Al fresco by the canal

Came in for lunch and was advised this is a locals place. We sat outside along the water canal since it was such a beautiful day and started off with yummy bread and the red house wine. For starters I ordered the Fried scampi marinated with red onion, pine nuts and topped on polenta - divine! Next course home made pappardelle with chicken and lastly duck breast with wine sauce & figs. Both entrees were so delicious and fresh tasting. The service here by our waitress was outstanding and this was definitely one of the better meals we enjoyed in Venezia! I just wish I had room for dessert.

We were in town filming a fashion segment when the owner of the factory recommended this wonderful restaurant to us. But we had a dilemma, it was the England Croatia World Cup semi final and our reservation overlapped...but they were kind and accommodated and sat us in a table by the water with a view of the game from the bar next door. Haha sure not the romantic vision of a night in Venice but once England lost the party started. We took their advice and ordered four starters, a burrata dish and a polenta with octopus. Amazing. Then we went for the giant sea bass served with potatoes and some veggies and it was delightful, our sommelier, who also watched the game with us, (he was part Croatian) treated us to some magical natural Italian wine. They were insanely good. Trust him. He knows. We then ordered all their desserts, the tiramisu def wins. Love this place, locals swear by it and for a dinner for four with two bottles of wine it came out to less than 400 euros...come on! what a deal!

Our final meal in Venice was quite eventful. We had been searching for this place for four days! After getting very lost--which we highly recommend doing in Venice--we found a friendly soul who had a map which eventually led us to Ostaria da Rioba. So after going over several bridges, staying straight and making a few lefts, we managed to accidentally find Da Rioba and it was worth all the drama. Here is what we ate: PRIMI PIATTI Pumpkin Ravioli This was the "Ravioli of the Day". It was delicious. SECONDI PIATTI We were a little over pasta--we never thought this was possible--so we decided to go with the land and sea options. Sea Bass Goodness, this was so good and fresh. It was so refreshing to eat something from the sea. Lamb Chops Initially I was very confused about this "local" lamb since I hadn't seen a single blade of grass in Venice during my four days there but I was assured there is a mainland which has plenty of lamb and other animals. Regardless of where the lamb actually came from, it was phenomenal! I ate every single piece down to the bone--no shame. DOLCI Almond Cake We were really excited about this selection on the menu because we thought it might be like the awesome almond cake we got in Montreal. Unfortunately it wasn't the $250 Almond Cake but it was still very good. I am glad we stumbled upon Ostaria da Rioba on our last night in Venice. Venice has been very good to us. Every meal was quite enjoyable. We will definitely come back.

Our last meal in Venice was fantastic! The quality of the food surpassed our expectations, and the service was terrific! Our waiter was Alex (his "English" version, of course), who attended to us incredibly! He suggested a wine that was delicious and when we had the 6 course tasting menu, he paced each course perfectly! While a bit pricey, this was worth every cent!

This restaurant is wonderful! The wine selection, service, and food options were all excellent. We ordered a scallops appetizer, 2 pasta dishes, and dessert. Next time we'll order the tasting menu, it looked awesome. Overall, we had a lovely evening in a beautiful canal-adjacent setting.

A Bavarian desert of pistachio, chocolate crumble, sea salt, honey. Delicious

Ate at this restaurant three times during my latest holiday in Venice. It's off the beaten path, in Cannaregio, close to Madonna Dell'Orto church, in an area that's less touristy. Both food and service and were great, attentive staff knew perfectly well when to give me space and when to show up. During one of my visits, the restaurant was fully occupied but the staff still did their best to cater to all my needs. When in doubt, ask for a recommendation and trust staff's opinion.

Good location and service. Food is good but does not quite match the price.

Maybe he was having an off night. He asked what we wanted to try. He'd pour a tasting and then roll his eyes and wander off, bring his friends their charged phones from the back, and then just look at us. Such a shame, we had hoped for a better experience. We found many other places in this area that we loved and enjoyed their wine. Such a cool hip local area.

Location is very nice, right at a pretty trendy canal, filled with lots of restaurants and bars. Right next to is an excellent gelato place. It's quite small inside with few tables, many just hang around outside - and why not, the location at the canale is a pretty spot. We did manage though to get some seats inside. Our Bulldog was very welcome here as well. The various cicchetti are presented at the counter. There are some classics of course, but also some very innovative creations. We went for the latter. There was gorgonzola with strawberry, radicchio with brie cheese, pesto topped with an anchovie and mushrooms, mashed fava beans with pulp and mashed fava with goats cheese and a cherry. All really wonderful combinations. Our favorite were the radicchio and the fava/goat cheese. Surely something to recreate back home. Staff was very friendly, we felt very welcome here. And instead of focussing on Aperol, Select and Prosecco, it's mostly about white and red wine here. And they have an excellent selection of wine. Not all cheap, but definitely worth the money. We especially loved the Pinot Nero "Terre di Giotto". A brillant cicchetti bar. Definitely a place we come back to next time in Venice.
