I came across their apple cider donuts at a stand set up on Barre town common during some craft fair. I could not believe how good they were. I told the owner, Elena, that I was recently in Italy and Paris and had some incredible pastries, and her donuts are worthy of a Michelin star. I've made apple cider donuts from an old Yankee magazine recipe, and they were terrific, but these are on a level almost beyond comprehension. Great pastries. I've been here a few times to grab a snack and on a few occasions ended up going back to the counter to get more or try more items. Staff seems nice, owner seems creative with the treats. If you like sweets of the flour, butter and real sugar variety, chances are pretty good that you can find quite a few things here to enjoy. This place is amazing! Just moved to Rutland and it really elevates the cake, goodies and pastry game in town. Went on opening day with family and kids. Coffee was awesome! I am so glad I went with Baked for my moms 50th birthday and brother-in-law's graduation party! The cakes looked great and tasted even better! They offer so many different combinations/options for the flavor of your cake. I have so much confidence that they can do any type of cake I need. Elena was so responsive and helpful when emailing with me about the details of the cakes requested. One of the cakes I got we did a vanilla cake with strawberry filling and coconut buttercream, and my boyfriend picked it up for me and immediately called me to say "this is the best smelling cake ever and it looks incredible". After a last minute order last year that turned out spectacular, we ordered another birthday cake this year (and many family orders in between). But that is saying things lightly. I live in Boston and have very high expectations (not to sound like a snob, but I am). Elena is a diamond in the rough (not to call Rutland a rough, but you get it) She is a top notch chef making gems in a small town. This years cake outdid it all, it was the most beautiful, but also best tasting cake I have ever had. The frosting was perfect, not too sweet. The cake was extremely perfect chocolate, and throughout was the more amazing perfectly consistent raspberry heaven. When other bakers near me said they were too nervous to make black frosting or gold would get everywhere, Elena created perfection that did not cause any issues with smearing or face decorating. I ordered a two tier fondant birthday cake and couldn't decide if I wanted pistachio or almond, so Elena made one of each. It was so beautiful and so delicious. It looked like a wedding cake (exactly what I wanted). Everyone loved it! Baked made the cake for my daughter's wedding. Three layers of goodness! Elena is very accommodating! We did a tasting and I knew immediately this is the place for us. The cake had 3 layers: choc/caramel; choc/canolli; white/raspberry. All very delicious! Her prices are fabulous and she makes all of her own fillings (which many bakeries don't do these days). I've been a customer of Elena's and her bakery, Baked, for several years now. A couple of years ago she did the cake pops for our wedding, and they were AMAZING! Such a huge hit, everyone kept asking us where they could get some of their own. Over the years, I've stopped in to pick up baked goods like pastries and muffins and they are always delicious. Her coffee is very good too and her acai bowls are incredible! We've also enjoyed her donuts and other treats like cookies and cannolis at holiday gatherings as well, and it's always a treat.
