From the first initial consultation, I was reassured that I would get the best quality of care I walked in with chronic upper and lower spine pain and I was mildly depressed because of it. with each initial visit, I came out feeling stronger and better after a year&3 and a half months of intense care,maintenance care I am pain-free and I am no longer depressed. I love the entire staff at Baker Family Chiropractic. The doctors are very knowledgeable and skilled at what they do. I walk with a lot of dogs by day and take self defense classes at night. This means that adjustments are crucial to my recovery. They answer all of my questions, especially when I want to know how to strengthen a certain spot so that I can prevent another injury. They are open to me going more times in the week if I need it and the front desk will make a personal call if they haven't seen me in a couple of weeks. Lobby, restrooms, and offices are all clean and with the new flooring it looks so open and fresh! Add their smiles and greetings when you come in and you will already feel like you can stand taller (not hunched over in pain). I highly recommend going to Baker Family Chiropractic. Came here from a Groupon and I was very satisfied with my visits throughout. Both Shannon and Megan were super nice to me at the front desk each time I came in, and the doctors were helpful in having me understand what's going on in my back. They take time to listen and really value their guests. The only downside is the extraordinarily high price per adjustment, $75. If they had accepted my insurance here, I would been willing to schedule that next adjustment without hesitation. Anyway, they'll make your visit worthwhile! read more

This place cares more about selling you a plan then helping you. The chiropractors were polite but the white front desk girl with glasses was pushy on getting me to pay for the plan the chiropractor recommended which seemed to be the same plan everyone else in the reviews here was offered 3x a week for a few months and they wanted almost $3000! I said it wouldn't work with my schedule and coming in once or twice would be more reasonable but the front desk girl said "it would be pointless" since the Chiropractor recommended 3x . And now the parking lot is about 1/4 full most the time - which tells you something! Service has gone downhill. Overpriced for a "snap, crackle, pop". I felt like my needs for pain were never taken seriously. The entire building needs a facelift. Bad paint job inside and out, terrible parking lot and location, homeless folk sitting in parking lot, and just recently the waiting room always smells like fruit has gone bad and floors, bathrooms, and tables are filthy. Looks like they've cut back on costs to keep the lights running. Hopefully things turn around for the best for this company! read more

I've been going to Baker Chiropractic for about nine months now. My first three months were part of the corrective-care plan, and now I go once a week. What got me in there was a Groupon deal, which seemed incredibly cheap. I was in a bad car accident back in 2005, and I never got any proper care for my back except for massages here and there. Turns out I already had scoliosis and the accident made my back much worse. Back pain that turned into knee and feet pain, and even headaches ! I feel it's sometimes hard finding a doctor with your best interests in mind, but I honestly feel that the three doctors at BC are genuinely good people, and are good at what they do ! After my three months we did some more X-rays and I was blown away at the progress we made. Chiropractic work is not cheap- but it is worth it ! I'm happy to be a customer of theirs. Warning : they do not want to deal with medical insurance. not sure why but they will not tell you this till they have their hooks on your wallet. I called in and they said yes come on in for a consultation absolutely free. I show up hand them my medical card they say don't need this. I asked well does my ins. cover you facility, the doctor will go through that with you. meet doctor brushed the question off. exact words we will talk about that later. needless to say I paid to have xrays and consultation after they said it was free. then they want me to commit to a ridiculous schedule that they want me to pay 100% because it's for my health and I can't put a price on that. needless to say they got cash I got a lame ass adjustment that ended up hurting more than the discomfort I went in for. I called them to follow up on insurance and they said they will call and find out. now 1 1/2 months later and no call back. What others have said is true - they try to get you to commit to $3,000 worth of treatment at your second appointment. They also make you watch videos about why it's essential to come to commit to coming 3x a week for several months. I'm a big bastard, ex-college football player, ex-bodybuilder, ex-bouncer, and did 11 years in the ICU as an RN. Naturally, my back is fkn trashed, and has been for the last 15 years. I seem to be ex-everything and currently broken and busted. My triathlons these days are my couch, The Walking Dead and a bucket of chicken that I dive into and eat my way out of. After many MRIs, CAT-scans and medications, the best Western Medicine ever did for me was pump me full of drugs that, lets be honest here, feel fkn awesome for a while but suck long-term. Surgeons have been trying for decades to slice open my back, but being an RN I know the horror stories and recidivism rates of back surgery. So 2+ years ago I moved to Modesto from NY. Since I drove here, my back was screaming like a howler monkey on Acid when I arrived. Pills helped, but I made the decision to get off all prescription pain pills before I turned into another Modesto bike bum sleeping in Graceda park. I had used Chiropractors in the past with decent success, and given the abject failure of Western medicine to offer me anything resembling relief, I had nothing to lose. Like many others, I had a coupon to go to Baker. Admittedly, the initial treatment is not cheap. However, how much is relief worth to you? Many health plans cover a decent portion of the initial treatment, which usually lasts 3-4 months. Well the litmus test of medical effectiveness is Empirical Evidence. Or, in other words, how well does this shit work? How does the patient feel? 2 years later I feel better than I have in over a decade. I am on maintenance now which averages about 130$/month. Being a rich white guy this is a very good price. I take no drugs other than Aleve and Advil as needed and supplement my therapy with massage. (which I have reviewed elsewhere) I also use moist heat and stretch regularly. One of the best things are the people at Baker. It really is a small family with great doctors. I see all of the 4 doctors in the practice, as they each have their own style. I actually see Dr. Baker the least, but this is due to his hours and not my choice. However, his staff of 3 Chiropractors are outstanding. They are extremely receptive to patient guidance and are not offended or affronted by telling them "we need to change this up, it's no longer working". By working with your doctor you will get the best results. Come armed with questions and suggestions. Each Doctor has a slightly different style, and each are effective in their own way. Obviously as stated the staff at Baker are awesome led by Candace the office manager. She remembers everyone's name and puts up with my severely twisted sense of humor with a smile. (and hurries me into a room, lest I scare off any "normal" people) The girls that work the desk...Candace, Megan, Jo-jo and Ashley are all very courteous, professional and cheery. They schedule whenever you need, and will see you without question if you have an emergency. I think some of the negative reviews are the result of people looking for instant relief or are unfamiliar with how chiropractic works. But it is possible that this place isn't for you. All I can tell you is how I feel, this is fkn pretty much pain free and not a pill-addicted, drooling zombie. The only caveat is that I wished they implemented electrostim/moist heat into their treatment, but that is a therapeutic choice and not a deal-breaker. I'm not going to dispute any negative reviews, but all I can say is that I am quite certain that Baker Chiropractic made the difference for me between a decent life and a slow, pill-induced painful downward spiral into certain madness, degradation, and ritualistic self abuse. read more

This place is an absolute rip off. The people who work here are kind and attentive, but their business practice is straight shady. If you have been in an auto accident I do not recommend going here. All they do is crack your back for approximately $60/$70 a visit. And for someone who had severe whiplash and nerve damage they made my problems worse because all they did was crack my back and expected me to stick around for two months. They are super pushy about you paying and only using their lawyers. It doesn't matter if you have not settled your claim with insurance; they want their money and they want it when they want it. If my boyfriend wouldn't have gotten us our own lawyer we would've had to pay almost $7,000 out of pocket for the both of us and continue living life with a fucked up backs. Also, our lawyer amongst a few others in town want nothing to do with these people. Its nothing but constant bullshit from them. And to top everything off, these people lie directly to your face. They tell you one thing and then they tell you the total opposite. And be aware for miss joelyn or however you spell her name; she is the worst of the front desk girls. She lies to you, treats you like a child, puts words in your mouth, AND STEALS YOUR PAPERWORK. My boyfriend almost yelled at her over the phone cause she continued to lie to us, and said that she wouldn't send us to collections since in her words "are so special." She is the rudest person i have had to deal with since the accident. So all in all, if you want to waste money for half ass treatment then be my guest, but if you want the treatment you deserve (back cracking, massage therapy, and physical therapy) for over half the price go elsewhere. I met a doctor and "Valerie" (whom I now think was a consultant and doesn't actually work there) at a community event and hey convinced me that for $20 I could come in with my child and receive a complete evaluation and 1st adjustment. The whole experience including two long appointment was a long drawn out sales pitch. Slightly more fun than visiting a used car lot. I felt the doctors are probably good people but I hate the way they do business. It felt so fake, played out and uncomfortable. I don't want to play games when it comes to the health of me and my family. They never actually evaluated or treated my child despite my reminders but continued to use it as a sales pitch. That was my main reason for stopping at the both. I should have known better when my people loving child wouldn't let them evaluate him- he knew better much before I did. Anyway, I'm not willing to commit upfront to thousands of dollars for chiropractic care when I have no symptoms. I hate these offices who make you pay for a plan upfront. I will stay for life when I find a place I am comfortable. They obviously can't do that if they must use this tactic. I wish I had never wasted my time. All around uncomfortable and pushy. Being bucked off a horse 15 years ago, I did quite a bit of damage and just lived with it. Most Chiropractors that I went to were unable to adjust my neck or my back without hurting me. Dr. Brian Herline has the most gentle hands, he takes time to listen how you are feeling. He is patient, kind and very caring. The staff is incredible, uplifting and friendly. I go in at different times of the day and they just accept me and never complain, "you missed your appt. we won't be able to see you now" kind of attitude. Im 27, I have osteoartheritis in my L1, L2, and L3 and now my hips. IM 27! I have been to the Dr for the past year to treat this and so far he has managed to refer me out to a rheumatoid specialist, a physical therapist, and now an orthopedic sergeon. So far no one has had the ability to sit down with me, understand my pain, and look me in the face and give me a solution. Just pills to manage the pain.... So far Dr Baker is the only person who sat down with me, understood my fear and pain, and told me what he could do for me. No referral. Just acknowledgement and accountability. You get evaluations after every month, so if there is no change, you tell them, they will fix it. This man told me every symptom I had with out me telling him what was wrong. He looked at my x rays and told me my symptoms. He knows what he is doing. Im thankful they take x rays... I have had Drs try and adjust me with no x rays... how do they know whats wrong with out looking. As far as price. Yes absolutely its expensive and they are pushy and not clear enough with the financing program (they should be more upfront with it being a credit card with a credit check), but its a business. No matter how much you love and believe in what you do if you arent being paid you wouldnt do it. I feel like I could co pay $40 somewhere else but not with the same standard of care. He is Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus and the other chiropractors are Ross and DDs discount. I have accepted the fact that feeling better and being able to stand up and walk and sleep with out pain will come with a price. I have been receiving chiropractic care at BFC for roughly a year now and I've experienced a drastic reduction in my pain level! I was miserable living a life filled with constant pain! I chose... Nay, "my wife" chose to make an investment in my health and wellness and it was worth it! The result being that I am able to work again and she is able to tolerate me much more! So in essence, BFC has changed my life from constant pain and misery to a life that I can now enjoy with significant pain reduction. A lot of times I don't hurt at all anymore. I've had better adjustments from my 8 year old son. First visit was x-rays, watch their video, then less than a minute of cracking my back. Second visit was watch another video guilting you into not going against their recommendations, analysis of x-rays, then the 'plan' to get me to 100% at $2000 to come in 3x/week for 8 weeks. I said no thanks, would just prefer an adjustment on occasion and so we go do adjustment and it's another less than a minute of cracking my back and my neck. My Fiance got me a Groupon for Mother's Day that included exam, X-rays, and 4 adjustments. Which was supposed to be a $600+ value. But when they did their forced discount speel said it was only $300 off. Then everytime I came in after the 1st adjustment they had some girl come in asking for $3008 for 46 adjustments. We kept saying no but they would still send her in before adjusting me. Which was super uncomfortable and pushy. They're very gimmicky, pushy, and FAKE sincere. We opted to pay $1003 for now to try and help my neck,back, and hips after having my son. But had to back out early because I need to have an infected tooth pulled. They did not refund us the full amount. Minused the discount they pretty much forced us to take in the first place. Adjustments were at the most 3-5 minutes long and you're out. For paying $65-$75 per visit was very uncomfortableconsidering how short they were. And how little they focused on my problem areas. Payed almost 800 for not even a total of an hour of their time! Please don't waste your time or money and do your research this is not the place to get Chiropractic care! This review is solely on there service skills not their chiropractic skills..... So I bought this groupon which allowed me 4 adjustments for the price of $49, not a bad deal. I made my 1st appt and the staff were extremely nice. After watching the video and the X-rays, i made my 2nd appt so the dr. could go over his findings. I agreed with the dr. and was pretty much set on returning way past my groupon deal. Well during that second visit after the adjustment i was then greeted by the closer, or the person who signs you up to keep coming back for "treatment" Of course the price for my "treatment" was mind blowing... I just wanted time to process it all and not make and rush decisions. So as i told her this she was still trying to pressure me into paying for it all up front.... I simple told her i need some time to think. So she finished up with her paperwork by asking me questions as far as my address, dob, ssn#, all of which i thought was for my personal file. She then left the room and comes back 5min later to tell me that i was approve for credit... I was like what the F@#&... I was like i dont recall giving you permission to run my credit. She had this shocked look on here face and was like " I thought you said it was ok" I proceed to tell he i never gave her the authority. In a panic she asked if i could sign this paper. I knew what she was trying to do, she wanted me to sign off on the fact that she ran my credit with my authority by having me sign that paper. I signed only cause i wasn't going to pursue legal action. That was never my intent. That whole process left a negative vibe and even thought the dr. gave me one of the best adjustments in my life, i refuse to give my patronage to a business who does shady things like that. Baker Family Chiro.- Ugh!! The worst! Yeah, it seems sooo great at first, but you soon realize he's just a "cookie cutter routine". VERY expensive. VERY fast. & he makes you COMMIT to months & months of care or no deal. And when I found out he had an affair on his dear wife, I liked him even less....I think he remarried his mistress... ugh... ;-( So many chiros have their own technique. Some hurt you further; some are too gentle to do any good for me; & hey- every one needs something different. I've had an especially hard time finding someone who could adjust my neck adequately. Dr. Dooley can do it!! I've been to Dr. Rick Taylor. He's my VERY fave, but he's usually out with migraines, so is rarely available anymore, (& only $20/ visit- no xrays needed).....so Dr. Dooley is the next best. Dr. Dooley is a whopping $45 though too, and before you can begin you're "forced" to go through a long 1/2-1 hr session with his wife, & be her student. It's REALLY annoying, especially after have been going ALL over town for months & yrs looking for a chiro, & after being in so much pain & you JUST want RELIEF & you want & NEED that relief NOW!!!... but no... you have to have the class & the consultation first. So the costliness & the forced class is my peeve about this place, but I will say I can't get any adjustment like his. Where have I been? Well, like I said: Dr. Rick Taylor- Still open, but rarely available, on Coffee Rd $20 my VERY fave! -Been going to Rick for nearly 20 yrs!! Dr. Morris- Never really helped my neck. I always felt like it felt worse after. I gave him several tries. Friendly husband & wife team but he tries at conversation a bit too hard. It can be uncomfortable. Dr. Turley in Oakdale: very friendly, professional, caring, helpful, but way too gentle for my needs. -Teaches you helpful stretches too! :-) Dr. Joy @ Modesto Chiro on Carver Rd. Way too gentle to be effective for me. He did really seem caring, thorough, & professional though. Dr. Robin Hinchman on McHenry Ave. Verrrrry friendly lady, very affordable, but again, didn't help me much... I continued to be in pain even after several adjustments. She does neck adjustments by stretching your head across her arm... pretty freaky. Hill Chiropractic: UGh! What a nightmare!! NEVER see Dr. HILL!! He REALLY hurt me the most!! When Dr. Bell was there (& still alive), he was great, but Dr. Hill hurt me the most of all chiros have. His adjustments are horrible!! And he said I had a hairline fracture in my spine which another doctor told me "NO you don't! That's just a hair on the xray! He just wants your $$." Beech Chiro in Turlock- Some really love him, but I don't. I find him to be another "cookie cutter" type chiro dr. Very expensive & the adjustments are so-so. There was another doc I'd seen while pregnant in 99. It was McMillan, or McDaniel or Morris or some last name with M- 2 syllables; on McHenry or Coffee, behind a bread store.... I remember he was cheap & affordable but he made comments that made me feel very uncomfortable, along with the nude art on the wall... ??!??!? And another doc, that did his adjustments by having you sit straddled over a bench, and then him straddled behind you & your hands crossed over your chest... NOT fun... VERY uncomfortable. ANd both these guys, liked to make sounds like "MMMmmm!! Didn't that feel good!!???" Really freaked me out. So you see??? I've had lots of experience with chiros in the last 20 yrs!! These are the opinions of one that needs more moderate adjustments... not rough & aggressive, but not too gentle either; especially in need of good neck adjustments. read more

He made us watch a video and then when he was explaining the treatment and X-ray. The entire time he was talking about how it would cure his lower back pain and chronic headaches....... my boyfriend then told him that he was there for his shoulder. I have been a patient of Dr. Herline's for over 5 years. This office is amazing, the staff is always professional and friendly. This office provides an alternative type of chiropractic care that is different from what is considered traditional. This office believes in ongoing care which means they want to see you often and not just when you get to the point where you are in pain. They want to prevent the pain before it starts. We spend so much time and money on things, can you really put a price on being pain free? I love the fact that I can just pop in when ever I need to for an adjustment. The over perky receptionist told me they took our insurance so I sent my bf in for his back pain he had to pay $350 upfront then they wanted thousands upfront to continue treatment. He really liked the office until a lady went in the room and it turned into a car dealership pitching different payment plans. Why would we need that when our insurance covers 20 visits per year with a copay. I work in the medical field and knew this was a huge scam. Needless to say they never billed our insurance and we never got reimbursed. NEVER use this place. A friend was telling me about a horrible experience she had as a customer here recently, and it reminded me of a bad experience I had with Baker Family Chiropractic as a prospective employee. This was years ago, but I've been told the environment is very much the same. It started with a room full of about 25 women all interviewing for one job. I made it to the "Final Round" of interviews, where I was put in a very uncomfortable situation. All of their employees were on the panel, and most of the scripted questions each one asked were fine. However, when it came down to the main guy leading the interview, he very obviously went off script and started asking really personal questions. How old are you? Are you married? In a relationship? He then pointed to a pregnant employee and asked if that's something I wanted to do. (Um, get pregnant? What?) He kept looking me up and down. Some of the other panel members seemed to be just as uncomfortable as I was. Ultimately, I did not get the job offer & wouldn't have accepted if I did. As a respected Human Resources professional today, I wish I would have stood up for myself at the time and told them were being very inappropriate and unprofessional - Quite frankly acting AGAINST THE LAW (pertaining to age). It's insane how wrong they were, and unfortunately, as a young 21 year old at the time, I didn't have the courage to react properly. I now train management teams every day how to properly conduct interviews, and I often use this experience as something NOT TO DO. read more

This entire staff is outstanding. They are the kindest people I've ever encountered in any doctor's office. For the care you get I feel the money is well worth it. Sure he wants you to come 3 days a week but they provide a monthly rate that comes out to cheaper than those shady walk in and crack your back for $20. Dr. Herline and his staff are amazing! I never knew how great I could feel on a daily basis until finding the Baker Family.

I must clarify: I based my comments about Jojo (who does the money discussion with new people) after reading all the other Yelp reviews. I agreed that she does come off as fakey and it is irritating when you hear insurance will cover/ reimburse you for services and then find out after long months of waiting that it is not necessarily the case. I was not reimbursed as my coverage limits 20 chiropractic visits per yer and my deductible was met without reimbursement for further visits. I do wish that instead of being told I would get a reimbursement that it was made clear it is not always the case. At one point I asked several times about insurance billing and was reassured it had taken place and that, "it's been 3 months so in the next week you should look for a check in the mail" Only to find out my deductible had been met and I would not be receiving any reimbursement. Does jojo's statements mean I would not use Baker Family? No. The service and the outcomes are all that I need - FANTASTIC service by Dr. Ferrel And Dr. Spencer!! Dr. spencer got me through my initial fear of cervical adjustments by taking into consideration my fears and slowly moving me through the process. Without Dr. Spencer's precision and techniques I may have been scared away from pursuing chiropractic from my healing. Take into consideration that money can buy relief and know that if you feel Pressured for signing up for any services you can take your time and come back another day to sign up...Jojo may put on pressure but it is a business...and results are what you are there for anyway and the doctors at Baker do give results!! read more
