Coming from Annapolis and feeling spoiled with Carlson's donuts - I was on the look out for a home in the wall, pump your own coffee, warm fresh baked delicious donut shoppe. I found it. Short of 5 stars only because it isn't Carlsons and I'm a homer. Delicious apple fritter 5/5. I will for sure be back. Friendly local staff willing to chat if there isn't a line. My recommendation is to come early before the fritters go and get yours fresh and warm. Accompany with a side of coffee from the hand pump dispenser and be on your way. Almost every time I am in the area I will stop by for an apple fritter - the buttery, sweet, dense, deliciousness that they are! The staff has always been very kind, and they usually have some goodies sitting in the back if the cases seem a bit empty! The prices are great for what you are getting, so no complaints there. A fairly mixed variety of donuts, so everyone should be able to find a little something that they like. I can't believe that I've lived in the community for over a decade and never knew about Baker's Dozen! I had even been to that Buck Jones shopping center many times, but never paid any attention to the place. Well, if you are looking for great donuts, look no further! Baker's Dozen is a humble little place, but their donuts are wonderful and pricing is fair. I wonder what will happen to the shop when South Hills shopping center is torn down by the new owners? I must've tried all the wrong things before because after going when their ENTIRE selection was available this time around, I can say that they have some tasty donuts to offer! Do you like apple fritters? I typically don't because they can taste too much like apple pies which don't appeal to me all too much. But their apple fritters are amazing! The crust is crisp from the sugary icing/fried dough and the inside is moist and juicy from the apple/sauce/whatever else they put in it. Seriously, your sweet tooth is missing out if you haven't tried it! Their cinnamon sugared donut was tasty as well. It had a nice cake-like texture and generous topping! Their yeast donuts are also great- definitely love the airy/fluffy interior they have~ My only criticism is that they don't come out piping hot but that's why I have a microwave! You have to understand, donuts are like my kryptonite...I succumb to them without fail. When hearing of this new donut shop in the area, I had to go see about this place and test out the goods. Popping in on Baker's Dozen Donuts the past couple of weekends, I have not been disappointed. The shop has a good sized glass display case full of plain, glazed, covered, cake, every which way kind of donuts, crullers, fritters, etc. you can imagine. These all taste freshly made from the ones I have tried. Glazed donuts, chocolate covered donuts, cake donuts, and chocolate covered white creme filled donuts are among the goodies I have sampled and they were all great. I was particularly intrigued that when I ordered the creme filled one, they didn't actually place the creme inside the donut until I ordered it. Very fresh! The cake donut, man, it's great stuff. You can get some dried out or even oily ones out in other places but the ones here are perfectly moist and tasty. The shop itself is very modest in decor and appearance. Some tables with plastic chairs are there if you wish to grab a milk or other beverage they have in the cooler and enjoy your treat at their shop. Even a TV is going in case one of your games is playing and you can't miss a moment while enjoying your donut treats. Bottom line: On the basis of their cake donuts alone I could easily go 4.5 stars for Baker's Dozen Donuts. All the other donuts I've tried there are near par with Krispy Kreme like quality (and I do love me some Krispy Kreme). Modest table/chair setup in shop for enjoying in house if you choose. I had friends tell me I had to try this place because they know I LOVE donuts!!! This place was just a tiny little shop you'd drive by if you weren't looking for it. I went to the one in the Cary area not downtown. The women were super sweet. I went late Saturday morning and there was no line and they still had plenty to choose from. The donuts were really good. They were big and fluffy but still had the density you would want. Even the smell of them was delicious lol! I got a chocolate glazed, a strawberry and coconut and a glaze with chocolate icing. These are my dunkin donuts favs. Just no comparison to this place and how could there be?! This place is local and I'll definitely be back to indulge myself!! Made my morning! read more

I love donuts so when I was planing out trip to Raleigh I took special care to refer to Yelp for some good donuts. The reviews for Baker's Dozen were spot on since they have incredible donuts!!! We enjoyed the pumpkin cake, buttermilk, and sugar raised donuts. We tried to get donuts that sounded appealing as well as made by different techniques (cake vs yeast). Each donut was a good good size and very flavorful. As well, we got an apple fritter that completely changed my life. I swear this was THE BEST apple fritter I've ever had and I've had a few (A LOT). It was sweet with the glaze but it was sized appropriately so that you didn't hate yourself after finishing it. There was plenty of apple bits in there as well- kinda important to it being an apple fritter. The price' are really reasonable for the size and quality of the donuts.The place is decorated simply but that doesn't matter since the thing that matters most is that the donuts are ridiculously good. read more

I live in nyc with access to some of the best artisanal donuts and baker's dozen is still one of the best. The donuts are classic, light, and fluffy. I didn't realize how much I loved apple fritters until I tried them here...they are ridiculous! The buttermilk and classic glazed donuts are amazing and far better than Krispy Kreme. Behind the nondescript store front (DONUTS) lies a Mecca for Doughnut Lovers. They have ruined me for all other Doughnut shops. While the decor is understated it is very clean and the the display case is filled with the most delicious looking, handmade doughnuts. They offer fresh Cake and Yeast versions. The "filled" doughnuts are filled in front of you. That doesn't happen in the chain store. I bought a variety dozen(13) a mix of yeast and cake, an incredible sight to behold. But the real stars of the show were the Apple Fritter and the apple filled Bear Claw. The staff are very friendly. Drive past DD and KK and head here you won't be sorry. read more

Daughter speaks highly of their coconut....one thing I noticed though is that the donuts are very,very sweet. Most buttermilk and old fashioned are a bit milder in flavor. Came here on a Thursday night to fulfill a craving for something sweet. Last time I tried to come here I was turned away because I didn't have cash and didn't want to meet the debit card minimum as I try to only buy one or two at a time to avoid over indulging. The lady was sort of rude about it and unwilling to budge even though I was a first time client. It put a bad taste in my mouth for sure. Good service is 60% of the experience for me. Finally decided to come back with cash. Got a strawberry raised (this is the stick by which I measure all donuts) and it was just ok. Slightly dry though the icing was good. All in all its just okay. This is not a destination and in my opinion only leaves you wanting a better donut. I will admit that I'm a bit of a donut snob and have come to expect a lot from donut shops (fresh ingredients, made fresh hourly, awesome decor, delicious coffee and a free donut with Yelp check in) etc--SideNote: if you're ever in Richmond or Alexandria VA TRY SUGAR SHACK....). I guess I'll keep searching for the donuts in the area that are worth driving for because these aren't it. read more
