Gotta say, I've had wildly mixed experiences with BoB over the years. From snotty counter help to cakes not designed as discussed. This last experience, well, it takes the cake. I was gifted a birthday cake and the first piece ticked a lot of positive boxes, but left something in my mouth. Literally. It was almost the consistency of shredded coconut and I dismissed it as such because I didn't order the cake so wasn't sure what the person who had ordered it had asked for. The second piece, same thing - only this time I noticed I couldn't really bite through whatever the mystery shavings were. I've been baking for over 40 years and as I considered what "whatever" it was could've been, it wasn't the right consistency for coconut. I managed to pull a bit of it off my tongue and the only thing I could liken it to in my years of baking was when I accidentally shredded part of a rubber spatula and it ended up in the cake. I was able to track it down to the frosting. Specifically the blue. I scraped all the blue frosting off and tried a small piece and no more mystery matter. I plopped all the blue frosting that was left, which was mostly a set of frosting balloons, in the sink drain. I first ran hot water over it and this was what was left.The attached image shows what is left - after having used the sink for FOUR DAYS. It still hasn't broken down. If it were butter and powdered sugar it would've been gone long ago. I don't know what that was/is, but I don't see myself eating another one of their cakes anytime soon. read more

The best cake you will ever have, be sure to order buttercream icing. I promise you will not be disappointed by these cakes, I've never had a problem with the customer service, I don't know how other people have, it kinds seems like a lot then are just overly picky. Anyway, the shop itself is very cute, it reminds me of an old classic style bakery'. Won't order from here anymore. We loved them for our wedding & kept going back, but the last couple times we used them we were not happy. First I'll start off with our fail of a gender reveal cake. It was hard. So not fresh. Which isn't the first time we received a hard cake from them. We cut into the cake and there was NO COLOR. They put the tiniest amount of color in the very center. So that was a waste of money and trip to the bakery because the video did not show any blue, thanks for ruining that special moment for us. Secondly, we got a cake that had an over powering taste of almond extract flavor.. how & why was it that over powering. So with the flavor not being on point, cake not being fresh, and them not providing a simple colored cake I will not be traveling over an hour to them again. read more

They didn't the cake my dad was interested in which wasn't a problem but when he did decide to purchase something it was an additional charge because his total didn't meet the minimum. I have been getting cakes from Bakers for many years and when I saw my sons birthday cake today I was sorely disappointed. The color was wrong, the cake wasn't on the board correctly which made the sides hit the box and get smushed, the fondant was messed up and left imperfections on the cake, the "squiggles" on the top were poorly done and amateur looking. When my family member picked them up they were not done so she waited and looked rushed. I was so heart broken over my cakes. The smash cake didn't have any football decorations as we had discussed. The lady we worked with understood exactly what I was looking for and made some adjustments to get me exactly what I wanted without going too far over budget. They were professional and followed up to confirm details and explained the covid supply chain issues ahead of time so I understood there was some urgency to ordering materials even though I did the design months in advance. On the day of, there was a mix up with my florist, who put the flowers on the wrong spot on my cake, but everything else was fine. We got our wedding cake here back in 2014 and absolutely loved everything about the process and the cake itself. My husband and I are huge Disney lovers (specifically The Nightmare Before Christmas) and wanted to incorporate that theme into our cake somehow. The woman we met with came up with the coolest design to tie in with our cake topper and once we found out she was. Disney lover herself, we knew we were in excellent hands. The tasting process they have is awesome, where each small cake to taste costs only $4 each. We turned this into something fun where we would have tasting parties with friends and take votes on everyone's favorites. It worked out great! One of my favorite things about our wedding day was that stunning cake! Not only was it everything we wanted, it was also delicious! We still get compliments on it to this day! We used Bakers of Buffington for our October 2009 wedding. They were always professional and courteous, had the cake set up perfectly and on time, and gave me tips and advice on my cake. Best of all the cake turned out AWESOME!! My recommendation to anyone looking to go there is to set up a consultation-- don't just walk in. They are an orders-only kind of place, and are usually very busy and don't have someone managing the front all day. Once you set that up, though, they'll sit down with you and go over everything (they have photo books, but definitely come in with some of your own ideas!). And since, as I said, they are an order-only place, they don't have cakes sitting around for tasting, but they give you these SUPER TALL 6" (I think?) cakes for tasting. You get two for free and the others are $4 a piece (you can try 1 filling and 2 cake types in each, though, since they are double layered). Oh, and my bridal shower cake came from them too! Equally as awesome and delicious. Absolutely delicious cakes, wonderful staff, great bakery. Would recommend BoB to anyone. The best part was that my 90-95 person cake was only ~$300. Cake was either too dry or old that it collapsed on itself crushing the bottom portion. They were not accommodating at all. Had to grab a cake from Wegman's to replace for party. I was throwing my sister a gender reveal party and called about a week a half before the party. Originally wanted cupcakes (vanilla cake with half pink icing and the other half blue icing) but the girl talked me in to getting the swirl of pink and blue. They were more money than I wanted but it was a special day so why not. I picked them up and they look like the photo below(mint green and peach)! A plain yellow cake with strawberry filling may sound very basic, but this was by far one of the top 2 cakes I have ever had in over 50 years! It was incredibly moist and the cake to icing ratio was just perfect (that's our own personal test!) Many bakeries can make a pretty cake, but not all can make a beautiful cake that tastes good too! The guests at our wedding raved about the taste, and I can honestly say I say I rarely eat more than one piece of cake. We had a horrible experience with the Bakers of Buffington. The only reason we're even using them is because our wedding venue uses them as their exclusive cake maker. My fiance went to the bakery after calling and setting up her cake consultation. When she called, they went over what we thought was everything, even saying that you will be able to try all of the cake fillings with the three or four cakes we were ordering to taste. Well, she gets there, and is told that there is no filling for her because she didn't order any. Wouldn't you think that the person she talked to would have told her that? Instead of offering to just give her some fillings, the store employee berated my fiance and her mother, and then told her if they wanted filling, they had to order it, and they could come back to get it at a later date. When my fiance told her that she wanted filling, and asked if she could get some from the back, she was told no. There were clearly people working in the back. Not once did an owner or manager come out and try to deal with the situation. The only response we could get was that "plenty of people order cakes with no filling, I can show you the paperwork." The customer service was so poor, I would not recommend this bakery for anything. If it weren't included in our wedding cost, I would go elsewhere. I have never heard of a bakery treating someone in such a disrespectful, discourteous manner before. It's not like we order a ton of wedding cakes, this is our first time. I feel like a bakery that claims to specialize in wedding cakes should understand this. read more

But when I called them to setup my wedding consultation.. they told me that I get to sample 2 types of cake and IF i wanted filling I could try 2 types of filling. If wanted to try more, it would be $4 a cake. Also, that you had to order them in advance at least 2 days notice. I heard some really good reviews of their cakes. That they are really good, cakes are very moist and the best cakes ever. I am in love with their cakes. First off, the cake samples they gave me were HUGE!! I had two free cake samples (about 6 inch cakes), they must have weighed about 5 to 6 pounds for both cakes. I couldn't hold both. My sister held the other one. I liked their cake and the filling so much, I went back and order another type of cake and filling to try. The samples they give you are for you to go home and try. (Because they don't have a license to serve food in their store. ) Which didn't bother me. Instead I spent my time picking out exactly how I wanted my wedding cake to look at.
