Mark and I both had our share of disappointing shots but overall we thoroughly enjoyed our day. The course was in great condition as usual. We both shot 86s. Regardless, the place was kept clean and dinner was great. I had dinner with colleagues by invitation from a company. Food was great, steak was cooked well, the only dish I didn't like was the dessert. I think it was a sorbet? It was hard when we tried to have a scoop, we weren't able to finish it.

There are a few indoor exhibits that feature the vehicles used in the past for multiple purposes, and also a barn that includes memorabilia from old bars that our ancestors enjoyed in Kern County. The best introduction to a region is learning of its history. I stopped by as I told my Mom this is a highly-rated experience and gem of the community! Turns out, it is. Kern County Museum is an immersive outdoor experience set up as a community or town where you go from houses to buildings to barns, exploring what life was like when people lived in the olden days. We spotted a hotel, doctor's office, schools, courthouse, and so many more buildings. All the structures are well-maintained and have descriptions in front of them. You're even allowed to go in some of the buildings! My favorite was a the spooky Mason Lodge! We spent a while enjoying the stories and significance of these locations which led to the development of a well-known Central California city! Kern County Museum even has a research center, mini art gallery, and children's discovery center. The facilities are clean and well-kept. There's an indoor section to the museum with background on Native American and war-time culture in Kern. My Mom and I came during a week day, we saw several parents bring their children to explore the museum. There's plenty of parking and room to move around. As an educator, i highly recommend checking this out! It's also perfect for field trips!

My 21 mile out was met by a few banks of heavy fog and lots of workers headed west towards Taft and the oil fields. It was cool and crisp at 8:00 am when we checked in, $40 for 18 is still a deal. The pro shop didn't really have much merchandise at all which concerned me. The gentleman who checked us in was pleasant. We putted for about 10 minutes before we were up at 8:30. I noticed the driving range, it looked terrible. There were few early strong willed groups out in front of us. This course is classic with the all the different elevations and different terrains. The greens are in good shape, large and tricky, they challenge your game, most all break towards Taft that hasn't changed. The tee boxes weren't too bad, sand traps were all in poor condition, fairways were the same, shaggy and tough with many gopher and squirrels holes. Numerous trees on the course were in need of attention broken and down limbs some require removal. Cart paths are also in need of repairs. This beautiful course is in rough condition. I heard rumors that were mainly because of high water rates that have escalated to the breaking point for management. This used to be a Kern County gem, a fine place to play a round of golf or hold a tournament. Snack bar was always busy great lunches. Why can't the County or the City of Taft partner together drill a well or help with the serious problem out here? We (County) spend money for many causes and fund numerous questionable programs let's save a this classic venue before its too late. The games and prizes followed the same format as every year. Same food, different year.

It's a great way to get away from the hustle and stress of Christmas and just enjoy some live entertainment. The atmosphere is awesome. Everyone has a smile. The actors are fun and engaging. No one takes themselves too seriously, which is weird because melodrama is in the name. ;) They have a snack bar. We got free popcorn because my brother has season tickets. And, I must say, it's pretty darn good popcorn. This is a wonderful family experience, and if you can get tickets. I really recommend you try them out.

The actors are incredible and always giving 110% and the staff is just as amazing, making every visit feel warm and welcoming. After four decades of attending local shows, I can honestly say the Gaslight Melodrama continues to be one of my favorite places in Bakersfield.
