I have been BBQ'ing grilling / smoking them w/ good salt & pepper only for several months now, & I can promise you, THEY ROCK! My husband found some vegan miso soup packets and bought a bunch of those to try. Because it was a hot summer day, we didn't get produce or anything frozen, but were happy to see they offer a good selection of both. While he was getting real food and pantry items, I perused the snack aisles and beer cases haha. While it's small in square footage, it makes the best out of the space so there's a wide variety of grocery products. I can't speak to the fish or butcher areas because we're a vegetarian household (he's vegetarian and I don't cook non-veg because of cross contamination concerns), but I thought that these sections looked good to me.

I usually come when I need something that's from a Japanese market - like the vitamin c drink from Japan (pokka) or if I want natto. Or if my husband wants to chef it up and make sushi/sashimi/maki at home. I usually love coming to this area because right outside of the market is a food hall and if you explore around, there's an upstairs shopping area as well.

If you weren't here today you missed out on some delicious free mini canoli and mixed fruit pastry and coffee. I think most people, including us, assumed it will be another Russian store (which ironically would be right across Gourmet Plaza, the infamous long standing local Russian store). But it is not Russian at all. It seems to be a weird medley of Indian/South Asian owners with a store carrying your standard Eastern European/Turkish/Russian fare plus healthy type of items, with cashiers being young Russian/former Soviet girls, and Turkish music playing in the background. If you're looking for a typical Russian store with assorted hot foods, this ain't it. At the front of the store they have nice looking cakes and pastries and the rest of the store is wide assortment of dried fruits and nuts, teas, crackers, grains, cheeses, etc. You could see some of it on my pics. But I only took a few. I didn't want be a nut snapping up pics all over the place. I don't see their phone number posted up anywhere. Perhaps they don't have one yet since they only started operating. I couldn't find any mention of them online at all yet. I am still confused about their actual name. On the pic I took you could see the sign above the store says Food Mart (Gourmet Market) but on the receipt it says Super Food Mart. They also put wrong zip code on the receipt. It is 11229, not 11219. And I do not k ow their operating hours yet.

Go early if you don't want them to sell out of anything or purposely go a little later if you want one of their lunch sandwiches on focaccia. I have had the tomato and garlic focaccia twice now and each time it has been exceptional. Minor critique, the slices of garlic could be a bit smaller. I also had the shakshuka focaccia which is divine and I would absolutely recommend both. I need to come back to try their sandwiches as well. I am not a sweets person, but everyone I know loves their pastries. Getting someone a gif tcard here makes for a great gift.

I'm usually more of a savory girlie but all the sweet items we tried were great, especially the rhubarb croissant and the earl grey morning bun. I really enjoyed the focaccia sandwiches (smoked salmon and pea/mint/feta were elite) and the artichoke green garlic slice. The flavor of the sesame stirato was excellent but the bread itself was a tad too chewy for the filling we got with it (tuna salad), so that style probably works better with the jambon beurre. Will definitely be on the rotation whenever I'm in the city -- would love to try some of their seasonal/limited edition items one day, though not sure if I have it in me to brave the lines that can form on the weekends, lol! We'll see :)

The fish and chips came with two fried filets of white fish and a basket of classic fries. The fish was lightly battered and flakey. The house made tartar sauce was a good complement to it. The salad dressing also was delicious. So good! Definitely highlight of this restaurant. - Clam chowder. Also 10/10. Hearty, flavorful. Loved every bite of it. Service was average. They weren't profoundly interested in giving best service instead just chatting amongst each other and dropping off plates. Also they forgot about the clam chowder we ordered and asked if we still want it.. YES..that's why we ordered it.
