I believe the store owner may be Georgian as there is always a large selection of Georgian food in the little hot food/salad bar section. The prices are very reasonable and they are well stocked with quality produce, canned goods, cold cuts and cheese, smoked fish as well as offering the services of a small butcher shop. It's a rather large grocery store where you'll find all kinds of Italian things from cheese to pasta, everything is imported from Italy. We loved the semi stagionato cheese and took home a lot of delicious black pepper cheese. Loved finding many different things I normally don't while bringing back some nostalgic things we love. I live just a few blocks away from this market, so I visit it occasionally. The market is large and…read morehas fresh produce in the front. Inside, it has aisle upon aisles of Asian-focused products. The prices are on par with those of other fruit and veggie stands. They do have the occasional sale but it's usually food close to or expired recently. The staff can be hit and miss. They do have a lot of cashiers. They have a minimum of $10. If you are not Asian though, some of the other patrons and cashiers do look and treat you unkindly. I had asked someone a question and she said I do not work here. I literally had asked if this was an expiration date as it wasn't in English. I would have helped someone if they are trying to read something. It's called common courtesy. Other times, I would be standing in the corner, and I would literally get pushed out of the way, when there is space behind me. I try to take up as little space as possible but yet they feel that I am not entitled to be there. I would say all the other stores on the block and area doesn't have this much of an issue (except the restaurants and I avoid those like the plague).

Trying to maneuver around carts, boxes, and staff slows everything down and turns a quick trip into a much longer and more stressful experience. I completely understand that restocking and cleaning are essential, but it would make a huge difference if more of this work could be scheduled during slower hours--like early mornings or later at night--rather than right after work when many customers are trying to shop efficiently on their way home. One example: I bought frozen semites several times at a price of $7.99. When I came back a couple of days later to buy this product again, the price was already $ 10.99. How is this possible? To raise the price by $ 3 in one day!!! I do my main shopping at Whole Foods, but even there, where most of the products are organic, shopping is cheaper for me. I think most people, including us, assumed it will be another Russian store (which ironically would be right across Gourmet Plaza, the infamous long standing local Russian store). But it is not Russian at all. It seems to be a weird medley of Indian/South Asian owners with a store carrying your standard Eastern European/Turkish/Russian fare plus healthy type of items, with cashiers being young Russian/former Soviet girls, and Turkish music playing in the background. If you're looking for a typical Russian store with assorted hot foods, this ain't it. At the front of the store they have nice looking cakes and pastries and the rest of the store is wide assortment of dried fruits and nuts, teas, crackers, grains, cheeses, etc. You could see some of it on my pics. But I only took a few. I didn't want be a nut snapping up pics all over the place. I don't see their phone number posted up anywhere. Perhaps they don't have one yet since they only started operating. I couldn't find any mention of them online at all yet. I am still confused about their actual name. On the pic I took you could see the sign above the store says Food Mart (Gourmet Market) but on the receipt it says Super Food Mart. They also put wrong zip code on the receipt. It is 11229, not 11219. And I do not k ow their operating hours yet.

It is so lush and green it looks like the garden of Eden! The deli was my destination today. It was hot AH and I wanted a sub. They have a number of pre-made sandwiches, wraps and snack-packs i.e. half sandwiches with chips and a sweet. Thankfully they make subs to order. The person at the counter asked me to choose my bread from the aisle behind me. I was confused as that's something I've never had to do before, but I like the idea. I got an Italian assorted with extra meat and mayo. It was DELISH!
