I would give this place zero stars ! It should be called Bal Harbour FROWNS !!!! The cheap $29 cleaning is just a ploy to get your butt in the chair to take X-rays so they can "FIND" thousands of dollars worth of UNNECESSARY work to be done in your mouth. They have "printers" to make Crowns, Onlays, and Implants, and thats where the real money is. So once they determine in their OWN judgement that you NEED any of these things they crank up the machines and charge you thousands to drain your wallet, and put you through alot of needless pain and suffering. There is the practice of dentistry, and the "business of dentistry" and they focus on the latter. Beware of pressure tactics like there is decay and this needs to be addressed immediately. And the last thing they want to hear is that you want a copy of your X-rays to get a second opinion. They give Dentistry a BAD NAME. GO ELSEWHERE ! Furthermore, they put in an Onlay that cracked in half within a year or so that had to be replaced and they had the gall to charge me $1000 to replace it. Onlays shouldn't break within a year unless they were defective from the beginning, meaning they were filed too thin or not put in properly. They don't even stand behind their own work !!! So here's what they do if you're buying their Groupon... They don't offer you a cleaning like the Groupon implies. They give you X-rays and inspect your teeth, then show you the pictures of the plaque buildup and say you need a debridement for $250. They tell you, in THEIR words, the Groupon service is "no more than a tooth brushing" so in order to fix the plaque you have to upgrade to a debridement. They will show you pictures of other patients with plaque much worse than yours and use fear mongering tactics to get you to agree to the debridement. If you decline, they will bring the price down and explain (again) how much worse this can get, and in the future you will need a deep clean costing over double what they're asking now. When you decline again, they begrudgingly will "brush your teeth" while again reiterating this isn't fixing any of your problems. After the brush, in my case, the dentist came in for no more than 60 seconds and told the assistant I had two cavities without even addressing me, then he left. I never saw him again. Once that's done they come to you again with a new total for all the work to be completed, $750 in my case. I again declined and I was AGAIN shown pictures of how bad my teeth will look if I don't agree to their service. After declining again, I checked out with the receptionist where amazingly, she even showed me via google what my teeth will look like if I don't fix them. So I decided I'd shop around. In the meantime, no more than a week later I was contacted and told they can drop 10% of the price, and you guessed it, told that if I don't fix it now things will get worse. I declined. From there I set an appointment with another dentist who gave me the cleaning I paid for. It was not a "tooth brushing", but a real cleaning that did scrape the plaque from my teeth. This was done with not even a mention of a debridement. I was also informed of my ONE cavity (not two as said by Bal Harbor Smiles) and had it filled. I was out of the door for $300. This company is either a scam, or incompetent for not knowing the difference between a general cleaning and an oral debridement. If you buy their Groupon, expect to pay $30 to have your teeth brushed and be upsold unnecessary work, while they place fear in you for not doing as they say. Lastly, they're in Surfside. Mixed feelings on this place. Game in for a cleaning on a Groupon. They did do a great job on the cleanings. But they did tell me that I need OVER $2,200 worth of dental work. Got a cleaning from a high end dentist several months ago and they didn't mention anything. They said I needed to redo my root canal and crown as well as several fillings. I also noticed that their prices for each procedure where super high and the office manager mention that they're a high end office and you get what you pay for, they also thought their prices are justified because they have a 3D printer. There's a small chance that they did make some valid points but it is extremely unlikely given that 1. No other dentist had mentioned any of the things they did 2. How it felt like they were just trying to sell me / Pull a Groupon bait and switch. This wasn't my first time getting a cleaning on a Groupon so I was prepared for this. But I would feel very sorry for anyone who got 2K+ worth of dental treatment that they don't need leaving them in an even worse position and having to spend more money fixing the damage which was done. ( I have heard stories like this) This is why I felt compelled to write this review. So in my humble opinion if you come for a cleaning and this dentist tells you that you needs thousands of dollars worth of treatment I would recommend taking what he says with a grain of salt and getting a second opinion. They are very talented to trick you about consultations The first and last time I came with a coupon of $29.00 for cleaning my teeth. They x-rayed me and said I can not get my cleaning because they told me I have a gum disease and I need a deep cleaning under anesthesia for $1,200.00. My original dentist (10 years) is down town and I asked her how much would cost a deep cleaning under anesthesia. She responded to me :$ 600.00. As I was time limited at this time, could not drive all the way down town and visit Bal Harbor Smiles instead. One month later I could make it to my original dentist, down town and I paid only $60.00 for an excellent cleaning. My dentist told me that I absolutely don't need a deep cleaning under anesthesia and spend all this money. Just for informations... Some dentists tell you stories, scaring you and pull lots of money out of your pocket. Watch out !!! I like the dentist but the office staff is not so good. I have been a patient for years but I cannot ever get them to file for insurance on my procedures. . I have had dental insurance for 10 years but they make people pay in advance and will not file for reimbursement, even tho they say they will. This past year I have made a big issue of it and still nothing. Apparently there is only one person who can do it and they will not get pre approval or tell you how much they will cover. I have held off on scheduling the next filling to make sure they are able to bill the insurance company. It's been 7 months and they just told me they did reimburse $55 on the cleaning and they still didn't file for the filling from last year... I have repeatedly asked. I have asked on the phone and in person day of appointment and dropping by to follow up. They double book appointments and keep you waiting for hours or cancel with little notice. On a positive note, the dentist himself (Dr Bernabe) is good, and it's close to my house, but he also doesn't get involved with ensuring anyone does their job of filing the insurance. read more

The worst place for getting teeth cleaned or fixed! DONT GO HERE! Worst experience of my life and now I'm super traumatized to go to another dentist. Well, the "dentist" didn't even see me after spending over 1k for a deep cleaning! The assistant man that barley speaks English and can not understand didn't put in the numbing product in correctly and felt every lil pink and twist! I've been following this practice for a while now. It looks like they do great work. However, I WAS trying to set up an appointment since last week. I've called and no one answers, and have left messages but didn't hear from anyone until yesterday around 1:30pm... by text message. Being uninsured and having to pay out of pocket, I was pleased that I got the pricing info I needed without much effort. So, I proceeded to set up an appointment. I was told a treatment coordinator would "be calling me shortly". Well.... 24 hours went by and I still didn't heard anything from anyone. I didn't get any confirmation of my appointment and got no call from a coordinator. I'm pretty disappointed because I was blown away by what I've seen as far as the work they do. But I'm very displeased with the cold nature of the text messages and the complete lack of follow up on my appointment confirmation or follow up from the treatment coordinator. Going to the dentist is already nerve-wracking as it is. But a new patient needs to feel comfortable about going to a new dentist. Unfortunately, I had to look elsewhere. Went in because I bought a Groupon for a dental cleaning. The receptionist were REALLY nice and super funny, they're actually the one of the two only reasons that this review isn't 1 star. Firstly, waited 40 minutes after my scheduled appointment time to be seen. The lady who was doing my X-rays was extremely rude when I was having trouble with the decide. Anyone who's done these types of X-rays knows that it can HURT like hell, and it did. An area from under my tongue is still bruised from it. She showed no compassion and kept loudly sighing and annoyingly saying "You can't move it, you need to stay still, you're not biting it right." After a while doing this (which she left the room twice during), she tells me that my condition is terrible and I need a deep cleaning. She shows me where my teeth have withered away and a bunch of plaque build up and how troubling it is. It'd be one thing if she were sincere, but she was saying it in a very judgmental way. "There's no reason for your teeth to look like this at your age." Then, they try to tell me that I need a $1,200 deep dental cleaning and that I need it done or else there will be extreme consequences for my teeth. (Something that no other dentist has expressed concern about). They brought in a lady who was there to explain costs and importance of the procedure. She was VERY nice and the second reason this review doesn't have one star, but I could tell they were trying to up-sell me. Sure enough, I go on the yelp page to express concern about the dentist who did my X-rays, and multiple people went in and were told they needed super expensive, deep dental cleaning. This place is clearly a scam and is more concerned with making money than helping out patients. I will be going to my family dentist and will happily pay $175 for an actual cleaning with friendly professionals instead of being scammed into a cheap cleaning where I don't even get the service I paid for. read more

Unprofessional, unethical and dirty practice! Be aware! I just have to post my review to warn all people not to go there! First of all I f you think they will accept a 25$ Groupon, you are wrong. They will find million reasons to tell you that your cleaning is a full price which is 250$. Once inside the office, a hygienist completed my Full month series X-rays, which he shouldn't have done before a doctor assesments. He then did a horrible job in cleaning, I had to point to the areas where he failed to clean: check the area between the teeth! He even got irritated when I asked him to fix those missed areas. When the doctor came in to that tiny dirty room that I was in, he briefly told me all his suggestions without any reasoning and explanations on why he suggests specific treatment. Several of them were absolutely unnecessary (as per second opinion assessment in other office)! He suggested extraction for one of my teeth while radiographs did not show any reason for that! Guess what was the reason: extraction costs 450$ and then the following implant with crown would cost 2500$.. But the most obnoxious thing that stroke me is their "Fee" for having your own xray records: it's 150$! Which I must say is ILLIGAL and UNETHICAL! The American dental association suggest " reasonable fee" for releasing records to the patient by their request. 150$ is a robbery! It should NOT be more then 25-30$. What a crooks!! read more

I usually do not write reviews but I'm doing this in the hopes that they leave me alone and stop contacting me. I had a cleaning done here almost a year ago. It was horrible. The tech did not know what he was doing (he didn't even know how to operate the chair) and he was rude. I also needed to get four severely impacted wisdom teeth pulled out and was told that I could drive to and from that procedure myself without any issues. Huge red flag as I'm sure we have all seen those crazy videos of patients after this procedure doing crazy/funny stuff from the meds. That being said, I chose to go elsewhere and never scheduled anything else with this office; however, every few weeks, I'll get calls (more so in the beginning, now just texts) and texts from them about an upcoming appt. I have told them and even texted them numerous times that I did not schedule anything and will not be scheduling anything with them in the future but it keeps happening. They have no shame, I've received texts at 4am, 8am, nights, weekends, holidays, it doesn't matter. They even texted me this morning at 9am. I've texted them to stop contacting me and blocked two of their numbers (because obviously what I tell them doesn't matter) but they are still texting me somehow. I feel like I'm going through a bad breakup with a clingy boyfriend that won't stop harassing me. Please just leave me alone and stop contacting me. read more

I discovered this dentist through a Groupon deal 6 or so years ago and I've been coming to him ever since. The doctor is super friendly and fluent in Spanish. This place has amazing specials and always hands out a goodie bag which always makes me smile big on my way out. I don't even live in Florida but I still come here for my dental work. I would also say that I really trust the doctor's level of detail. It's important to me that the dentist looks out after the teeth's health and appearance and this doctor does both very well! read more

I spend 6 months in Miami, where I was born, and 6 months in NY, where my wife is from. I used a Groupon offer to visit BHS. I had a loose bridge that I needed re-cementing and needed a cleaning.I was charged $75 for temporarily cementing the bridge and I left feeling that I had just frequented an old fashion used car lot. I was told that the x-rays showed the need for 3 crowns and two cavities to be filled. I was planning on returning North later that month and did not want to get involved at that time. I stated this at the time and could feel their displeasure. I recently went to my dentist here in NY and his office called down to BHS to have the x-rays emailed to them. BHS stated that they wanted a credit card payment from me for $105. before they would send the pics. I have been to numerous dentists and have never had to pay for dental records, x-rays, etc., to be transferred between doctors. Anyway, it turned out that I only need two crowns and one cavity to be filled, so I cannot recommend this establishment. read more

This is my second review after years going to this office. Carolina has always done such an incredible job cleaning that I would only go there for this service. I also did a filling and a crown there (btw the doctor that did that doesn't work there anymore, no wonder why!). After that I just went for cleaning. Every single time I went they would put me "on the carpet" like at the principle office to tell me how much I needed to fix and that I had to do it right away and it will get very uncomfortable. Long story short, last time I went for cleaning and refused to fix my imaginary cavities ( I just had done the whole mouth somewhere else, and there was nothing else to be fixed) Carolina (who I thought to be the last person to do so) told me straight up front: do not come back for cleaning if you dont want any other work to be done! You can not just come here for a cleaning! I couldn't believe my ears! Its not like its done for free! Im still paying for the service! But because she realized that I will not be doing any much more expensive work I was simply refused any cleaning service at this clinic. Is her salary commission based??? They are really pushy and its gets super annoying to get so many constant notifications. Even if you call them to check availability they automatically make an appointment for you at a later date that you find out via email. So many times after I already came in I would get a call confirming my appointment that I never made. Im sure they charge for no show for that as well! I went to BHS a few weeks ago as i had purchased a groupon for Dental Cleaning and X rays. I paid $30 for the groupon, and the actual price of the cleaning and X rays is $85 in that office so I thought it was a good deal. I arrived and the lady at the front desk gave some forms to fill out. She was very nice. I told her I had my groupon and she wrote down all the information and asked me to wait. I went in, and had my X rays and cleaning done by a really nice colombian lady. After the cleaning, I was supposed to see the dentist (as the groupon also included a consultation with the dentist). I was told that he was caught up in surgery and that i could either wait 30 mins or come back later. I decided to go run some errands and return later that same day. When I was back, I didn't have to wait much, and I could see the dentist. He told me I had 7 cavities that needed fixing asap. I literally freaked out! It is true that i haven't been to the dentist in a year but I never have cavities, and 7 sounded outrageous! I was then given a Proposal, with all charges that i needed to pay if i wanted them to fix all the cavities. I decided to go on a second consultation (which of course i had to pay) to double check the dentist's diagnosis. I went to a dental office that someone i know recommended me. I had to have my Xrays done again, as Bal Harbour Smiles wanted to charge me more than $100 to have a copy of my X rays sent to me. The new dentist told me I have only 2 cavities. After his diagnosis, I told him that i was told i had 7! he confirmed that according to his exam and the X rays i only had 2... I did not want to believe this, but after sharing my story with many, I realized I was not the only one who was fooled... I wanted to share this story so that no one goes thru this... read more
