I have been using Bala Eyecare for more than thirty years and have been under the care of every Doctor there. All of the Doctors have given me outstanding service. Today, I had the newest Ophthalmologist for my second time. Dr. Jazmin Logendra saw me today after making the appointment yesterday because I was having issues because of my age. She spent forty five minutes with me, had other technicians run other scans and tests on my eyes. She put all the information together and will now discuss all of it with the Senior Ophthalmologist. She feels quite sure, based on the the information what has to be done to fix my issue. She is very kind, efficient, soft spoken, makes sure that I understand everything that she is saying. She also had me take short breaks because the positions were hard to hold! I would highly recommend Dr. Logendra for all of your eye needs. She is TOPS! read more

Where the surgery itself was extremely stressful, I still remember both surgeries rather vividly, although I was told this is not usual. I realize one has to be in the twilight stage, but truly why did I hear and feel so much discomfort? To informing me at one of my last visits, "I guess I didn't realize how near sighted you were". I am not a patient but I stopped in today after work, without and appointment, just as they were finishing for the day. I explained the problem I was having to the woman at the front desk, and that I was worried it might be serious. She let me know that they don't take walk-in patients, but she would check with the doctor and ask if he was able to stay a little longer and see me. Dr. DiGiovanni agreed and examined my eyes. He assured me that it was not serious and gave me samples and recommendations on how to take care of the issue. I highly recommend a visit to Bala Eye Care for great service and expert care. AWFUL SERVICE! My wife called to make an appointment for the both of us on Tuesday 11/4, the lady she spoke with said the next available appointment was Monday at 8:30am, so we took the 8:30am and 8:45am appointments for the two of us. We arrived at 8:25am on the following Monday 11/10, the blonde receptionist greeted us with a scowl and asked our names (after we already gave them) and the began looking through things as if we were putting her out, she then went on a computer and exclaimed in a nasty tone "your appointment if for next Monday, the 17th". We explained that is not what we were told, and my wife told her the conversation she had when the appointment was made, her response "I don't know what to tell you, your appointment is next week". If her attitude was at all pleasant or apologetic we would have been more understanding, but her belittling us and extremely poor customer service prompted us to cancel whatever appointment they had in the system for us. Please keep in mind if this "error" was in reverse and we missed an appointment over a misunderstanding most doctors charge a substantial missed appointment fee. I have been informed that this establish does not charge missed appointment fees which is a pleasant change from the industry norm, but I think my point of time value is understood. I see in Yelp reviews, that a reviewer from 4/3/2014 had a similar if not even worse experience with their staff, please do not support a practice like this and go to an ophthalmologist's office that actually cares about you and your experience. I recently moved into the area and was referred here by a co-worker when I mentioned that I needed to get my prescription adjusted having some vision issues lately. Well the experience was HORRIFIC. When I arrived for my appointment I was serviced by a blonde woman who had no customer service skills, spoke down to me, and made me feel like I was putting her out even coming in the door. After huffing and puffing shuffling through some papers she looked on the computer and barked at me that my appointment was for next week. I told her that's not what I was told on the phone, nonetheless with a "not my problem" type of attitude she repeated, your appointment is next week I dont know what you expect me to do? Well at the moment I was so appalled that I just told her to cancel the appointment for next week and left, but truely, what "I expected her to do?" was to have some sort of apology for either a misunderstanding or a mistake on their part. Perhaps offer to squeeze me in for an earlier appointment which I would not have been able to accept since I had to go to work, but the gesture could of saved me as a customer and this poor review. At thee very least do not speak to me like I am below you and show some type of positive customer service! I am so upset about this, but I felt it necessary to share this experience those considering Bala Eye Care, especially after I read how they handled Lillian W's situation from her review on 4/3/14. I wish I saw that before I wasted my time, lesson learned. read more

HORRIBLE experience at this location. Had an emergency at work (contact split in my eye)...quickly reached out to my network for the best & closest eye doctor in the area. Bala popped right up, had 5 stars on here so I rushed there. It was 12:57pm exactly. I was greeted by a sign that said the doctors won't be available until 1:30 pm. All the while I hear laughing behind a closed door in the back office. They were having a work lunch. A woman appeared from the back on the phone and told me the doctors were out and wouldn't be back until 1:30. She asked if I had an appointment and when I said 'no' her demeanor changed. I explained my issue and she said to try back at 1:30. By then that was just 15 minutes away. I waited in my car until then. Eye still scratchy. Walked back in at 1:27 pm to a woman behind the desk. She asked if I had an appointment with a scowl on her face. I said no and explained my issue. She said 'we don't do medical emergencies but I'll see what I can do' ok... I was hopeful, I just wanted someone to look at my eye. She sat there with a frown on her face for what seemed like forever which was probably just 5 minutes but when a contact is scratching your eye, 5 minutes is a long time. She asked what insurance I had (quite nastily too!) I told her and she told me she could squeeze me in at 2pm. I'd have to wait another 20 minutes for attention. By then I had it. I was on my lunch break and already wasted half an hour for their group lunch to end. Told her no thank you and left! Just awful. She didn't even get a doctor to speak with me. Medical emergency! Hello! What's most upsetting is the pure attitude she had like 'how dare you come to an eye doctor asking for eye care!' You've lost my business. read more

Love, love, love!! I have been going to Bala Eye Care for about 5 years and have just started to take my children. The doctors are great, and the staff is very friendly, and informed. They were able to explain to me what my insurance would cover, and more importantly they all helped me pick out my latest pair of very fashionable glasses. I had an emergency with my daughter the other day and they were accommodating and able to see her the same day. Seriously, I've seen a lot of ophthalmologists in my day and Dr. Keith Mathers at Bala is a star. Making an appointment was easy, they were on schedule (even late in the day!) and the office staff and optical shop staff are highly competent. Dr. Mathers listened to my concerns and complaints, and dignified them with explanations, information, and a clear commitment to getting me contacts that would suit me best. He even had an idea of how much things cost, which you don't always find with doctors! This was the lowest anxiety eye exam I've ever had in my life. I can't recommend Bala highly enough. Not a bad place, and but not a great place either. I would not count on high-rated reviews. They might be doing good job for treating eye diseases, but in terms of customer service, the word "patronizing" describes this office well. I don't want to come back again to this place. Definitely subpar experience in terms of the staff's and doctor D's kindness and the way they treat the patients. One of the staffs in the glass shop had bad attitude. She appeared wanting to constantly repel people and get them out of her attention, somewhat rudely. Apparently customers who spoke with this lady seemed feeling uneasy. read more

Bala Eye care, Dr DiGiovanni gave me a thorough eye exam and did some special tests considering my age. Their doctors take as much time with you as necessary. Thorough, efficient, accurate billing and they handle all insurance matters. I have been a patient since 2001. I am very satisfied. Well appointed office and plenty of parking. April at the front desk answered all of my questions and handled all of the pre testing. She is a true professional as are all of their doctors. I'm not usually one to write negative reviews, but I wish I'd known better than to go here. From the moment I walked into this establishment things went south. The employees at the front desk were rude and brusk towards me. But what really bothered me about them was to hear them openly gossip about an elderly patient who was sitting in the waiting room. No professionalism to be found, let alone decency. As for the eye exam itself, I went in for a standard exam. Every time I asked questions for additional clarification the tech would sigh and look at her watch! The doctor had plenty to say about my previous eye doctor perscribing readers because he "would never prescribe readers to someone in their 20s". Personally, I do enjoy not getting migraines everyday at work thanks to my readers and would prefer to discuss personalized eye care rather than age based generalizations. I've given an additional star because at the end of the day I got my eyes checked, but I would never come here again, not worth it. read more

I have been coming here for about 8 years. The exams are very thorough and professional. They keep excellent records on your eyes so they can monitor even the smallest change to your ocular health. While they are a bit pricey, you truly get what you pay for. Dr. Greenbaum is my doctor and he is very knowledgeable and patient. I have used their optician a couple of times and was impressed with the frame selection. They have some very high end, fashionable, frames. Dr. Digiovanni is my eye doctor and I do like him. He's really nice and addresses all of my concerns. The office staff are really nice as well and they are quite competent. My one complaint: When Dr. D. was on vacation, I saw Dr. Greenbaum and I did not like him at all. The guy should retire already. When I pointed out the swelling around my eye, he yelled at me, "Don't touch your eye!" Then he said my eye was perfectly fine. A month later it was infected. read more
