After finishing up at Lolli and Pop, we spotted Balboa Candy right across the street and had to laugh because we live in Newport and visit the Balboa Candy there all the time. We immediately wondered if it was the same owner and sure enough it is. This Palm Springs spot is their second location and it felt like a little piece of home for us. We could not resist grabbing another bag of candy to support a favorite local shop. They had all the classics we know and love from Newport including the huge variety of house made taffy, baseball chew, and every kind of sour candy you can think of. Everything was fresh and displayed so nicely that it is impossible to walk out empty handed. The staff here are just as friendly as the team back home and the store is spotless and fun for kids and adults alike. Whether you are visiting Palm Springs or a local with a sweet tooth this is an easy recommendation. Can't ask for more in a candy store. Similar to the one in actual Balboa, this place is a haven of taffy filled barrels with all kinds of weird flavors. Prickly pear, buttered popcorn, chili mango, Oh My! They also have all kinds of old candy that is guaranteed to give you the nostalgic feels. Just a great time browsing and also great tasting. I don't know friends but I feel like I really stumbled upon something good here! 90% of the time I have literally no sweet tooth or desire for chocolates or candies. In fact, had I not been shopping with friends I truly doubt I would have ever made my way in here but I'm glad they stopped in. At first class it is just a classic looking candy store. No frills but also classic decor and displays. It was clean and spacious for not being a huge store. They have the buckets where you can fill it with candy and they'll weigh it or they also had plenty of individually wrapped candies and chocolates. My mom noted that they had some old candy brands from her childhood times so that's good to know if you're looking for some harder to find candies and such. Staff were efficient, not overly friendly but they moved the line quickly and were polite. Also the prices seemed a little steep for some items but not being a candy expert I could be wrong but some other reviews I read noted the price. Despite these little things I have leaving 5 stars because they truly have some of the best homemade fudge I have ever had! Back story: I didn't grow up eating fudge or ever really trying it. I had vague memories as an adult trying it in Solvang and other towns but didn't particularly remember liking it. Even this summer I bought fudge in Europe and thought it was disgusting. For that, I don't know what propelled me to buy fudge again but i did because their flavors sounded good and they had a sign that they make their own fudge in house. I bought the peanut butter chocolate fudge for about $9. Again, a little steep as the fudge chunk wasn't super big but once I tried it I fell in love and became addicted. The fudge bar tasted like a better version of a Reese's cup. It was so delicious and cute because they pack the fudge with a little knife which was helpful to keep me in portion control. I still finished the fudge in three days and really wished I had more. I will be back to purchase loads more as it was so tasty and fresh, next time the white chocolate with Oreos is calling my name. read more

Old style candy store in the heart of downtown Palm Springs, known for their salt water taffy in a myriad of flavors. Fill your own bag and don't worry about trying to remember what you selected; they give you a card matching the colors to the flavors. Nice! Every taffy maker should do that. In addition to the taffy, there are dozens of types of candy that were popular back in the 60s, 70s and 8os. They have a wall covered in all the wrappers! So much fun to see the names of candy that I hadn't thought about in years but the mere sight conjures up so many memories. Like the pastel dots, basically colored sugar, on paper that we used to get at the snack shack at the lake. Or those horrible necco wafers that always found their way into our trick or treat bag. Sugar babies, bazooka bubble gum, glow pops, pez, sugar daddy, pop rocks, razzles, cow tales - there's a reason these aren't around any more! LOL They also sell some candy from Mexico and have a great selection of licorice, a required taste, and I'm a fan. While I enjoyed the trip down memory lane, the candy doesn't appeal to me the way a shop filled with dark chocolates, caramels and crisps. What a cute shop!! I instantly recognized this store when we walked by, and pulled my friend inside with me. The bins of salt water taffy were calling my name. I've been to the store in Lajolla, which I love. They have hands down some of the best salt water taffy ever. They do give you a taste map. But really, just forgo that. Get some handfuls, share with your friends and see who has the best taste buds. This mayyyy require that you write down or recall the flavors you picked out. Did you know they had chicken and waffle taffy?? Or cantaloupe?? I tried to convince my friends that this qualifies as dinner, they overruled me. Nice little specialty Shoppe on Palm Canyon for unique candy. We were strolling along the blvd and attracted to the baskets & barrels of salt-water taffy. The display was like a magnet for me. The general store look is old-fashioned and old school. You get to select 16 pieces of wrapped taffy for $2.99. I enjoyed the watermelon taffy. Kind of fun picking the taffy...felt like a kid in a candy store. I was in a candy store! I also eyed the old-school candy like Abba Zabba, Bit-O-Honey & Razzles. Sooo many flavors of taffy! We were instantly drawn in once we saw the plethora of sweet candy in the window while walking along the hot streets of Palm Springs. Once inside they have all sorts of sweets to choose from; chocolates, Mexican imports, fudge, sodas and more! I was set on taffy and it was probably a bad idea to go in while I was hungry because I was impulsively putting things into my basket without even knowing how much anything was. Candy by the pound is $3.80 per 1/4 pound and everything else is individually priced - not too bad. I settled on about a pound of taffy that included flavors like strawberry cheesecake, red velvet, vanilla, buttered popcorn, watermelon, candy corn and more. If you were feeling adventurous they even had offerings like maple bacon, chili mango, xtreme hot, chicken and waffles, plus other concoctions that I skipped. I really liked that they have you a guide to take with you that could reference what you bought. Super helpful, especially since I'm quite forgetful with things like this. Service was great and they have the air conditioning blasting, so it's a perfect excuse to take a break from the extreme heat during the day! read more

I got a bag of prickly pear cactus taffy for work and it was gone within a few days. Candy that normally comes in packages is instead bagged here. For example, you can buy a bag of Sour Patch Cherries, or a bag of licorice wheels, etc. Some things are in their original packaging, but it's a bit of a mixed bag. This packaging model means higher pricing for what you would normally pay for the candy elsewhere. It's a cute store, clean, and whatnot but not the place if you're planning to stock up a lot. Specializing in taffy, the store filled every crook and cranny with gummies, chocolate, rock candies, and much more. Brightly lit and ran by two workers, the store had a very welcoming look. With friendly greetings from the workers, it was the cue for my friend and I to start looking around. I got myself some salt water taffies too many flavors to count and some of those specialized gummies that chains simply do not have. Remember, buy the candies that aren't as easy to get from those grocery stores! Chances are, the common ones are definitely cheaper to buy out of the store so might as well get the ones you can't find easily. I didn't get to catch the price but they base it off of weight of course. Felt like I didn't even get much but it still came out to be ~$23. Yikes. Might've gone overboard. I came across this place one evening as my family and I were walking the strip. Through the window i could see the baskets of diff. kinds of salt water taffy. As I walked in, I was pleasantly surprised at all the other kinds of candies they had. I picked up the basket and put a variety of salt water taffy in it. I could have kept adding to it since the flavors are vast..but i didnt since I know that the more i add..the more I would eat ... As i write this im having me a another piece of candy. Whatever flavor you're looking for, you're likely to find it here. They also have a decent-sized variety of "vintage" (not vintage in the sense that it's old, but old-style, if that makes sense) as well as all the usual supermarket variety candy as well. Vintage-styled candy is definitely their forte, as evidence by all the vintage candy packaging adorning their walls. It can get crowded in there for sure, particularly if it's a busy tourist day. It's worth the visit though, if your sweet tooth is hounding you and Rocket Fizz down the street doesn't quite have what you're looking for. read more

If any of you know me, you know that I'm the proverbial kid in any candy store I happen to walk past. I love exploring new and exciting candies that I might not normally have experienced without visiting a candy store rather than the usual convenience/grocery stores I tend to stop at. On a recent trip to Palm Springs, I parked along a street and walked past this place. Then I got caught in the sugar vacuum that pulls me into such places. I can't avoid it, I need to go in and explore the candies. Taffies, candy bars, assorted old-timey hard candies and souvenirs surrounded me as I walked in. Instinctively I picked up a basket and began to pick and choose a few of the more interesting flavors. After I had a few, I asked the girls behind the counter about how many taffies were in a quarter pound. (Bulk Candies were about 6 per quarter pound) With some giggles, they informed me, and then also pointed to a big sign that read "about 16" So I searched around the buckets, and lost count eventually. I returned to the counter with my basket, laden with candy. I also picked up a package of candy cigarettes for my smoker friend. I figure that sugar cigarettes are better for you than actual cigarettes. With a cheery Hello and a friendly smile, one of the girls rang me up, and I handed her my card. I spent about eleven and change on my treats. She then handed me a flavor menu to help identify the candies I had chosen. I suppose that was a better plan than my original plan, which involved guessing, hoping and probably a bit of surprise when I hit the chicken & waffles flavored taffy.
