To start the gun store has some nice firearms, and they are not afraid to charge msrp or even over it seemed. Add that to the $50.00 transfer fee and all of a sudden this is not the place to purchase. Knowing the high price they charge to shoot Sporting Clays there, a group of us shot their Ridge Sporting Clays course expecting a top notch experience. The course itself was laid out as expected with nothing special. The targets were all the same size and had only decent arrangement. We kept waiting for the good stuff. Sad to say that never happened. As anyone knows the throwers will malfunction at any course. With one expected "no bird" when the button was depressed on 5 of 14 of the stations, this was acceptable to us. Until we went to pay. They charged us over .50 per extra count. They literally give you ZERO extra birds or no-throws on the 100 machines. With other ranges giving 40 per 100, we didn't expect to pay for 22 over. It's not the cost per se, it's the audacity. This place is way overpriced and very underwhelming. My group of shooters will not be back there. read more

Josh was amazing! Very helpful and patient. He provided a lot of information and did not make me feel awkward for asking anything. He provided me with plenty of options on available firearms for the weight and size I was looking to purchase. I had very little knowledge about this sport. He demoed a Syren L4S Sporting and was patient with me while I face timed someone to get a final approval. Josh helped me understand loading the gun, how to shoulder it, aiming stance, the line of focus, where the clays would eject from and how high and the difficulty of each station and the color of the clays. He also broke the gun down for me when we cased it and showed me what to use to clean it. He listened to me and what I was looking for. He saw my struggles with the weight and handling of some of the rifles and presented options. This was a great overall experience and I would highly recommend anyone to check out this secluded gun store and ask for Josh! He is the best. read more

The price of entry isn't too bad. It's clean and organized and the cashiers are super nice but the only complaint I have is the really old range officer that doesn't seem so happy to work there and has a hard time at multi-tasking as in watching the range and checking to see if any new shooters are trying to enter the range. also, I wish I could shoot farther than 100 yards. but other than that, it is a great range. read more

Such a great place! The service at the counter was very friendly. The range officer gave great advice with my pistol grip and approached with caution and much respect (wears a cowboy hat). It was several months ago that I came to the range for the first time to sight in my shotgun, and also brought along an AR 15 to shoot for the first time. When I made an inquiry with the Ranger, about shooting both firearms, he made a snarky comment out loud "hey everybody, looks like Rambo's here". Really? My first impression on the range. I unfortunately did not get his name, but I really I did not appreciate the condescending, self-righteous attitude of this jerk one bit. The range is nice, but I'm Not sure why this guy was allowed to be so condescending, and treat visitors like this. read more

It is hard to write this review being that I have been going to this place since they opened. The people who work here are scumbags with the exception of one lady who has been there the whole time. Their machines malfunction quite a bit but when you tell them about it at the desk they act like you are trying to scam them out of free targets. Also have witnessed some incredibly dangerous safety violations at the range. Most employees have a bad attitude. Pat is just trying to scam and skimp his way to some more cash. Shameful. read more

Awesome outdoor gun range. The staff are all very friendly, courteous, and gun enthusiasts. Facility is kept very clean and they have a wide range of guns in their shop. One of the biggest CZ dealers in Michigan. Their steel target days are also a lot of gun. On those days they allow rapid fire. Pricing is a bit on the high side for an outdoor range when compared to something like Pontiac Lake, which is $4 for the whole day on the range and skeet area. read more

I have been going to bald mountain shooting range for the past 10+ years. As of late the new range officers a rude, condescending, and have a minimal people skills. I drive just over 45 minutes to continuously give my business to bald mountain but the new range officers are making me start to think twice about making that drive read more

It's been a year since I have been to this range. The clays lock up constantly on the course and it's $.50 a clay. The guy on the range made it not enjoyable, he was constantly on us about 3 seconds between rounds when it was 7 seconds. We have visited ranges all over and never had not enjoyed our experience until now. No need to be confrontational. We will be taking our business to Waterford. read more

I shoot here every chance I get, it is my "go to" range of choice. Range officer Joe is an excellent example of what a range officer should be. Safety #1 at all times, but never with an attitude as at some other ranges. I've made several new and previously owned firearm purchases here also. Prices always fair, competitive and office staff very knowledgeable/professional and above all friendly. No "storm trooper attitude" here for sure. Big shout out to Gina and rest of the team ! This place was amazing, besides one of the employees, who thought they were Clint Eastwood telling me how to shoot my gun, yelling at me and humiliating me in front of many people . I felt he was only doing it because I am younger than most people at the range even though my skills are probably better than 95%. He followed me out of the range tormenting me threatening to fight me because he was "bigger" than I am, I walked away because it wouldn't have been a good scene for him . After leaving and talking to Tyler the manager, we got to stay , and I ended up Buying a firearm and skeet shooting . I have to say the Manager Tyler who I saw on Saturday 2/27 was very very helpful. Handgun range is the worst I've been to! If you want to stand around 50 percent of the time than this is the place for you. The stalls are aweful, the way it is operated is a travesty! 6 rounds only in a mag and about every ten minutes you have to wait around for everyone to switch out there targets which takes a minute especially for the long range which is so well places next to the handgun range. What a waste of time! I can go through a hundred round box in a half or so a little longer if I really want to take my time, here it took me almost 2 hours!!!!! They need to make some serious changes! The staff was ok but if your foot even touches a small blip of the yellow line on accident prepare to get yelled at! Waste of time and money will never be back. read more

I've never shot a gun before and I have huge reservations about guns; safety qualms and all of that. This place was $15 entrance and I came with a group that already had guns. Bullets were purchased outside. There are rules and decorum to gun shooting and I greatly appreciate how professional the staff was. This place is the best kept secret in Michigan if you're a shooting fan, especially if you're a shotgunner. This IS a world-class facility, a MUST SEE! Operated by world class shooter Pat Lieske, a humble friendly guy who is regularly there himself, awesomely friendly and helpful staff, 80 different Sporting Clays target presentations on 2 courses to choose from not even counting the 5 Stand and the "Executive" clays courses, and now they are even stocking everything from entry level to high end shotguns, rifles and handguns from makers like Beretta, Sig Sauer, Caesar Guerini, Fabarm, Blaser, Browning, CZ, and more! This place is amazing! Bald Mountain also host several shoots and leagues during the year to keep you on your game. In addition to the shotgun courses, they also have rifle and pistol ranges at 25, 50, and 100 yards, and a 3D archery course. They no longer have Skeet or Trap, just FYI. I wish they still had at least 1 combination skeet and trap field but they do not. The old skeet houses were unstable and dangerous, so they took them down and put in the Executive clays course. Oh well, you can't have everything I guess. I am so fortunate to live so close. My clays shooting has improved quite a bit in that last 2 years due to the help I've been given by talking to Vince, one of the instructors, and buying Pat's really excellent Sporting Clays DVD. That DVD is the best shooting training I've seen anywhere. It fit my style perfectly and filled out the parts that were missing in my overall technique. Soon I will probably take a few lessons with Pat or Vince, now that I've gotten about as far as I can go by myself. I've learned so much from just being around there I'm starting to get other people from work involved in the sport and teaching them everything I know as well. It's great to see the sport growing right in my own back yard! The best part is this is all open to the public, and is a Michigan State Park. Just don't forget your State Park pass and you'll have a great time! Kids are welcomed here and encouraged to shoot also, on both the shotgun and rifle/pistol ranges. Very convenient location; range setup is good, and the Range Officers are friendly, competent and firm. It can take a while to switch or set up targets, but that is the price of safety. If you don't like it, go somewhere else. It is always clean and well-maintained. Haven't done winter shooting yet, but will very shortly. Will probably buy an annual membership. I like that they require shooters to have good discipline in handling firearms. Some folks don't like that, but it is essential to safety. read more

Been going to this place for years. Rifle and pistol range leave a bit to be desired, but it was close and tolerable. After the DNR privatized it, the fees went from $3 to $5 to $7 to $10, and now they are $15 - plus the $10 park sticker. In that time, there have been virtually no improvements to the stalls or range. I can't justify continuing to go. I was there today and only 3 lanes were being used. The RO said there's been a lot of backlash over the 50% increase in fees, and nobody got a raise. The place is still very time consuming with the archaic rules and lack of modern target zip lines. It's still the old wait til the RO calls time, and trudge down to the target area and wait everybody gets back. It gets to be very tedious. Time to move on and find someplace else to shoot. read more
