It was the day before and I had been charged with clearing my mother in laws apartment in her care…read morefacility. Many large furniture pieces, bags to take and cabinets to empty. All items that didn't fit into or weren't allowed at her new apartment. We didn't want her paying two costs so "clear the room by tomorrow if possible" Last time she moved we used her care facilities own crew and it had cost many thousands of dollars, this was different but similar and we decided to make it happen our own way. Junkluggers was a name offered from her care facility (in a confusion of email I though the recommendation came from a family member, nice mix up). I like green so I started here and after a phone walk through furniture count with Junkluggers got a reasonable quote. They also were able to have their crew on site at 8am the next morning, perfect for our needs and I am a morning guy so great. I meet them and get an on site estimate that is a couple hundred under my phone estimate and we are off to the races at 8am! These two young men are polite, have a big truck, strong young backs and are very hard working. In two hours my mother in laws second floor apartment is empty and I am tipping these guys for a nice lunch, job very well done. After that job, Junkluggers has become my So Cal junk removal company ! ! !

I found Orange County Rescue Mission and I love the support they provide for the community so I decided I wanted to give my donations to them. Orange County Rescue Mission is open Friday to Wednesday from 8am-5pm, Closed Thursdays. They have a convenient area for you to drive up, and their volunteers are super nice and will be more than happy to help you lift and unload your donations. Donation receipts available upon request.

I've previously had my donations picked up, or gone to donation bins, or dropped a few things off at Goodwill. Orange County Rescue Mission has a drive thru drop-off for your donations. I had 5 boxes, so a lovely gentleman brought a bin on wheels over and helped me put my boxes inside. He asked if I would need a receipt for my taxes but I politely declined. I do believe the items I donated had good value but I don't have much experience with taxes and previous receipts I've gotten usually end up missing by tax season. Prior to donating my things, I was able to go on their website and see exactly what items they accept. This helped a LOT because there were actually a lot of items I wouldn't have even considered donating like unused toiletries. I would probably try to give them to a family member or a friend of perhaps end up just tossing it away. I'm really glad they provide a list of acceptable items for donating!! I hope other people who wish to donate items really do READ lists such as this one, so they are aware of what can be donated. I just remembered people from my past who would try to donate opened foods, & insisted they were still good because they were non-perishables. Some people just don't know you can't donate ANYTHING. I don't understand people who donate things that they wouldn't use, if the same or similar item were donated to them (in the same manner). Some behaviors are perplexing. Anyway!! I LOVE this place and I'm currently working on filling up another 3 boxes. I'll have to go buy some more boxes so I can start sorting through my storage unit as well!! I do have a few questions on some items and what condition they must be in to be accepted for donation. I'm pretty sure they had a number on the same page that I could call and ask, which I will be doing, just haven't gotten around to it yet! I'm really happy I found this place & recommend others to donate items & volunteer here if they have the time! (:

This review is just for the compost…read more Came here for roughly 20 cubic feet of compost soil. It was all free through reservations in their website. You can't beat free! I was apprehensive about coming here, not knowing what to expect. But the whole process was super easy. Drive up towards the main office and follow the signs to the compost heap. It's located on the side of the parking lot. Back your car/truck right up to the heap and start shoveling. The compost itself isn't that rich loamy material that you make at home. There is a high percentage of "browns" in there. So using it as a compost amendment isn't as effective as manure. But since it's all for free, I just use it straight, as potting soil. Saves you a ton of money, particularly if you're trying to fill a sizable raised bed. Side note, this stuff is fresh. It was quite warm even on a cold day. It doesn't stink like poop but it does give off quite a bit of ammonia.

As a contractor you must know where every landfill is. The only problem I can think of with this…read moreone is that they require you to have your contractors license card on you when you dump. No card, no dumping. It's a long haul to send a worker and you forget to give him your card. Doh!!
