A couple of months ago, while traveling around Lake Tahoe, my brothers and I unexpectedly ended up in Carson City and decided to try this amazing place. I just recently remembered to write this review, and it's actually the first restaurant review I've ever written. I had never tried Indonesian food before, but this place truly impressed me. I ordered the chicken sate, and my two brothers ordered fish dishes. Every single dish was incredibly delicious. The flavors were rich, well-balanced, and perfectly cooked. You could really taste the authenticity and care in the food. I've been living in the U.S. for about two years now, and honestly, I haven't found food this good before. It was that memorable. On top of the amazing food, the service was excellent. Chef and the gentleman were friendly, welcoming. It really meant a lot to me. If I ever visit that area again, I definitely plan to come back and eat here. I highly recommend Bali Express to anyone who wants to try authentic and flavorful Indonesian cuisine. My first visit to Bali Express was a big win. I came in to place a to-go order. The staff greeted me right away. I used the touch screen to order and the staff came over to see if I needed any help. I ordered lumpia and pancit with chicken. I wish the lumpia had meat in it, but the sauce definitely made me forget about that. It was a sweet and spicy. The pancit with chicken was delicious. 11 out of 10, and plentiful. The lady even gave me a complimentary bottle of water while I waited. I'll definitely be back. I want to try the chicken skewers and coconut rice next. read more

Tried Bali Express for the first time at Tesla, the owner was extremely accommodating & informative in regard to their menu. Their lemongrass chicken + coconut rice was okay, I don't know why but I was expecting the coconut rice to have some flavor but it was just like plain white rice. I also bought their Thai tea & did not expect it to taste like water, wish they had the sweetened ones, considering it's $5 a bottle. I'd probably give it another shot, maybe it was just a bad day but for a $15 plate I had higher expectations. read more

This is one of my favorite food trucks in Reno! I don't have a lot of knowledge or experience with Balinese or Indonesian food to compare it to, but it's one of the few places where spicy food is actually spicy - almost every Thai and Indian place out here seems to cater to white people's version of "spicy" so it was a pleasant surprise to get food that at least seemed authentic (I wouldn't really know about the authenticity one way or the other, but it definitely had home cooking vibes). There were also plenty of milder and non-spicy options, which we enjoyed too! The owners are super sweet as well, and had such a cute story that made feel like you can really sense the passion they put into everything. I would definitely recommend it, and hope that one day they can open a sit down restaurant in town. read more

I have lived and worked in Bali and this food was not Indonesian or Balinese. The satay ended up being deep fried KFC style chicken, with no satay flavoring, on a stick. If you have never had Indonesian food this would work for you but don't waste your money. The Nasi Goreng did not seem fried and had no cashew nuts or meats. The Mei Goreng was alright but still seemed lacking. The Gado Gado was great big chunks of fried potato and the sauce was non-existent. Even the peanut sauce had no flavor. The jalapeno sauce was tasty, the sambal not spicy. All in all very disappointed. read more

Bali Express - Lemmon grass chicken with yellow coconut rice, rendang with white rice - Food Trucks Near Me - Carson City, Nevada

The beef rendang has great flavors and the right amount of heat but the beef could be more tender. The yellow rice that came with it was bland and of poor quality, maybe because it was served from a food truck. Portions were small for the $15 price tag. Overall it was a good dish and I'd recommend it for your Indo foodie fix. I'll definitely visit their brick and mortar to help support their business. read more

I had been reading mixed reviews and decided to try them since they were parked locally. The owner is extremely friendly and even provides some karaoke entertainment. The food itself, well mine anyway, left a lot to be desired. My chow mein was extremely greasy and my lumpia was not true lumpia sadly. I was given (4)1 inch×1inch wraps filled with a single chunk of chicken, a slice of carrot and more grease . My son's food however looked, smelt and tasted DELICIOUS. He eats there any chance he sees them and they have become one of his go-to's. I will definitly try them again, maybe they had an off day. read more

Service was excellent. Food was awesome, with tons of flavor. I had the Lemon Grass Chicken, my wife had the Rendang, and we both shared the Tahu Isi. I swear, that Tahu Isi tasted just like chicken, which for being Tofu based, was excellent. The most legit southeast Asian food in the greater Reno area, and from a food truck no less! Their sambals are amazingly authentic, and I love their special dish-of-the-week in addition to their classic lumpia and chicken rendang. What an absolute gem found in the same building as Carson lanes I get a vegetarian noodle dish called pansit (add chicken) very good if your feeling a little froggy for spicy, ask the owner, what the spiciest item on the menu is and he will be glad to point it out.(I forget every time) It is definitely one of the spiciest items in Carson City obviously not as spicy as some of the really hot chicken spots that burn your insides but It will light you up. And 10/10 flavor definitely a must try. There lumpia is is not a filipino lumpia like I thought but it still has an ok flavor. I personally prefer Filipino lumpia and a lot of people get Bolognese lumpia mixed with Filipino lumpia but I'm just a big foodie and I know the difference. Good luck finishing all the food in on sitting..... the Mexican food that they sell is mediocre. I just stick to the Bolognese food when I go in from now on. They could use a part time employee to fill drinks sell more beer table side and clean tables but as a business owner I understand why the don't do that at this time a lot of room to host parties tho!!!!! read more

I am so glad we finally have Indonesian food in Reno! I have waited so long for this. I usually get their food from Friday food trucks, so this is the review for that particular experience. Although out of a truck, the food is extraordinarily made and tastes beyond amazing! The dishes are authentic, delicious, and fresh. I wish I discovered them sooner! They have vegetarian options, and their drinks are refreshing! My go-to as a vegetarian are mee goreng (fried noodles) and tahu isi (stuffed tofu with vegetables). I wish they also offered nasi goreng (fried rice) here too. I cannot wait until they become a sit-down restaurant! read more

Where in Northern NV could you possibly imagine you could get authentic Balinese food? In Carson City! This little city is badly in need of new, different restaurants and Bali Express arrived to spice things up. The owner is a delightful Balinese lady who is happy to share her recipes with us and we are so lucky they decided to open this restaurant. They share their space with a taco establishment, but we only tried her food. Everything we had was phenomenal; spicy and flavorful. We adore hot food, and the sambal oelek added some extra heat. If no heat is desired, just leave out the spicy condiment and order the non-spicy dishes. The owner also had us try a special Balinese condiment she'd made with lemongrass, and it was outstanding! You just can't duplicate these flavors, they're amazing. We generally only eat tofu and you can add that to most the dishes, which we loved. Truly wonderful establishment, I hope Carson City makes this place rock! Because I'd hate to lose them. read more

The tall male with little to no hair server was absolutely horrible to one of my friends because the server had given her someone else's food. He demanded her to pay for the food she was given by mistake and bullied her into publicly apologizing to the person whose food got mixed up. Now I find out the owner doesn't believe me that my food was swimming in oil. I may be old but doesn't mean I'm not well traveled. I have had my fair share of food other than meat and potatoes. No where did I say do not use oil. Oil is a base of flavor and conductor of heat. Oil temperature for frying the chicken was too low. So the chicken was saturated in oil. Drowned out the flavor of the chicken and batter. There was about a quarter cup of oil at the bottom of my dish. Before I said I'd give it a second try. Beyond amazing food, the best service I've ever received from a food truck. I wasn't even looking for food when they allured me in with a free sample of their famous rendang ! I had to come back for a full portion size. When I went back, I forgot to get his name, but the gentleman was still standing outside of the food truck greeting customers, and helping them feel comfortable with the culture alongside the amazing food being served! I look forward to trying more of their dishes, and I hope to see them flourish as a business! read more

During a pie get-together I pointed out to my friend that there was a food truck up front of the Revision brewery. I noticed the business and remembered them from a recent Yelp event, sampling their tasty dessert. The owner has a personality that stands out, and a radiant smile. We were fortunate enough to have samples to try, and I appreciated the menu with photos as I was learning the type of culture. The sample unfortunately was too spicy for me but I went with an always winner of lumpia. My friend ordered a full meal and it looked amazing. I only wish there was options to have lesser "heat" in the food. I loved hearing the story of how the business came to be and the wife's dream of owning a food truck. They were hopping the whole time we were in line. Somehow we ended up waiting a longer time than others but the owners were great and gave us extras since we were stuck out in the cold. I think my favorite thing was after getting the food and going inside seeing the owner bust out an Ipad and microphone and start Karaoke. I even saw fellow folks from my pie-get together belting tunes out there. It was really great! The lumpia were fresh, hot, and delicious. Definitely a win! read more

Barry and his wife are amazing. Very new to the game, a small kitchen truck with big big talent to back it up. Sure the truck may be small, but don't let that fool you. When it comes to Balinese food. They don't play. They came to run the show and show everyone just who Bali Express is. With a huge support system and amazing backing from other local food trucks that are in the game. If you ever can't decide what you wanna eat, take the risk and make the gamble. Bali express has your back and they wanna keep you fed with something that's not been done before! Can't wait to see where they go from here!
