Consistently quality, fresh sushi and excellent customer service. Well worth the drive from any side of town Stopped in for a an a la carte treat, didn't realize there are items offered only on the a la carte Kei is great, always!!

2 sushi rolls but one was not rolled good that it was falling apart after dipping in soy sauce.

What an average and rather disappointing experience vs other times. We came in for dinner. Service was slow but it was busy. We ordered 2 of the Hawaiian Chicken. They have a lunch price and a dinner price which is of course more expensive. We have ordered it at lunch before and enjoyed it. When we received it (as a dinner for more money) whoever scooped up the chicken to put in the pineapple went so skimpy that it was a smaller than when we ordered it for lunch! We also ordered a couple of rolls. One was falling apart when picking up. I had all you could eat and I enjoyed it but again getting our servers attention was hard. This visit was not impressive at all.

Overall restaurant was clean (our menus were slightly sticky and could have used a wipe-down) and was dimly lit. All of the employees were friendly and checked on us often. The sushi chef was quick with making rolls and did a great job interacting with us as we were sitting at the sushi bar. All of the sushi was balanced with the fish to rice ratio. The fish was fresh and of good quality. I definitely will be returning soon.

Literally the best fresh fish I've ever had. Mussels and raw nigiri are my favorite. My favorite rolls is probably the Ninja and Alligator. But I live trying something different too. The salmon skin is so good. Sometimes I just want the Sashimi. It's that fresh! It's a small restaurant, so make a reservation for a party of more than 5 or 6 at least a day before. Just fyi

First visit to Kei sushi in Carson City. There's also a location in Reno. This is a small restaurant off of route 50 in Carson. It's in a shopping mall, strip mall. There are about 20 tables and the sushi bar available for seating. We were seated promptly and asked if we were having all you can eat which is available for $33.99 at dinner time. There's also a selection of signature cocktails, wine and beer. We enjoyed a Merlot and Zinfandel. We were a group of four so we ordered to share. There is an extensive menu of rolls, hand rolls, appetizers. All you can eat is unlimited appetizers and rolls plus ice cream for dessert. The sushi was served promptly and everything was fresh and delicious. I especially like the baked mussels and the grasshopper roll. We tried probably 10 different roles so they were all good. I recommend this restaurant for fresh and tasty sushi. It is also open for lunch.

I have yet to eat inside the restaurant, but it's always clean and the staff are always friendly. I was greeted for a to go order. This was my 2nd time picking up from here and both times the food has been amazing. I got the Fuji Mountain Roll this trip. It was so delicious. Lots of yummyness in this roll. Will eventually go to eat inside. I love this place for sushi. Go try ya some

Sooooooo good. Loved sitting at the counter and watching them make the sushi rolls. A food artist. Very helpful and friendly. This is an all u eat sushi. But 1 or 2 were enough for me, so i ordered ala cart. We arrived after 8pm and the place was packed. Good sign its good and it def was great. Great service.

I love going to Kei because the service is always great, their nigiri is my favorite from an all you can eat spot in town, and they have a great selection of rolls with lemon slices. This was my first time at the Carson location, and I appreciated how it was a more intimate vibe than the restaurant in Reno. I am so happy we can get great sushi when visiting family in Carson!

The service at Kei is decent. Nothing over the top but they do check in on you and despite being constantly busy the food rolls out within a reasonable time. The rolls and nigiri are all very tasty. They have great fun combos like the salmon lover which is a texture dream if you like that, packs a little crunch into the roll on top. We liked almost everything we got which lately when I've ordered rolls at restaurants they have seemed bland. I did not have that experience with Kei. We had to wait an hour since we didn't have a reservation. They were up front about the wait. What it tells me as we say watching is the place is crazy busy which is usually a great sign. I'd suggest to make a reservation if you plan to go!

On a previous visit, I was seated in the back of the restaurant, which I was fine with at first, until I realized that's also where staff eat. One employee sat down near me on his break and was loudly eating with his mouth open, shoveling food in with his chopsticks right in my line of sight. It was uncomfortable and honestly pretty gross, to the point that I asked to move tables. On my most recent visit, the service was again disappointing. After my drink was dropped off, my server basically disappeared -- no check‑ins, no options offered, and it took a long time to get anyone's attention for simple things like refills or the check, even though it wasn't that busy. The sushi itself is fine and the prices are reasonable, but between being seated next to an employee loudly eating his break meal and the consistently inattentive service, it's hard to relax and feel like a valued customer. With other sushi options in the area, I'd rather go somewhere that feels a bit more professional and attentive.

It was my first time there, and my server Jamie was really friendly and helpful. He walked me through the menu, and I ended up going with à la carte so I could try a few things. The wagyu was delicious and cooked perfectly, and the cauliflower was amazing too. The Toyosu fish was really refreshing. I also thought it was really cool that they source fish from Japan every couple of days. That definitely shows the level of quality they're going for. I'll definitely be back, and next time I want to try the full course. The restaurant itself is beautiful overall. Only small thing for me was that it got a little smoky at times, and the wine tasted slightly old, although my server confirmed the bottle had been opened recently. It honestly may have just been the wine I chose. Still a great experience overall.

We spent around $700 for two people and it was one of the most disappointing dining experiences we've had -- not just in Tahoe, but anywhere near this price point. The food was wildly inconsistent. Several dishes were overly salty to the point where it completely overpowered everything else. Others were just forgettable (like the beet salad). For a tasting menu that's supposed to be carefully curated, it felt sloppy and poorly thought out. On top of that, the portions were tiny -- even by fine dining standards -- and we left still hungry, which is pretty unacceptable given what we paid. For example the fish was probably a 3-4 oz portion. Many of the dishes were the same size as the a la carte menu, but for the tasting were meant to be shared for 2 adults. That means you are paying 400 dollars for dishes that can be bought for 40 bucks on the menu. The exact same size.... What is going on.... Service was just as frustrating. It wasn't outright rude, but it was disorganized and careless in ways that really matter. We ordered an extra dish and no one bothered to tell us it was already included in the tasting menu -- so we ended up paying extra for something redundant. That's a basic failure and honestly felt borderline deceptive. Drink service was slow, and mis-timed. What really pushed it over the edge: my wife is pregnant, and instead of putting any real thought into substituting a raw fish/uni course, they gave her a duplicate of another dish already being served, and was a dish that we extra ordered. No creativity, no effort -- just the easiest possible workaround. For a restaurant trying to position itself as high-end, that's inexcusable. This place charges like a top-tier dining experience but delivers something far below that level. It feels like they're relying on hype and location rather than execution. Save your money. There are far better places in Tahoe (and beyond) that actually justify the price. Would not return.

The management changes of past years has brought back pros who have lived and immersed in Japan and Korea, and bring a sparkling authenticity to a place that had sometimes lost its way past decade. Weekend nights can be well jammed with ethnic Asian tourist ski families and globally experienced friends that know the real thing. Fresh gorgeous sushi, (and some great teriyaki chicken and beef for those who aren't into fish). Cold Japanese beers... cucumber salad, Bibimbap, tempura... just awesome. More Umami Needed!…read more SHORT Ver: Most selections lack flavor to true authentic originals. Service was friendly and adequate, hence my giving 2 I am Asian who has lived over 50 years in Hawaii and have eaten authentic Asian cuisine from around the Pacific and Asia so I'm qualified to make this statement! LONG Version: In heavily populated Asian communities,if we see a particular race eating at that races' restaurant, it's generally a signal that the food there is gonna be good! Makes sense, right? While visiting Tahoe today my family had a craving for sushi and based on the rating for Harumi Sushi (as of 6/26' is is 3.9 Stars) we decided to go for dinner. Walking in, we were met with friendly staff and Japanese chefs behind the sushi counter! (Good sign!) their menu is mostly Japanese with some Korean dishes. I was also pleasantly surprised that there were a lot of Asian families also seated but I wasn't sure if that was a good gauge as I suspected that these families were all probably like ours-visiting from outside of the area. I crossed my fingers. We ordered various sushi rolls, a Tonkotsu Ramen, Tempura Udon, Pork Tonkatsu, and a Dotsolbop. Kitchen help must've been short staffed because each dish came out singly with minutes in between the next single dish and by the time the last dish came out, the first few people had already been long finished. First: Tonkotsu Ramen soup broth was completely tasteless. I have packaged Tonkotsu Ramen from my Asian store in Vegas that has much more flavor and body that the one I had. The noodles were simply noodles, the egg was not ajitama. It was simply a half boiled egg. The rest of the dish was not appealing nor tasty at all. Even the charsiu tasted old if not just pan fried for presentation! I could not finish it. The Tempura with the udon was adequate for an AYCE Japanese style buffet so, 'mid' as my kids would say. The udon, I was told wasn't bad, I guess I should've order the Shoyu Ramen instead. The Tonkatsu also fared better in taste rating than my ramen. The Dot Sol Bop came after everyone was finished eating. It had chopped lettuce on it among a couple other non traditional looking veggies. There was very little meat in it. After adding the kochujang sauce and tasting, it was the strangest version of this dish I have ever tasted. The vinegar flavor coming from each bite was so overwhelming. We didn't know if it came from the rice mixture or from the kochujang sauce. Not even half of this dish was eaten. And this was with half the group sampling it. No one wanted to finish this dish. The sushi rolls looked like they were a little on the old side however all said the sushi was pretty good. Not amazing, but adequate. Mid range quality ingredients. My conclusion is that the quality of the ingredients is in need of some improvements. The sushi chefs are getting the job done with what they have. The cooked dishes, however, need to be reexamined If you truly know what Asian cuisine is because you've grown up with it and/or have experienced it, you will walk away disappointed especially if you order a non-sushi entree. The staff were nice though!
