The food was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was uplifting. Service was impeccable. Joe Laub, the owner was so incredibly gracious and donated the meal to the 10 IDF soldiers that Warrior Gratitude brought to Tahoe for a week long retreat. (Warriorgratitude.org). We had a great time and will continue to support Sumi Sushi.

All I can say is you just have to come here! You won't be disappointed! It's all you can eat for $40 and well worth it! The guys making the sushi are absolutely amazing! It seems chaotic but they all know what they are doing! We sat at the sushi bar and was great! It's a small place but atmosphere was probably what you would expect from a sushi place. The sushi was so delicious. I can't say I've had better anywhere else and we've eaten sushi a lot of different places.

Sumi Sushi sliding back into my top sushi set after a recent visit with the family forced me to focus on the raw, fish forward offerings that were simultaneously free of anything fried, which led to some significant sushi discoveries! First off, nigiri. These are HUGE and they come with a sizable slab of sashimi cut fish on top too. Pro-tip is to order less than you think you'll eat, because the size is sure to surprise and they will fill you up quickly. Don't sleep on the specialty nigiri here OR he Scallop Supreme appetizer, which is seared scallop sashimi! Second, sticking with the size matters theme, the hand rolls. Spicy salmon, spicy scallop and scallop OG are all stellar, and you will be blown away by the amount of seafood stacked in these when they arrive. One is easily an entire maki roll worth of filling and you will be stoked when you sink your teeth in. I definitely ordered at least two spicy salmon hand rolls and should have had a third. Third, massive maki, perfectly proportioned and portioned for sharing. Do yourself a favor and order the Pink Fire with spicy yellowtail seared with togarashi, sesame oil, salt & pepper wrapped in soy paper, then topped with seared tuna, yummy sauce, teriyaki, ponzu, green onions, chili flakes, & sesame seeds. The Double Down is another winner with salmon, tuna, yellowtail on the inside, then topped with salmon, tuna, yellowtail, tobiko, avocado. FOURTH, don't skip dessert! Can you say house-made ice cream?? I can and I'd say it two or three times here if they'd let me. This stuff is SERIOUSLY good. Desserts are not an afterthought here and you need to save room. FIFTH, last but 100% the most important and not least, SERVICE IS STELLAR! Yes. They are on it. They love what they serve. They're a solid team and this place wins as a result! Take the short drive to excellent sushi!

I dropped by for lunch last week and to get my sushi craving out of the way; it's insatiable. I was greeted and seated promptly at the bar per my request and I sat in front of Charles. He was amazing! Friendly and offered fast service. One thing I enjoy about sitting at the bar is being able to interact with the sushi chefs. Charles and I chatted about our island roots. If you enjoy Hamachi kama, Sumi sushi does it right! I'll have to come back for this again in the near future. My mouth is watering writing this review. I didn't know the last visit that this was a locally owned establishment hence their clever name. While in on lunch I was eating next to one of the Laubs meanwhile enjoying the Laub special. He made small talk and we shared a laugh. I kind of like their set up with two bars, one in each room and the tables around. Food and Service was phenomenal. Thank you Charles and Valeria; I'll be back next time I'm on this side of Carson!

Had lunch with a friend before doing Carson's Wine Walk. I am very critical when it comes to sushi. Sumi is the best sushi I've had in the area. Tge fish was fresh and the ratio of rice to fish was perfect. The lunch special left me feeling full and it was priced right. The servers checked-in frequent enough but not to a point it was annoying. The restaurant has setting in the front as well as the back where the sushi bar is. It would be great if Sumi offered patio seating and hope they will consider adding. Other than that, I look forward to visiting again.

Great sushi, affordable, and super friendly staff. Was visiting and found this place on yelp, get the all you can eat. It had great portions and the quality was excellent.

Honestly when we saw this place, we thought "oh wow, another Gweilo establishment" but honestly was pretty impressed. We found parking right in front but do note it's a busy main street. The staffs were very busy, definitely overworked. Everything we ate was better than average, definitely surpised us as we come from the Bay Area where we get the best of the best sushi.

Wow! This place has the absolute best AYCE sushi. The fish was incredibly fresh and super high quality! The hamachi, escolar, and salmon was my favorite. The green lipped mussels were to die for but, beware, they include 4 per order which is not listed on the menu (hence this outrageous photo ) As others have mentioned, they have gigantic nigiri pieces so order half of what you usually get. This place does not skimp on fish in any of their items- especially their hand rolls. Scarlett was a wonderful, accommodating server who provided excellent service! Highly recommend trying Sumi!

FOOD: - Lunch special was a steal! I like that it's available every day. - - Any 2 rolls for $20.95: we got the Laub Roll (4.5/5) and the Spider Roll (4/5). - - Sushi burrito for $13.95: you pick any roll and they make it into a burrito. We picked the Cap N' Crunch. 4/5 - Chicken Teriyaki: big portion. My son loved the chicken. He said it was the best teriyaki chicken he's ever had. It came with shrimp and vegetable tempura and miso soup. The tempura was nice and crunchy. 5/5 - Fried gyoza: 3 pieces. It was good but for the price we normally get 5 or 6. 4/5 SERVICE: Good service. Our bill came out wrong but it was corrected. 4/5 FINAL THOUGHTS: I would come back. The food was pretty good and the price was mostly fair.

Had the pleasure of eating here a second time. The staff is so attentive and helpful, especially with my GF needs. Skyler, Patrick and Sarah were above and beyond. Sarah actually remembered me, even though it had been 6 months since my last visit! Generous portions, beautiful creations on the rolls, fresh and tasty all around. And, can we talk about vibes? The decor is great, the music is bumpin', the entire staff is in good spirits, and we were treated like family. Just a fun place to be. Worth the drive from Reno!

A bit disappointed with my visit to sumi. I've heard great things so I have been very excited to try. I just moved to Carson and figured it would be the perfect time to finally stop in. When we came in, we were one of only two tables in the whole restaurant but somehow got some of the worst service I've experienced in sushi. It was so slow, no one checked on us one time except the times I literally would flag people down. No one brought us extra AYCE sheets until I flagged them down. No one asked us if we liked our food. Only got our waters refilled one time. I didn't like my dessert I chose and had to flag someone down after 15 minutes to request something else. For how dead it was in the restaurant this was extremely surprising to us. I would have ordered more food but with how unbelievably slow it was we ended up running out of time. For the few non dessert rolls we did get to try, they were delicious! Which is why I'm giving 3 stars and not less. Food was great we really enjoyed everything we got. This place is the most expensive AYCE I've ever gotten at $40 a person, and for that price tag I can't imagine coming back to receive poor service. Also, one of the two servers working would go outside the front door to hangout and smoke with what I presume was a customer. It's fine to take a break but to do it one foot outside the front door smoking was pretty gross. We had to walk by to leave and it seemed very out of place and not what I would expect from a $100 dinner.

Super sexy in the front and dragon in the back!
    Wil S.

My server Delilah was the best! I use to come here with my mother and since she's gone, this is the first time back and I thought it would be sad but Delilah made the experience amazing, she was attentive, polite and just engaging, there were other staff to assist but she definitely carrying the team! I will be back again the next time I'm in CC. The food is always great! Jalapeño poppers, seared scallop, miso soup, upside shrimp, and super sexy rolls are always on point! The place is clean and the staff is nice! Don't forget the green tea ice cream to end it all (for mom)! Thank you Sumi Sushi

Hi, how much does all you can eat buffet cost for a 7-year-old kid?

The website says kids 12 and under are $14.99: https://sumi-sushi.com/menu

Do they have a bar. Saki beer?

just sake and beer, but no full bar, so no tequila shots with sushi, there was a place in Carson we did that.

Restaurant review - oishi sushi in Carson City NV…read more It's evacuation time! At the time of this writing the Hawk fire is going on and a group of us evacuees wanted some sushi in Carson City. Keep in mind, we were HUNGRY, as it had been a really hectic busy couple of days. Two options presented themselves, both in the same parking area, and Oishi was one of them. However, I had questions, So I called. Do they have soy wrap, since my wife doesn't eat nori? Yes. And, are they ADA compliant, as my wife has a ACL tear and is in a wheelchair? They said yes. And so we told our friends to head to Oishi and we would meet them there. Found out quickly the restaurant was baaaarely ADA compliant. It was Very, very narrow, and hard to navigate with a wheel chair. If there are people sitting in tables, everyone has to get up and move in order to get the chair around. So, just a little awkward, before we even get to the table. Which we finally get to. We ordered drinks at 5:40. Drained my tea at 6pm....and didn't get a refill till 6:17. A Buddy ordered cold sake at 5:40 as well.... but never got it. He Asked again at 6:17, and finally got it at 6:26. We turned in our food order slip at 5:50pm. First food to arrive was Miso soup at 6:05. Honestly one of the better miso soups I've had from places like this. Perfectly salted and seasoned. Green onion and a little kombu as well. I dig it. Bunch of apps got to the table at 6:21. First was Tempura tofu. Crispy crunchy hot tofu cube served with sweet chili sauce. Good stuff, though the tofu itself wasn't marinaded or anything. Still, not bad. Yakiton, stuffed with crab salad and sweet sauce on top. Big size, satisfying. Like a giant crab salad egg roll. Potsickers. Crispy crunchy edges but tender filling.... really nice. Crab ball was pretty great too! Like a giant crab salad meatball with toppings, and really crispy. Bunch of rolls got to the table at 6:30. Most were pretty great. However, my wife's Special rolls with soy paper still had not come out by 6:45. So I asked about them. They asked "ok, you know it's a dollar extra per roll right?" Told them yes.... didn't care....my wife couldn't eat nori. Five minutes later she got her soy paper rolls, at 6:50. Both of which she reported enjoying a lot. However, at 6:50 the table still hadn't gotten the nigiri. It was officially an hour after it had been ordered at this point and we were hungry! And then five minutes later, we got some of the nigiri, at 6:55. Got the rest around 7:05. Honestly? Kinda worth the wait. Nigiri had really thick pieces on top of well seasoned rice with sesame seeds on it. Some awkward cuts of fish present, torn edges and such, but we went late in the day so it's expected. Most was Very satisfying. Seared tuna and pepper tuna were two of my favorites, but the eel was very good as well. Everything was Served on wooden boats too, Honestly kinda fun. And the staff? Really nice. Little older lady, huge smile, really funny and friendly. Dessert was served at 7:20pm. While everyone was eating I asked their opinions. Well my friends who had been imbibing the "all you can drink hot sake with all you can eat" said they loved it. I, one of the only non drinkers there, also really liked the food, though the wait was a little bothersome. But honestly, our friends had a really good time, we all left full, all of what we got was pretty good, and I was left feeling that I'd like to go back. Though I might wait until my wife is out of the wheelchair before I do so, and hopefully there isn't a evacuation going on. 4 out of 5 stars.

These did not disappoint! Properly cooked. NOT chewy/rubbery. Slight kick to them. I ate a few orders! Lol. I also had the Donald duck, Cajun salmon, Okie dokie and the Geisha. The Cajun salmon surprised me with the flavor. I wish I could have ate more but I was so full at the end. Donald duck was the normal you'd expect at any sushi place. The Jalapeños on the Geisha were tempura style and so good. The Okie dokie was a little off. Some bites were over powered with cream while other bites did not have any cream cheese. Unfortunately it ended up being one of the more disappointing all-you-can-eat sushi experiences I've ever had. We were seated around 6:15 p.m. and got our drinks fairly quickly. I asked for water with lemon but received plain water in a stainless steel tumbler. The cup looked nice enough, although it left a metallic taste. We placed our appetizer and sushi order around 6:20 p.m. Miso soup arrived about five minutes later. It was light and tasty with tofu, green onions, and seaweed, though it could have used a little more seasoning. The first appetizers came out around 6:40 p.m. The yakiton was filled mostly with krab salad and had a slightly cold center. It wasn't bad, but it lacked the crispy exterior I was expecting. The popcorn shrimp was completely coated in sweet chili sauce, which softened any crunch it might have had, and it had a slightly fishy aftertaste. The pot stickers were fully cooked and generously filled with a decent flavor, but they were pale and not crisp at all. Things went downhill from there. My wife ordered a Guapo Roll wrapped in soy paper but never received it. We were eventually told the kitchen was backed up and that it would be put on the "next ticket." By that point, the experience had already become frustrating. Several appetizers simply never arrived with the rest of the food. When we asked about them, the staff couldn't explain why. They finally showed up around 7:00 p.m., but they weren't worth the wait. The egg roll wrappers were visiblly undercooked, with raw funny wrapper, and tasted like something you'd cook from a frozen food isle. The fried oysters were gummy and had the texture of biting into uncooked dough with a fishy center. The fried scallops were bland, fishy, and lacked any crispness. Overall, nearly every fried item seemed undercooked or improperly fried. One thing I also noticed was how many rolls rely on the same ingredients. It felt like almost every specialty roll contained either krab mix or salmon, making the menu seem less varied than it first appears. Hope you like krab salad and salmon thirty different ways! The bright spot was the nigiri. The fish tasted fresh, the rice was well prepared, and both the eel and Cajun tuna were enjoyable. I wish I had just gotten a bunch of that. I also thought the Big Man Roll and Macho Roll were solid choices and would probably order those again. Unfortunately, they weren't enough to save the overall experience. For $117 for three people and two sodas, I expected much better food quality, consistency, and service. Final rating: 2 out of 5 stars. The two stars are earned almost entirely by the nigiri. Between the missing orders, inconsistent service, and underwhelming fried food, I don't see myself returning.

A jalapeno stuffed with cream cheese battered and deep fried and sliced like a roll. Not really want I expected in a sushi place , but I guess it works here. Other more traditional offerings were available, though with that abundance of hot sauce. The dining ambiance is not what I called fine dining, but more a working class vibe ... especially listening to the swearing and cussing from a nearby table. Will be back when we have a big group so we can have variety. Our service was good. 3% credit card transaction fee.

We checked this place out recently and it quickly jumped to the top of our sushi list in town…read more First thing that stood out was the freshness of the fish. You can absolutely taste the quality. The menu has a ton of options too, from classic rolls to more creative choices, so it's easy to find something you're in the mood for. I ordered the Snow Mountain Roll and it was amazing. Definitely one I'd get again. We also tried the Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck rolls and both were super fresh and really well done. The jalapeño poppers were seriously yummy too and made a great appetizer. Service was fast, friendly, and really attentive without being over the top. The staff made the whole experience smooth from start to finish. The vibe inside was great too. Cool, relaxed atmosphere that makes it a fun spot whether you're going for a a casual dinner or meeting friends. Honestly the only regret is that I didn't take pictures before we started eating because everything looked as good as it tasted. Overall, great food, great service, great vibe. Safe to say we found a new go to sushi spot and we'll definitely be back.

Great prices on the rolls. However, flavor was lacking. Frankly, the rolls were boring. Boring…read morelooking and boring tasting. I wished they had other items that were not sushi, like hot items - fried rice, stir fried noodles, etc. I guess you could come here, but only if you live close by, to satisfy a quick sushi craving. But don't bother if you live more than 10 min away.
