My last review before America turns 250. So glad I ate at The Basil Restaurant. The complimentary cabbage soup was delicious, as was my entree: spicy cashew tofu stirfry with white rice and a mesclun salad dressed in a peanut sauce. Aun's attentive service was first rate as well which made for a perfect meal. If you find yourself hungry and in Carson City, a visit to The Basil Restaurant is a must.

Came in for a quick dinner after a day of touring Tahoe and were amazed at the quality of food and the considerate service. We were told that they were out of the mango roll and when we were disappointed our server offered to go make a fresh one for us if we were willing to wait. Of course we were and so glad we did - it was amazing!! Highly recommend!! The coconut soup with rice was delicious and we finished off with mango sticky rice - a favorite Thai treat! The food was exceptional! And the interior reflected Thai culture everywhere you looked. A truly authentic Thai food experience!

The food is cooked to order so fresh we enjoyed every bite of it. The atmosphere is spacious and decorated with authentic Thai items. The service is impeccable will definitely visit again and highly recommend.

Way better than any other Thai place around. Great service. Good food. We will be back soon.

    12. Papaya Salad - 5, no peanuts ($13.95)

Date: Monday, November 3rd, 2025 Time: around 12:45pm Party of: 2 Meal: Lunch Takeaway 12. Papaya Salad - 5, no peanuts ($13.95) L-5 Kapow (Basil) - Ground Chicken, 5 ($14.95) L-11 Green Curry - Chicken, Brown Rice, 5 ($15.95) L-15 Pad Thai - Chicken & Shrimp, 3 ($15.95) The hubby had to run to Carson City for an errand so I asked him to pick up lunch. This Thai spot seemed popular, so we decided to check them out. He walked in and placed the order. I wanted the papaya salad and green curry. The curry had a nice consistency. Clung well to the brown rice. The salad dressing I found rather sweet in their lunch specials, so I added hot sauce to cut into it. The papaya salad was mixed well and had a nice texture. I tend to like my thai food with lots of heat, so I found everything rather mild for their highest spice level. The hubs thought he was ordering a normal portion of pad thai, but we ended up with the lunch special which was fine. He seemed to enjoy his two items as he finished them both. Not sure what Thai options are around in Carson City, but this is a solid spot for more milder flavors. REVIEW #3909

I love this place. It has the most amazing Thai food. Great ingredients. The presentation is top tier. The preparation is would class. I definitely recommend the green papaya salad. It's off the charts delicious and refreshing. The servers are nice and attentive, even when it's busy. I have gone each week for the last month and plan on making it go regularly. Nice clean restaurant ane smells like heaven.

Found ourselves in Carson and looking for some lunch, and The Basil sounded good. Popped in at lunch time and order a couple lunch specials: DH had the basil chicken wide noodle and I had a chicken/shrimp spicy with fried rice. A delicious lunch, beautifully decorated restaurant and good service. Would go back and try the other specials....

Quality/Quantity - Came here for lunch today for my monthly (sometimes weekly) visits to Carson City; support local. Today we got the following lunch specials: Pork Pad Thai - Decent portion, okay flavors. Not as authentic as I expected, but still good. Nice to also have a soup which I gave to my wife. Not a soup drinker and this one I did not favor. And also a salad. My salad had the same/similar sauce/dressing as my Pad Thai. Chicken KraPow - My wife enjoyed this. She says it is what she usually gets/expects but it was missing the eggplant. Atmosphere - Good size location. Cool decor, see pictures. 2 hour street parking which was more than enough time for lunch. Open 6 days a week. Mondays to Fridays from 11am to 8:30pm, and on Saturday from 4pm to 9pm. Closed Sundays. Clean men's and women's restrooms. Service - 5 stars. Everyone was friendly and efficient. And such hard workers. Also great job with your menu with pictures. Price - $32 + tip. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 2004. You have a good team here; take care of the people that take care of you.

Wow! I am seriously amazed by this find in the middle of Carson City. This was the best Thai food I've ever had, I'm seriously, seriously amazed. Lovely date night ambiance feel, amazing presentation of food, and on top of that, the food tasted amazing!!! The curry and pad Thai was SO tasty and the right amount of savory and sweet. The mango was also surprisingly sweet. I'd drive all the way to Carson city just for this restaurant! Definitely going to come again. Service was also very friendly :)

The portions were generous with plenty of leftovers to pack up in takeout boxes for enjoying for another day. My favorite three were the ahi tuna, the black cod and the brilliant asian/french mash up of red Bean Creme Brulee. I also need to mention, I loved the lamb tenderloin. I am not a big lamb fan, but this New Zealand lamb was tender and non-gamey. The owners did an outstanding job of timing the dishes and engaging with our group while also taking care of other diners including non event patrons getting getting take-out and inhouse menu dining. The space is very small, but even with and almost full house, it didn't feel cramped. Even though Kwok's is right across the street from where I live, this restaurant would be at the top of my list of "I would drive out of my way to eat here"

It was cooler inside but once service started, it started to get hot and didn't feel much AC. Ordered the duck noodle soup, shrimp and beef clay pot, and tofu with vegetables. Everything was cooked properly (veggies cooked perfectly, shrimp & protein were on point and not overdone) BUT the flavors are subtle. Seasoning could've been increased just a bit on everything - lacked salt. Overall, would come here again for another round.

It's perfectly crisp 5/5 - Hamachi and Asian Pear and Aji Amarillo: fish is fresh, pear is good, and the cubed soy sauce all work surprisingly well together 5/5 - Ten layer Pork Tonkatsu and Black garlic: I love the hint of wasabi flavor, but you don't actually feel the spiciness of it. 5/5 - Chicken Skin Skewers: very crispy and thin on the outside and soft on the inside. 5/5 - Chicken Thigh Skewers: the chicken is not dry at all and the green onions helps bring out the flavor more 5/5 - Bone Broth ramen: pork is great, but the noodles, and broth tastes like a wonton soup . The egg yolk tasted different 3/5 - Battleship: the fries are thin and crispy which I love. The cheese balls and meat are good. The curry is good and it should come with a bowl of rice 5/5 - Gyoza: it's more a dumpling, a little too acidic but the meat is very flavorful 4/5 There was no wait this time on a Friday evening. Parking is fairly easy, with plenty of street spaces nearby, and an easy walk if you're already hanging around the neighborhood. The service was friendly and fairly prompt, and even for a weekday night the place was bustling, leading to a bit of a backup. Cool vibes all around, and it's neat to sit at the bar and watch the chefs do their thing. Though it does mean this is a little bit on the noisy side. Look at the menu, and there are tons of tempting options. As the name suggests, their specialty here is small plate off the grill or out fo the fryer. But they do serve really good-looking ramen, too, which I will make not to try next time I swing by. I at first went with a quick bite of grilled chicken thighs, which were just amazing! They were juicy, eprfectly seared, with some grilled green onions and an amazing sweet soy sauce. I also went with the yakionigiri, which are balls of rice that are grilled, brushed with sauce, and topped with a sort of mango slaw. A bit uncommon, but wow, these were also just so delicious! Also had a glass of sake, though they have a full bar should you want some other sort of beverage. Prices here are, I feel, a little on the higher end for small plates. However, I think it is definitely worth coming and trying this place out at least once or twice, just to expereince some of the good food. I'm sorry it took me so long to finally step through the doors, but I am certain I will be back again to try more of what's on the menu.

One thing we noticed right away was that the bonchon was already set on the tables before guests arrived. It wasn't a large spread--just a small tin of cheese corn and a divided tray with kimchi, bean sprouts, and fish cake--not sure how long they were left out and did look and taste dry. The servers seemed to work well together. Different team members checked on us, cleared dishes, served food, and helped other's tables. Once it got busier, they also used robot servers to help deliver food. We started with the salad with house dressing and the popcorn chicken. Both were good, and the chicken was nice and moist. For the BBQ, we ordered the Chardol, Ju Mul Luck, Hawaiian Steak, Tri-Tip Bulgogi, and Galbi (short ribs). Having eaten at quite a few Korean BBQ restaurants in Las Vegas, we noticed the portions here were a bit smaller. They also limit each round to three appetizers and four meat selections. Overall, the service was good, and we especially appreciated Eurie for being friendly and attentive. The only thing that concerned us was when another server changed our grill. Instead of lightly drizzling oil onto the grill, she forcefully squeezed the bottle, causing the oil to shoot out onto grill. It seemed like an unnecessary safety risk for both guests and employees. Our favorites were definitely the Tri-Tip Bulgogi and the Galbi. Both were flavorful and tender. The Chardol was good, but the slices were very thin and the portion felt a little small. The restaurant filled up quickly between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m., so it's clearly a popular spot. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and would come back for the Tri-Tip Bulgogi, Galbi, and the teamwork displayed by the staff.
