The line moves fast, two sausages in crusty bread and lashings of mustard or ketchup. Great cheap snack for eating the hoof. Don't miss it
We had the original Bosna here. Loved it. The original comes with just the sausage and small diced onions/parsley and a spiced powder. This small (truly) a hole in the wall has a great food. Been in this spot for 75 years and going. Worth the wait. There were 15 or so people in line at any given time.
The place was hard to find, but after struggling a bit we finally found it. Thankfully, there was no line, just lot of folks standing around and enjoying their meal. It's literally a hole in the wall join, two ladies working inside. One lady cooking the sausages, the other taking orders and making the sandwich. We got the original, it was decent, but I wasn't "full", so I ordered #2 and honestly, I liked the #2 better than the original (#1), but it all comes down to personal preferences. I liked the bread, it was crispy outside, chewy inside. Over, decent, they also sell beer, the line moves fast, food comes out quickly.

It is a kind of hot dog said to have originated in Salzburg. It consists of a grilled sausage with curry powder placed between bread with onions and parsley. It was a nice and quick snack.
Tasty sandwich with parsley, onions, spice blend, and we got the #2 that includes mustard. Line was long, but it moved quick. It's worth the wait. Look for #33 above the archway.
Super popular Balkan brat sandwich with a long line. On this day it took 20 minutes to get to the little booth with 2 ladies working inside. Not sure what the hype is about these Balkan hotdogs because there are many other places offering these Balkan hotdogs.
This is the best spot to get a quick snack if you're in the old town area. The sausages are cooked fresh. The bread is seared and crisped just enough. Even the onions area seared just right. You're only going to pay just a few euros for anything on the menu. A line may form but it moves super fast. This hole in the wall is located in an alley and not on a major street. Pat attention to where you need to turn into the alley and look for the group waiting to order!
The Balkan-Grill is Historic sausage stand that has been in Salzburg since 1950 serving a Bulgarian take on a bratwurst called a Bosna. Basically it's a thin pork sausage mixed with curry, paprika, maybe some mustard seed. The thin wurst are grilled so to get some snap to the casing. I like that they put 2 thin links on the toasted bun, which kept the wurst to bun ratio even. I got the original number 1 which had chopped onion and parsley and some more of the spice blend added. Hindsight, I should have gotten some ketchup on it, as I did find it a bit dry, thus the 4 stars. But definitely something you should get as a snack when walking around Salzburg. Tasty with a unique flavor because of the curry seasoning.

The sausage is snappy, the curry powder adds a little heat, and everything is tucked into a nicely toasted bun. I recommend ordering the option with mustard (senf)! It's tucked in an alley, but you'll see it shortly after turning in.

The food was nice, double sausages grilled right in front of you. It was tasty and the service was very quick. Nice ambiance of a street food vendor. I would definitely come back and try again. A little expensive at €4.9 for how little food you are getting compared to a durum.
The US has its hot dog and Austria has its bosna and it was so good. The Bosna was created here in Salzburg at this very location. The restaurant was located in a passageway between two buildings off the main shopping street Getreidgassee in the Alstadt. This was a perfect rest stop since it was a little cooler and of course shaded. It was even better without any line since we came in the middle of the afternoon for a light snack. The basic Bosna was served with 2 pork sausages in a long, toasted bun with their unique curry spice, parsley, and raw onions. The other options added mustard or ketchup or omitted the parsley and onion. While the basic Bosna was quite delicious (nice snap to the sausage, moist and flavorful), the mustard version really added more moisture and tang that my SO and I agreed was the best choice. Cash is preferred though credit cards were accepted. A definite must try dish when visiting Salzburg. read more
This place has been very written up on many websites like Yelp and Trip Advisor so I had to try it out. It was a bit hard to find since it's in a small passage between two shopping streets. The line for ordering was long (about 15-20 deep) around 1:30pm but it moved fast. There are basically 6 variations of the sausage sandwich (which it is like a panini). The bread was crunchy and toasty...warm and fresh. The sausage (2 per sandwich) were delicious and nicely dressed. For about US$7 this was a great deal. Yummy, delicious and cheap. read more

The original Bosna! Bosna's kinda like a hot dog -- 2 bratwurst sausages, onions, and a blend of curry powder and/or ketchup and mustard. Founded in 1950, Balkan Grill Water sells only 5 different types of bosna using a combination of different toppings. I tried the #1, #2, and #4, and they were all fantastic. Each one is only €3.80 (cash only)! The stall is hidden in an alleyway of Old Town, but there's guaranteed to be a line. Don't be discouraged though, because it moves super fast. One bosna was enough for me, but you can easily get two if you're starving. read more

This shack is hidden inside an alley and serves what is essentially an interesting grilled hotdog with spices and toppings. It's a little more expensive than some of the other places that sell similar stuff, but it is the cheapest food you will find in Salzburg. Definitely recommend it for a snack in between sightseeing. read more
This place was really hard to find! But hey, don't give up - it exists! It's tucked in a small alley, but if you see a long line anytime during the day, you know you're in the right place. Also, the line moves moderately fast, as I spent no more than 2 minutes at the window. This tiny kitchen pumps out orders like a powerhouse. The menu is short and simple. Just 5 variations of the Curry Bosna, an Austrian street food I really wanted to try. I ordered the #5, which included the bosna (sausage), curry powder, and ketchup in a bun. It's a good price and a satisfying fast food meal. Obviously, way better than American hot dogs. read more
Located in a small alley and hard to find but worth the effort. It's a hole in the wall and is operated by a very friendly older lady. The menu is very small, 5 variations of sausages with spices. I've tried them all, you won't be disappointed. And they are relatively cheap, 3,70€ each as of June 2018. read more

Absolutely fantastic! My girlfriend and I had to stop here on our way through Salzburg and we couldn't be happier that we did. We heard the line was usually very long so we expected a wait but instead there was just two people in front of us. We got our food rather quickly and were not disappointed. The sausages were snappy any perfectly seasoned. The onions were a perfect touch. Loved our experience! read more

Run by a little old lady, this tiny shop in the wall is is located halfway up the alley that breaks off of the beginning part of Getreidegasse. There is a lighted Red sign that says, "Bosna Grill" but the shop is called "Balkan Grill." The "bosna" is two thin sausages put in the middle of a toasted, sliced bun with curry powder and onions & parsley for just €3.30. It is apparently a local specialty of Salzburg and it does give the air of tasty, homey comfort food! The lady doesn't speak much English but all you need to do is choose from the 5 numbered options of condiments (translated on the side of the window). The sausages were crispy on the outside and had an interesting kick ( but not spicy) from the curry powder dusted on top. i had mine with ketchup, and I wonder why America doesn't have hot dogs made this way. This might be one of the best hot dogs I've had for sure. read more
Cheap and delicious, what's not to love? Finding this tiny (seriously, tiny) place is a little challenging as it's down a narrow, mostly covered alleyway in the old part of town, but it's worth it. We got lucky with the line, but by the time we ordered it had doubled, so your mileage may vary. The #2 was our favorite, but if you don't like onions there is an option without them as well, but this place really only serves six variation of a Balkan hot dog, there are no really sides, not are there vegetarian or other specialty options. If you're in the mood for a sausage, this is your place, if not then you're not going to find something. read more

This place is literally the definition of a hole in the wall. We got lost trying to find Balkan Grill... walked by it several times before we finally located it. Keep your eyes peeled for a sign saying "Bosna", it is hidden in a side alley. We ordered the wurst with onions and curry powder for 3 euros. The wurst itself was crispy and the toppings contributed to a unique flavour. It was different from any other wurst we have had. Definitely a hidden gem within the main tourist area. read more

Small, hard to find, but a hidden gem. Food was great. Very unique experience. Long line but it moves fast. It's basically a sausage/hot dog and the only variations are the ingredients. Nice ladies behind the counter. They don't like pictures but I snapped on super quick. read more
