Called about getting a 7 inch piece of sheet metal for behind new stove. Was given the quote of $700 with no breakdown for materials, installation. We were able to get a piece of sheet metal for $38 at another store and paid a handyman $150 to come and install it. A lot less than $700!! read more

Needed some steel plates last minute for a job today (like REALLY last minute). Called multiple companies and no one could cut them for us in time because they were 1/2" thick. Greg not only agreed to cut us 1/4" plates in time instead (just twice as many), he welded them together and ground down the edges. I called him yesterday afternoon just before 3:00 PM, and he had them ready by 7:30 AM this morning for us. He saved us a ton of time and went above and beyond to help. Needed something TIG welded. Pretty simple job and they did a great job of it. The reason it isn't a 5-star for me is that it was a little pricey for such a small and simple weld. I didn't end up checking out any other places but I bet it would be similarly priced but I trust the quality of these guys. read more

I had Ballard Sheet Metal fabricate a part for the steering vane on my sailboat. It was a last minute job before we sailed to Mexico for a year so I didn't find the problems till we were way down the coast. Everything that could have possibly gone wrong with the manufacture of this part did. From the drilling of the wrong size holes to not having the holes in the upper flange line up with the holes in the bottom flange, to the welds failing off the coast of Mexico (we had a welder in La Paz reweld it and he said that air got into the previous weld). If I didn't have a safety line attached to the rudder, we would have lost it. I spent over $300 for this part and it failed miserably. So I can not recommend using Ballard Sheet Metal for any custom fabrication. read more

Only place that was able to repair a broken hinge on my bowrider boat windshield! After months of talking with various folks and struggling on my own BSM really helped me out. Greg was easy to communicate with via email and phone. I had heard good things from a couple of different cabinet people so we went with them for our kitchen backsplash.

I went in on a Thursday morning (when they opened) with a drawing of what I needed, which is a covering for a catwalk for our house. After speaking with someone there, I was told that I would need to wait a day to get an estimate. Called Friday afternoon and was told by the architectural PM Lisa, that it is on her desk to get out by end of day. Called Tuesday morning and spoke to Lisa again, who said she got tied up with something and will get it to me in a couple of minutes. 45 minutes later I get an email with the information. It said that I would have to rivet end caps on the site when I was told by Kap that would be done and caulked beforehand. Very poor level of responsiveness, oblivious to the customer's urgency. My assumption is that had I not called, it would be a few days longer to get just the estimate. Their prices were also higher. All in all a disappointing experience, but I am glad it happened before I actually committed to purchasing from them. read more

For a big job, their quote was outrageous and didn't cover everything; they had poor customer service. For a small job, they charged me 100 dollars--2x the estimate--just to cut a small duct. My advice: find someone else!!!!! read more

If you want something fast & cheap this is not the place to go but if you want quality and are willing to wait your turn this shop is the best. They were very courteous & professional at explaining the work to be done, all the choices and the costs for the different weights. Extremely poor customer service. The receptionist was polite and directed me to the right person, but then anybody else who is an actual fabricator or boss were way too busy for my business. After sending in plans to them to fabricate a little 4'X1.5' chimney cap, it took 3 days and lots of returned calls to finally talk to somebody. So1 hour later (after talking to a rep), he sent me an e-mail with a bid for 1000 dollars to fabricate a chimney cap! I asked why so much and he stated it was because its union labor and you pay for what you get (25 dollars worth of 16 gauge metal and 1 hour of time 2 max! it was a perfect rectangle no tricky parts). What a joke. I do not know about larger scale companies (bigger than residential remodeling) but I would not recommend these people to anybody. I can see this place pittering out to box store competition based on other reviews, poor customer service, astronomical prices and the whole "we dont give a crap were in a union deal". Do not waste your time!!!! read more

I've had numerous small projects completed by them over the last 10-years or so and have always been very pleased. Some welding, bending, fabrication, etc. and even some light machine work. They are a union shop, they treat their people right, they are experts at what they do. If you want a lowball estimate and shoddy work, go somewhere else. read more
