Lifetime Tax Service

Lifetime Tax Service

(1 review)

Dear Fellow Tax Payers:…read more Not all tax preparers are the same and I've been lucky enough to find one that is head and shoulders above the rest without costing me an arm and a leg. We had noticed that the accountant we were previously using to prepare our income tax returns had been steadily increasing prices as the economy and our disposable income had begun dropping. At the same time, our confidence in his numbers had been declining partially due to the lack of face to face contact with him and his lack of availability to be reached on occasion. Out of the blue, we received a postcard in the mail last year from Lifetime Tax Service and the timing couldn't have been better. I looked at their website and made an appointment to visit them and that was the best decision we had made. Their office is very clean and the staff, true professionals in every sense of the word. But being a skeptic (and a former accountant many, many years ago), I wasn't going to let appearances sway me. I wanted to know if these people knew how to prepare complicated, out-of-state returns with various deductions, credits, etc. We met with Tom Ervolina and after our initial meeting, I stopped being so guarded and had complete confidence in him. He was very thorough and asked questions that our previous accountant neglected to ask -- questions that had an impact on our bottom line. He had a checklist and provided us with a copy of what was still needed and within a few short days, every "T" was crossed and every "i" was dotted and voilà -- our returns were completed. He even caught mistakes that our previous CPA had overlooked -- mistakes that had been going on for several years! (When confronted about it, the former accountant apologized, admitted his oversight and ended up filing amended returns for us.) I think the most shocking part of all of this was the price. They charged half of what our previous CPA charged and the quality and thoroughness of their work was twice as good! This year, we used Lifetime Tax Service again and it was actually a pleasure visiting them because I knew that in addition to helping us file accurate returns, they were working in our best interest. Everything is explained in clear and simple terms (no confusing jargon) and their friendly personalities are definitely helpful when dealing with something as dry and boring as income taxes. Also this year, we opted for a copy of our returns on CD instead of a printed hard copy and I was completely surprised by how thorough they are -- all documents that were handed to them for preparation had been scanned and included on the disc as well so if we are ever audited, there is a paper trail to follow. So in addition to being honest, reliable, knowledgeable, and cost-friendly, they're also modern and efficient. Go use Lifetime Tax Service -- they rock! Sincerely, Head Cheerleader for Lifetime Tax Service P.S. They also do financial planning, but I'll review that part of their services when I actually have some finances to plan with.

American Bank

I have used this bank for a long time, and while I have always had friendly interactions in-person,…read morethe trouble started when I was no longer 100% local. I kept this bank when I went to college, and even though I consistently told them I would be between Allentown and Long Island, there were holds put on my card somewhat frequently for normal purchases. I pushed through, mainly for the longevity I'd been with them and my family's relationships with them as well. Flash forward to now, when I frequently travel between NYC, Orlando, Chicago, and Allentown. Not only are holds put on my card even when I specifically call them and tell them I'm travelling, they actually YELLED at me that I had to change my billing address even though the address listed is one of the homes that I frequent. When I refused, they insisted by sending me the form to complete. No thank you, that's one of my homes. To further make it difficult to use your debit card, any time you use one of the mobile POS systems that smaller businesses and things like fairs and flee markets have, it is flagged because the billing address is somewhere else. Unlike other banks that send you an email and ask if it's you, they instead put a hold on your whole card without verifying with you. Overall, just inconvenient, and often lacks friendly service over the phone. If you want to be lectured by "customer service" representatives, look no further. It's a shame too- the building is beautiful and some of the people I've spoken to there have been really nice, it's either a few with bad attitudes or maybe they decide to drop the charade over the phone. UPDATE: When American Bank did not have my new number (which I faxed in over 4 weeks ago because it needed to be a written change if it was phone number and email, and was told their system was down but they were sure they got it), they contacted my father instead, who also banks there. It should be noted I'm in my late 20s. User beware if you give an honest review here, they will call your parents.

My primary benefit using this bank is no fee checks ( I'm a "senior", and I use their online banking for almost all of my bill payments. This saves me time and money. I also like the fact they have some Saturday hours. The location is closeby and convenient. It is a bit of a downside because there are no branches.
