We were visiting from Paris and chose to go here three mornings in a row, even though it was on a block with four bakeries. The cinnamon rolls are delicious (though would be better heated up and eaten with a fork), the little chocolate filled donuts (Belinas xocolate?) were a hit with the kids, and the madalene muffins and French pastries were all enjoyed. The cappuccino was very milky, but it had such a good flavor that we thought it was a tasty addition to breakfast. Note: some Yelp photos and reviews show indoor dining as a option at this location, but what we saw was a narrow store with just counter service. I got a chocolate croissant which was really light and flaky and was filled with a decent amount of chocolate. Also got a cheese cake square. It had chocolate cake bottom and was subtly sweet. This beautiful warm pastry shop and bread bakery was next door to our hotel. It didn't take long to find this wonderful treasure! The people were incredibly kind and patient with me as I used my combination of English and high school Spanish. We had a beautiful selection of pastry and coffee in the morning. That night, with all of the amazing restaurants in this area, we decided to go back and get an assortment of sandwiches and more pastry. Everyone is so remarkably gracious and helpful. We had one breakfast on their back patio and it was magical. Everything is immaculate. I know if I lived in this beautiful elegant neighborhood, I would be here every morning. I typically don't leave reviews but I have to review this place for all the solo travelers. This place is very unfriendly to solo travelers. They told me there is no table for me so I have to do takeout when I placed the order. Being understanding, I agreed to it. Only to find out there are still a few tables available during my checkout. I asked the cashier again whether I can find a table and they said no. I believe they just don't want to give tables to single person. This is such an unpleasant experience. Tuna salad has lots of fresh tuna, sun-dried tomato and olives. Sandwich with cheese, arugula and sun-dried tomatoes had unexpectedly delicious savory taste and the rustic bread was full of olives which made it perfect accomplishment. And dessert... Conceptualized by Anna Bellsolà, her childhood raised in bakeries by bakers clearly giving her an education in and passion for great Bread and classic techniques that have since birthed both her original store and the one now incorporated into the boutique hotel, guests arriving at Hotel Praktik by either the street or elevator will quickly be struck by the sheer volume of daily options, nearly three-dozen styles of Bread offered in the Restaurant's repertoire along with nearly as many sweet and savory smaller items available daily. Not known as a city for great Bread, the few historic bakeries of Barcelona mostly focusing on Desserts and Cakes with the artisan baking movement really only beginning to catch on in the last decade, it was with the Ham and Cheese saved for those more fond of savory breakfasts that attention next focused on two filled Croissants, the Almond unfortunately a bit too moist with filling that was neither Frangipane nor overly sweet but still too thick while the White Chocolate Marzipan option fared far better with airy pockets inside and plenty of creamy half-melted Chocolate Chips. Mostly impressed by the quality considering the volume, a wedge of Blueberry Coffee Cake slightly drier than those found Stateside but still pleasant with a lot of natural Fruit flavor, those looking for Forn Baluard's standout items should take a look at those filled with Custard, the glazed Apricots atop a lightly browned Crust still nice and sour with soft flesh while the Pinenut Brioche was soft and eggy even on the ends, not to mention the middle which was saturated and topped with Toasted Pinenuts and the contrasting texture of Pearl Sugar. read more

For service, go straight to the counter that says "caza pastelaria" jumping the bread line (that can be looong in the morning). The group we were traveling with sat down and bit into what they described as "wonderful" and "really tasty". I ventured on to find artisanal crafted logs of gluten. I search for a good bakery far and wide whenever i travel and Baluard kept popping up on my radar. I had a ham and cheese croissant with a delicious, hot cappuccino at Baluard. A breakfast combo favorite of mine. Super buttery pastry and a well made coffee drink. The ham and arugula baguette was nice though the intense crunch and thickness of the bread may tire some jaws! It's a beautiful space with lots of seating. My only challenge - it was such a confusing set up! I was sent back and forth to different counters. If you come too early, seating is only available to hotel guests so you can take your goods to go.
