While we were in Barcelona rushing to make an appointment I noticed this shop out of the corner of my eye.. it looked so good that we decided to come back just to try some of their treats and boy they did not disappoint. We tried one of their chocolate desserts, a chocolate chip cookie and a matcha drink. All of them were great.. so great that I ended up buying a pistachio brookie to go. To this day we regret not buying more stuff to bring back home. The service was great and quick. The place was clean and cute to dine in with a few tables! Had to try a gluten free bakery while in Barcelona of course (one of many). Chok is for chocolate but they didn't sell any actual chocolates... but there was a rotation of special flavored cinnamon rolls, rookies, brownies, mini cakes, cookies, and cheesecakes. There were a few loaves of bread but mostly there were those sweets and it seems they have those all the time. We got a regular cinnamon roll because the flavored ones didn't have as much of the frosting on it which is the best part, and a pistachio cream rookie... no im not sure what a rookie is but it looked like a Levain cookie (the famous one from NY) as it was a mountain of a dessert. We had both treats heated up... although they weren't actually hot lol. The cinnamon roll was on par with others I've had, maybe even slightly drier but the frosting was amazing and I still enjoyed it a lot. The rookie was quite decadent and the inside was an almost cake texture? Still quite tasty but I think both would've knocked it out of the park if they were actually hot and ooey gooey. There are two locations which is important to note. They aren't far apart but one of them is a traditional bakery with great treats, while the other is more specialized bakery that has Gluten Free and vegan options. For us it was important to find the Gluten Free location and when we did, we were so happy to find a lot of treat options available! We stumbled onto this store as we were making our way to the La Baqueria market. We walked in and were mesmerized by how all the desserts look like. We quickly made our way to lunch and came here for desserts and coffee after and were glad we did! Five stars for all the desserts we tried. To top it off, they have vegan and dairy free options. One of the highlights of my recent Barcelona trip! Finding good dairy-free desserts can be a challenge but Chok knocked it out of the park. They had a plethora of vegan options and the staff was super friendly and willing to explain their selection to us. It's not often that I ask about vegan options and are told it's faster to be told which items are NOT vegan! We found this completely accidentally while wandering around one afternoon and I almost convinced my boyfriend to move hotels so we could be closer to Chok (I'm kidding...mostly). I got a hazelnut chocolate cupcake that was simply divine and my boyfriend got the hot chocolate (which does have lactose) which he reported was rich and decadent. Yes, they as completely beautiful (and expensive!), but how sad to bite into a dry little donut. Both my husband and I ended up throwing ours in the garbage. Chok beckoned to us - we could see the storefront at the end of a crowded narrow street. Windows filled with pastry delights, wonderful smells compelling us to enter. I mean, who in their right mind passes up a Kinder flavored Berliner donut? Not this fatass American! I came, I saw, I totally ate that donut and it was everything I wanted it to be. This is my favorite Chok location located in Barcelona! It's right around the corner from La Boqueria so you can head there afterward. We lucked out with stopping by here on a rainy weekday afternoon and it was pretty empty. We came back on a weekend day with more friends only to find a line out the door! Tasty treats we tried: + OREO MINI CRONUT: good size for an individual! Topped with an Oreo with crushed Oreos mixed into the cream. This is perfect for cookies n' cream lovers. + RASPBERRY CHEESECAKE CRONUT: Raspberry jam with crushed graham crackers on top of the cream. Fruity and rich! + KINDER CRONUT: My favorite cronut!! Topped with hazelnut chocolate spread, crushed peanuts, and a piece of Kinder chocolate bar. This was a decadent treat and perfectly captures European chocolate flavors. The cronuts themselves had a light, flaky, and slightly crunchy texture. The owner was kind enough to offer us metal utensils to eat. A metal knife came in handy to cut them into pieces for 3 people! We did make a slight mess with the cream and icing though, haha. + CHOCOLATE BARS: I bought two dark chocolate bars (nuts & salt; mint) as treats to bring home. The flavors were amazing! Dark chocolate was smooth with no sour aftertaste. The salted nuts one actually had some crunchy corn bits in it, which was a unique texture and flavor. The mint one was really refreshing. If you're in the area, these make great gifts to bring back! + LATTE: This is probably my American background, but I felt like I was always in a caffeine deficiency in Spain. I got a regular latte here which tasted fine. Milk was very smooth. I probably should have asked for a double shot of espresso to get my caffeine kick. Or perhaps an Americano since I can't find regular drip coffee here. The display of this place is clean cut and droolworthy. I was strolling around with some friends in search of a lunch place and this place immediately caught our eye. I made a note to myself to come back after lunch and brought 12 girls with me. Everything that was on display to eat looked so delicious. This place is incredible. The assortment, colors, and creativity of their goods make you feel like you're in some sort of chocolate/dessert wonderland. Every item is a work of art. We came twice during our week long stay in Barcelona. Extremely clean, neat, and modern. The young lady helping us was so sweet. She explained the desserts that we asked about in full detail (her English was very good). Also, there is a single table and since we came in the evening it was vacant and we were able to sit and enjoy our sweets/coffee. Chok is not typical of the rest of the city. It's unique in that you won't find a place like this on every street. But at the same time, it's not unique in that it would fit right in New York, Los Angeles, Paris, or any other modern city as an upscale, foodie, touristy stop. Admittedly, the windows got me while I was on my way to the Boqueria. I was drawn to a tantalizing display of doughnuts and cronuts and cookies, oh my! So many tourists walked by to snap a photo, but I could smell pure poetry in the air. One whiff and I was a goner. I know this is a bold statement, but Chök may be the second most Instagrammable feature in this city (after the architecture, of course), and the cronuts were pretty darn good. The woman there was very accommodating and kind as we struggled to decide what to get! My friend who accompanied me actually doesn't eat chocolate but there were so many choices for her too! There were strawberry and pistachio flavored snacks as well as churros. I am a chocolate enthusiast on the other hand, and I can say with certainty everything was delicious! While strolling down the streets of Barcelona I noticed cronuts in the window. While this is a chocolatier, the cronuts were mesmerizing as I walked buy. I decided to stop in the store and join the line of patrons that were anxiously awaiting making a purchase. After waiting nearly 15 minutes I got to the front of the line only to find out that the caramel cronut that I had eyed.... was sold. I was told that a limited amount and flavors of the cronuts are made daily. Since this is a chocolatier... I decided to purchase few truffles instead. The truffles were rich, creamy, and bursting with sweet flavors. I was not disheartened and chose to return the next day in the morning to get my cronut. Well, I was not disappointed with my return visit. Superb! The caramel cronut was heavenly! The cronut was light, flaky, and rich. The cronut was the perfect cross between a donut and a croissant. The cronut was topped with a delectable caramel mouse. The staff was warm and friendly and very engaging. I purchased a cronut for that day and the next day as well to go with me on my trip to Madrid. This place is definitely somewhere I would visit again when I return to Barelona. So... while I have not made it to NYC to try the original cronut, I made it a point to try one when I came across it in Barcelona. read more

After reading all the reviews and seeing all of the drool worthy pictures, I had to see if this place lives up to the hype. Long story short, if you're in the area, it's worth a stop but I wouldn't go out of my way. I was looking for the pistachio cookie, but they did not have any left on both days that I popped in. Clearly, this is a popular cookie so it's surprising to me that they don't just make more of them. Creme Catalan donut: I got a creme Catalan donut since the dessert is so popular in Barcelona. I had high hopes for this donut, especially since it cost 4.50 euros. It's not a cheap donut, and the taste to price ratio just didn't match up. I prefer a softer, yeast based donut and this one was more on the cakey side. The creme tasted more like a vanilla pudding to me, so it wasn't as unique as I thought it'd be. I didn't want to waste it, so I guilted my husband into eating the rest LOL. Triple chocolate cookie: I am a cookie monster, so I had to try one of their cookies. This cookie has a good chew to it with a crispier outside and plenty of chocolate chips studded throughout the cookie. However, I prefer a dark chocolate cookie and it was just too sweet for me. I can usually polish off a cookie or two in one sitting, but I ended up having to split this cookie into two servings because it got to be too sweet for me. Even though the donut and cookie were just average to me, one star goes to their friendly service. The shop is small and you're rubbing elbows with everyone else in line when it gets busy. However, the staff kept their cool demeanor and patiently answered questions instead of rushing you through your purchase. read more
