So good! Baluard was right next to our hotel BARCELONA ONE. The staff wears funny, welcoming and helpful. They have soup and salads some days. I wish they had soup everyday . Delicious pizzas, hot chocolate, coffee and they bake all day. The reality is that finding something quick to eat in Spain is hard to do. Baluard solves the dilemma. Easily go in and grab yogurt with fruit, nuts and honey or fantastic pastries. They had a delicious Zucchini soup that I would have eaten everyday. I just walked out of the bakery. The smell of fresh bread and pastry is amazing and and I'm sure they taste pretty good too, but I will never go back again! The women behind the counter look miserable and their behavior just as. No eye contact to the point of not being sure she's addressing you. No smile. No thank you. Just slam the food down and move on. I totally understand being busy, but that's no excuse for poor manners and plain old rudeness. Amazing bakery in Barcelona! We got one of the ham/cheese pastries and a chocolate croissant which were both amazing. The dough is very buttery and flakey and the filling was amazing!! We also got two coffees - a cold one and a hot one and both were delicious. The atmosphere is also great too! Best breakfast I had in Barcelona. I only wish I'd discovered this place early on my trip so I could've come here everyday. This is downstairs from a hotel bakery and apparently you can only sit in if you're a guest of the hotel before 930 am. And then after 930 they only do sit in and don't let you take out. Which is confusing. But they do have another bakery by the same people around the corner that lets you take out. Anyhow, I've loved everytning I tried here. The cappucinos were great and so were the pastries. I had the ensaimada, apricot tart, the brioche looking thing with cream on top, and a few others I can't remember. It seems like this place is popular with tourists and locals alike. The staff is very nice as well and it's reasonably priced. read more

Stumbled into them while walking and looking for a place to have a small lunch. Got sandwich and salad and my wife got cheesecake for dessert. They are a bakery and obviously the bread was very fresh but it went beyond that as all other ingredients especially in salad were also very fresh and tasty. The bakery (there is also one in the Barcelonetta neighborhood) is located within the Praktik Hotel. Baluard has a good selection of bread, pastries, sandwiches, and coffee. I wish I could come here everyday. It's a long narrow bakery but the back opens up into the hotel check in and seating (indoor and outdoor) area for the bakery. There is also a glassed in kitchen where you can see them making the bread. The ordering system is a bit confusing but its basically cafeteria style - order, pay, wait and then grad your food and a find a seat in the back. I like to go in, find a spot to sit, then head back to order. The service isn't the greatest especially if you don't know a lot of Spanish like me. There isn't really a queue....just follow the locals...go up to anywhere on the counter and flag a server, point to what you want, and then pay. The servers will assemble everything onto a tray. I tried a couple of the jamon sandwiches (delicious), croissants, and the cappuccino or iced coffee (cafe frio) which they give you a hot espresso and a cup of ice. If you want milk, you need to specify with milk (con leche). I did forget once but they added it for me afterwards. The sandwiches are sooooo good. There is something about the bread in Barcelona...super thin crust that is extra crispy with a nice soft bouncy interior. I wish I had one now. Prior to experiencing Baluard in Barcelona, i spent 5 days consuming Baguette all over Paris...I can honesty say that this Bakery had one of the best loaves of bread that i have ever been so luck to enjoy. A massive, beautiful and round load of tomato bread was shared among me and my three friends fairly quickly. Perfectly crunchy, full of flavor, fresh tomatoes and still warm - i would pay $20 for that loaf right meow. The line is out the door although it moves very fast. This is, simply put, one of the best bakeries in Barcelona. There's really nothing that I've had here that isn't incredible. Their baguettes are close to perfection itself, with a thick crust and a delicious, soft texture inside. Try out their bocadillos with an orange juice -- it's a great light breakfast. read more
