We invited friends and family for an afternoon tasting, grabbed lunch from the café next door, and expected a warm local winery experience. Unfortunately, it turned into one of the most disappointing tasting room visits we've had. The biggest issue was the complete lack of hospitality and awareness toward an older woman in our group recovering from knee surgery. There was no accommodation, no concern, no acknowledgment whatsoever. Instead of any table service or attentiveness, we repeatedly had to get up and walk inside the tasting room over and over for every single pour. By the end of the tasting, we got more steps in than a cattle drive. The two ladies working behind the counter looked like they were counting the minutes until closing time. No smiles. No energy. No effort to educate us about the wines, engage with guests, or make anyone feel welcome. We honestly felt more like an inconvenience than paying customers. I've seen friendlier expressions on bulls during branding season. What makes this especially frustrating is that the tasting room wasn't even busy -- there were maybe three other couples there besides our group. This wasn't staff being overwhelmed. It simply came across as lazy, disengaged, and rude service. The only thing flowing less than the hospitality was the wine pours. What surprised us most is that we've visited several other local wineries in the area over the years and have consistently experienced warm hospitality, friendliness, and genuine customer care. So this experience really stood out -- and not in a good way. Usually wine country feels welcoming. Here, we felt like a herd that wandered into the wrong pasture. Such a shame because the location and concept have so much potential, and we really wanted to support a local winery so close to home. Sadly, our guests left just as disappointed as we did. I had the idea to come in to Newcastle Wine Shoppe & thought on a whim maybe they'd have some non-alcoholic wine. Although it was not a usual request for frequenters there, some people inside were very quick to help me and find what I was looking for. They were able to find the only non-alcoholic option somewhere in the back after looking for a while and phoning in someone who had insight on where it was. The inside was also nice as well and part of the large building that La Fornaretta is in. There's a bar area and some tables where some people were having some conversation and some light music playing. Everyone was very helpful and I appreciated my experience a lot.

A cute little gazebo and a number of tables and chairs on a beautiful hill overlooking a small vineyard. Don't expect a Napa castle and 'chic' gift shop. It's perfect for a few friends or chatting w the table next to you. The owner, Zane, was amazing and spent a good hour with us, talking about his wines, the vineyard, and the history of wineries in Placer. But what was unexpected was how good the wines are! Most of the time, at local wineries, you're 'meh'. Good wines, but nothing special. You'll grab a bottle and thats that. But here, I actually REALLY enjoyed each wine we tried. His fermenting process is 'old-school' using huge clay (amphorae) cisterns vs stainless steel, and a variety of other nuances that seemed to really make a difference. I literally ended up buying a bottle of everything we tried (much to the amusement of my wife). This is now my new favorite winery in the area.

Their outdoor tasting room overlooks hilltop views and if you're lucky you might be able to see a train drive on by too. The setup includes adirondack chairs and tables outside. They offer tastings as well as glasses ($10 each) and bottles that range from $27-$30. I tried their 2023 Grenache Blanc, 2023 Malbec Rose, Mix Red Blend, 2021 Barbera & 2019 Primitivo. All the wines tasted great and had a good complexity. Happy Dayz is a family owned winery with a husband and wife duo. They love their craft, which you can tell from their wines and the overall experience they provide. They are only open select weekends so be sure to check their website and social media for those details. In addition to offering great wines a wonderful experience, they give back to a local non-profit in Sacramento called GiGiś Playhouse and donate 21% of all Malbec Rosé sold.
