I have been on the hunt for Cold Brooze coffee cocktail for a while after having an adult iced coffee at a party. After failing to find at competitive stores I found it here at Total Wine. The staff weren't very patient with my Deaf self. One man went to the back after I showed him a picture. I thought it was to help but he came out wheeling product to stock. I showed another worker and they shook their head. Luckily I found what I was looking for even though I was giving up and walking out. This store is our go to place for champagne and all things for cocktails. Staff always ask if we need assistance or have any questions. We often ask for recommendations and help finding ingredients. My go to place if I'm looking for a hard to find wine or cocktail! Went here looking for Surfside lemonade which has been highly advertised but very difficult to find! Two employees in particular searched high and low for the Surfside. Brian and Benito got up on the ladder and looked on the highest shelves and Benito eventually found them in the back cooler. Until recently, I have been a loyal and regular customer at Total Wine, shopping at your stores almost every week. Unfortunately, my most recent visit left me deeply disappointed and concerned about how customers are treated. Here's exactly what happened: I, a 23-year-old adult, entered the store intending to purchase two bottles of Prosecco for myself. I presented my valid ID at checkout, as I always do. At the cashier's request, my friend who accompanied me also presented their ID. Although I was the only one making the purchase, the cashier, DEB, refused the sale because my friend was just a few hours away from turning 21. While I fully understand the importance of complying with the law, in this case, the alcohol was solely for my personal use, and my friend was not involved in the purchase. I was not attempting to violate any laws in any way. After leaving, I returned to the store alone to make it unmistakably clear that the alcohol was for my personal use only and that my friend was no longer present or involved. I also explained that I am a regular customer who shops at Total Wine almost every week. Despite this, DEB again refused the sale, falsely accusing me of attempting to purchase alcohol for someone underage -- which was absolutely untrue and unfair. Approximately 15 minutes later, my 26-year-old husband -- whom I asked to leave our home and go to the store to purchase the same two bottles of Prosecco for me -- arrived alone. When he reached the register, he briefly FaceTimed me while holding the two bottles, simply to confirm the correct selection. Instead of completing the transaction, DEB made an inappropriate and unprofessional comment, questioning, "Hmm, why would you want to buy two bottles of Prosecco? That's strange." My husband explained that the purchase was for his wife -- me. At that point, DEB leaned over without permission to look into his phone screen, saw me sitting at home, and falsely accused him of attempting to buy alcohol for a minor. She said, "Sorry, you're trying to buy alcohol for a minor, I won't sell it to you," despite the fact that I am 23 years old -- well over the legal drinking age. My husband was shocked by the complete lack of logic, professionalism, and critical thinking shown during this interaction. Given the way the situation was handled, we cannot help but feel that, as immigrants from Ukraine, we were treated with unnecessary hostility, bias, and disrespect. It's important to note that under California Business and Professions Code Section 25658, while it is illegal to sell alcohol to anyone under 21, it is not legal grounds to deny a sale to adults who are clearly of legal drinking age without a valid, lawful reason. In our case, both I and my husband fully met all legal requirements. This experience was not about correctly enforcing the law -- it was about making baseless assumptions, treating responsible adults with disrespect, and showing a complete lack of professionalism. I stop in at the Sarasota TW to pick up a bottle of Diplomatico rum (fantastic, if you want to try something a little different) and there is a little placard: "$10 off any two bottles of Diplomatico." They had both the 750 and 1L bottles so, of course, I picked up 2 bottles of the 1L size @ $42. I check out and the total came to about $90, which didn't seem right. The woman at the till -- who, incidentally was talkative and super nice -- called the manager when I asked about the $10 discount. He didn't adjust the tab! His excuse "Oh, that's only valid on the 750s." I'm from the Midwest and not very confrontational, so I bid them both a Happy Day! and was on my way. There were at least 10 employees on the floor, yet we had to wait close to 10 minutes just to get someone to unlock a case -- because only one person had the keys? Completely ridiculous for a store this size. Then, as we're finally about to buy the bottle, an older employee decides to butt in with his unsolicited opinion: "I drank that at my wedding -- it tastes like overpriced apple juice." Excuse me? Your wedding was probably 60 years ago, and no one asked for your review. The bottle wasn't for me, and it definitely wasn't for you -- it was exactly what the birthday girl wanted. Okay so it was the holidays I was craving some good eggnog drink . I know this is the place to find anything liquor related they are amazing they carry anything you could think of from wine to tequila, beers I mean anything you could think of . So I was on the hunt for the eggnog. One of their associates, Christian he was super friendly attentive . He went above and beyond he is amazing! He guided me the right way to finding pretty much the last eggnog bottle. I was so excited to find the last one !I even found the Puerto Rican eggnog called Coquito, which I had to buy them both to try them out. I have had the home made Coquito in the past I was scared to try this store bought one not the same but it was definitely delicious. Overall, this is my go to place if I need to buy any kind of liquor related . The store is huge really organized and clean with very friendly staff I highly recommend it. read more

OK, in preparation for a holiday party I tried to find decent quality Egg Nog. Every place is either sold out, or have very sweet and goopy second rate stuff. Although I usually don't buy from Total Wine and More I decided to check out their web site and bingo, several choices! I selected a brand and found not only was it fully available (6 bottles) it could be delivered that day within a couple of hours... wow! I didn't even need to face the chaos of the retail world out there right now. It was super simple to track my order and it was delivered right on time, well packaged, brought to the door by friendly upbeat delivery person. What could he better! I've been a loyal customer here because the staff usually provide great service and helpful recommendations. However, during my last few visits I had a disappointing experience with the new management.I interacted with the manager, and I found his tone to be rude and dismissive when I asked for alternatives to a recommended option. This isn't the first time I've encountered this manager, which makes the experience even more disheartening since the level of service I'm used to has clearly changed. I did not receive the same level of assistance or courtesy I've come to expect, which impacted my willingness to return. I do want to emphasize that other staff members not all but majority have been positive and helpful in the past, and I hope the store can address the way managerial interactions are handled. So apparently everyone you're shopping with needs to be I.D'd now at this store or you can't purchase your alcohol? I don't mind being ID'd under usual circumstances, but in this instance my husband 35 and myself, 39 years old and 6 months pregnant are at the register while my husband is buying alcohol. The lady says, "I need id from both of you" pointing aggressively at us. and I asked doesn't the law require you to ask for the I.D of the person purchasing the alcohol? and she said, "no it's store policy. I need ID from both of you" pointing her aggressive fingers at us both again. I said well this must be a new rule because we come here all the time and have never been told that before and she should get an award since she's the only one following "this rule." ....Like, what if we had our child with us do they get carded too? This is just excessive. We'll save our business for elsewhere where Meceredes, her ghetto attitude, and made up "rules" don't exist. Maybe if she had a more kind way of expressing this inconvenient rule, we would not have been questioning her motives. Never had this problem at any other total wine.They usually have excellent customer service everywhere else. Not to mention the girl next to her was talking to another employee about the customers that had just left with her bad attitude as well, saying how she was about to go off on them. so this seems to be what they're doing here now... Recently, I was in need of purchasing cases wine and kegs of beer for my husband's retirement party. There were a couple wines that I had never tasted, so I asked an associate to help me decide. Not only did she help, but the manager said she could let me taste them. Even though the tasting stand was not open on that particular day.. She also helped me with deciding on the size of kegs I needed. I have very little knowledge on Kegs. Both the manger(the tall one-James maybe?) and Mrs. Susan Q were so very helpful. I left a review about 8 months ago about how my boyfriend and I felt racially profiled in this store, and the first time we returned since then, it happened again. We went and bought a very expensive bottle of tequila as a gift. It was locked up and taken to the register for us. A younger latino man, was ringing us up, and asked for my boyfriend's ID. After checking it, he said he had to have the manager approve it because of the bottles price(i assume). The manager came over and looked at us both up and down and said "who's buying it they both look young". the first worker passed over the ID to the the manager and he said "Hmm...idk you look pretty young to me" to my boyfriend and my boyfriend just kind of laughed it off. He then proceeded to ask my boyfriend for his drivers license number. Luckily my boyfriend has his memorized due to a past job buy the manager was still skeptical. He approved it on the screen and walked away. i said to my boyfriend "hmm that was kind of weird, i didn't know they ever asked for Drivers license numbers? Maybe i shoukd learn mine just in case" and the younger worker said "yeah honestly i've never seen that before, i've never been told to ask for that or seen somebody else ask for that here. it was a bit much." i know sometimes businesses ask for Addresses or middle name information if they truly are skeptical of fakes but asking for a number that is commonly not a memorized or known piece of information seems very unprofessional and as if they didn't want to sell to us. The actual employee even agreeing and validating that it was odd for that to happen. As a business of this size, they should be able to scan IDs if they are actually trying to be cautious instead of racially profiling their customers. The manager must not know that younger hispanic couples can purchase and enjoy expensive alcohol too. read more

April 25, 2025: Corporate usually responds to low ratings on this site within 24 hours, but there is no response to my post thus far, two days later. So I decided to review one of the complaints about the carding policy posted on this Yelp site. Here's one from Caitlin A. from Feb 16, 2019: "Went into this store to simply get a red bull to take some ibprofuen with. I grab one, get in line, the lady in front of me had two shots of sky vodka she was purchasing. She gets up to the cashier, he rings her up, she pays. And then she leaves. No conversation. No how are you. No ID check. Nothing. I get up to the register. He rings up my red bull (literally the only thing I had and came in for) and he asked for my ID. I said "you need an id for a red bull?" He goes "yes. Company policy". I said "you didn't card the lady in front of me clearly purchasing alcohol though". He says "she's clearly over 21". I said "my ID is in the car. Are you serious?" He goes "yeah. Sorry". I'm like "I'm 27 years old. Birthdate is 1/17/92". He goes "I still need your id." Literally walked out before raising a huge scene to his management. Unbelievable. Never doing that again. Jesus Christ!! My boyfriend then goes in alone, does the same thing, grabs a red bull and checks out and doesn't get carded." Not only did I find an ample supply of the bitters I was looking for (6 bottles), along with a much wider selection of those 'airport' samplers of alcohol, but this store is literally within walking distance of our house. I went this morning to pick up a specific wine and some non alcoholic wines. They had the exact wine I wanted and a whole row of non alcoholic wines to choose from! One of the employees led me right to them, the checkout gentleman was delightful, and Brian pushed the cart to my car and cheerfully loaded everything for me! Go to Bevmo instead. My boyfriend and I spent the day trying to find a certain cider and ended up at Total Wine. I didn't have my wallet the whole day (he was paying) Anyways, they refused to sell us our cider because I did not have my id. We are both late twenties. Absolutely ridiculous. Just go to Bevmo. This Total Wine location has some great employees and their inventory is always well organized. Super helpful for someone like me who is usually getting drinks for others. I've always had good hospitality at this location, and I would recommend it as one of the best places in the area for your beverage needs EDIT: I had this place at 5 stars but i'm going to have to reduce my rating. Had an experience with one of the employees where they made a completely inappropriate comment about my appearance and identity unprovoked. How "Total Wine" can a store get? That was the question I asked myself when I read a number of friend's Yelp reviews who all raved about these stores. The time finally came when I could check it out in person. The minute I walked into the store, I became awestruck! Since I know very little about wine, I can't give my opinion as to whether they stock every wine ever made in the world, but they "totally" have the appearance of looking like they do! And I don't think most wine connoisseurs are going to complain much here! I'm also impressed that they have helpful and free booklets on wines and beers. My boyfriend enjoyed reading the "Total Guide to Beer." If you are not a wine drinker, don't worry, the "& More" sections of this huge store will fulfill all of your beverage necessities. Alcoholic beverages of every type, brand, flavor, and size are found amongst the numerous and lengthy aisles. A large variety of beers, mixers, carbonated sodas, flavored waters and barware are all conveniently and easily displayed. We even got to do some wine tasting during our shopping for only ten cents! I was able to purchase some of my favorite liquors in large size bottles! This is not a discount store, but the prices were pretty reasonable on most items or at least comparable to other liquor stores. I had high hopes of finding my favorite flavored rum here, but it was my only disappointment as we were unable to find Cabana Boy Rum. It seems to have been discontinued, because I can no longer find that brand anywhere. Seriously the best place to buy wine, beer, and the hard stuff. They have the BEST selection and awesome prices. Be prepared to fill a shopping cart b/c they have a huge inventory. You will find many craft beers, aisles of classics and unique beers all in one place. You will see small batch bottles of bourbons and vodkas, mixers, snacks, and of course the wine. This is the only place I have found Croatian wine in Sacramento. They don't have much of a selection but they do have a Plavac Mali, a beautiful robust red wine made from a grape that is native to Croatia. And while they do not have Malvazija they have some wonderful crisp, dry whites that have a similar taste profile from surrounding areas like Austria, Slovenia, and Greece. I would love to see more Croatian wine but I am having a nice time trying new wines from various regions and I always get a few beers to bring home too, just to have on hand for when company comes over. read more

Went in here on a busy Thursday and was immediately greeted and asked if I needed help finding something. Well I was after a special edition beer, and the young man knew exactly where it was. The selection is enormous, much more so than BevMo. It is worth coming here just to check out all the choices. I've noticed on previous visits that while checkout is consistently friendly and efficient, that sometimes the workers in the aisles are in their own world.
