By far the coolest Asian atmosphere for a restaurant! We were told there would be a wait, but we were able to grab a drink at the bar and even order there. Service was excellent and food was phenom-nom-nomenal! There are so many options for food and drink, so definitely ask your server for their fave if you can't decide! read more

This shotgun style urban restaurant is a good pick for an evening in downtown bham. The waitstaff are super nice, honest and helpful. The food was slightly better than mediocre. Some items were rather bland but overall were fine. The drinks were tasty and well made. The worst aspect of this restaurant, is the close proximity to your fellow diners. If you enjoy hearing about the lives of your food neighbors, than you'll be just fine here. If you want more privacy, you may want to find somewhere else. read more

An incredible dining experience! The ambiance sets you in a modern restaurant but elements of traditional note everywhere. You can not miss the old Japanese movies playing on the tv that further immerses your experience. The food was great! Tempura green beans were spot on and the spicy miso ramen had a great depth of flavor. The ramen noodles were soft. Not firm. But that's how I like it! Probably the best ramen bowl in Birmingham. I heard that it was really expensive and I was proven wrong. That is if you can stay away from the skewers. Over all this is definitely one of my new favorite places! read more

This is a great date night restaurant or one for a small group! They get crowded fast and don't take reservations, so it's best to get there before 6:30. It's a little loud but not too much that you can't hear people at your table, and it's very well decorated. The food and drinks are great. I had the fire sushi roll which was delicious and spicy, as well as the salmon nigiri. I tried the fried eggplant my friend got and it was perfectly done - very crispy but light. The edamame is also very good since it is grilled! Our server was very nice and patient with us asking a lot of questions. She was happy to direct us to her favorites on the menu and make any substitutes we wanted. Everything seems fairly priced for the quality of food you're getting. It's pretty easy to keep the bill around $30 a person even with drinks. I will definitely be back soon! read more

I arrived around 8pm on a Tuesday evening. Upon arrival I was seated promptly the hostess asked what section we would like to sit in. Decided to sit by the sushi bar. Within 1 min of sitting down we were greeted by a server she took our drink orders until Tyler our server was available. Tyler was wonderful. He made some great recommendations and had great energy all around. We started off with the salmon skewers very tasty! We ordered three different rolls the wham bham, magic city and the sloss roll. We typically love this place but recently had an unpleasant experience. The host/manager refused to seat us when the our fourth person was parking our car. We told him that and he refused to seat us. Exactly two minutes later our fourth person walked in the door. I understand certain policies about needing everyone present but some policies can be taken too far. After being sat, half of our party did not get their food until half an hour later. By the time their food arrived everyone else had already eaten. Our server was good and apologized profusely. Honestly though what made us the most disappointed was the poor attitude of the host and his extreme efforts to go out of his way to be rude and condescending. read more

I love sushi. This place may be my new favorite. I came on a Thursday night around 6:30 thinking it would be crazy crowded; turns out we were able to get right in with no wait. It got busier once we arrived though so I would recommend arriving by 6:30 or before. The Food: Excellent. We ordered the fried green beans as an appetizer and they were perfect: lightly breaded with a tasty and creamy siracha sauce blend. My wife got the Thai Chicken salad and I ordered the Sapporo roll(spicy tuna, smoked salmon, cream cheese, beer battered...you get the point) and we were not disappointed. The others who came with us even shared their rolls. The Fire Roll was even better than mine but I wasn't complaining on mine. The Service: Excellent. They brought everything out to us in a very quick amount of time. Our server even recommended certain items as well and we all followed them. They were friendly and courteous to us all. The atmosphere is cool too-it doesn't feel like a typical restaurant it Birmingham. They have some cool Asian decorations and different seating than normal but I like it. If you like meeting new people, I recommend the bar area or the Community Dining table area near the front. I will definitely be back-no doubt. read more

Appetizer forgotten. Waitress was very kind and honest about it so that was nice, we can move on. But my fiancé sat beside me, when it was dying down, on my side of the long shared booth... and the host tapped the table with a menu and said "Ima need you to move please". I found that to be very rude. There are many ways to ask someone to move to another seat and that isn't it, especially when we are paying money to eat and drink here we should expect polite service. Thanks but those things rub me wrong, and kindness or politeness goes a long way. Like I said, the waitress's apology over the appetizer slip up was enough for us to move on like no big deal. read more

What a wonderful restaurant!! My husband, son and I were staying in Birmingham for the night on the way home from vacation and we decided to give Bamboo on 2nd a try. We were so glad we did!! The ambiance and decor is very chic and clean. We were greeted very quickly and sat immediately. Our server was super sweet, knowledgeable of the menu and attentive. We started with the pork momos, which were so flavorful with the ponzu sauce. Then we ordered the tempura green beans, lumpia, and 2 chicken skewers (lemon grass and Korean bbq). All delicious- especially the tempura green beans!! I would say that the lumpia tasted more like an egg roll than the traditional lumpia I've had before but it was still tasty. And all the food came out so fast! By this time we were getting pretty full but we had also ordered 2 noodle bowls, the ramen and vegetarian thukpa. It could have been that we were getting full but we were less impressed by the noodle bowls. Great ingredients but we felt that it lacked flavor compared to everything else we had that evening. All in all it was a wonderful experience and if you are in Birmingham you better give it a try! read more

As an Asian who visited Alabama on the way back to New York, the sushi wasn't bad. Everything was pretty good, definitely had the American style taste to it, which make sense for the people who go to eat there. The restaurant is VERY cultured which I guess is good to see? Only thing was this spot was extremely expensive for just some sushi. If you want good sushi, come to New York. read more

We had one of the most delicious meals in a long time last night at Bamboo. The owner told us that he had been in the restaurant business for decades and that his Thai Chicken Salad had been a constant for the whole time. It was crunchy and fresh. The peanut dressing was just the right balance of earthy, spicy and sweet. The chicken was grilled perfectly. My wife had the Tibetan (?) noodle soup. The base was obviously house made broth. The flavor was rich but very clean. There were more than enough shrimp, done perfectly and not rubbery. Service was everything you could ask for. Prices were reasonable - actually a bargain considering it is as good as most white-tablecloth restaurants I know. We will be back - and soon! read more

It had been far too long since the last time I visited and this experience topped it! I went on a date after a fun time at a Yelp event so it was pretty late( maybe 8:30 ish). We were immediately seated and our waiter, Bradley, was super nice. Since it was less packed, I was able to appreciate the decor. We sat at a half booth, half table. The atmosphere was very nice and classy. I felt like I was getting a super expensive restaurant experience for cheap. I had already looked at the menu and knew exactly what I wanted to order: the veggie ramen bowl. I had seen people get their ramen bowls before and knew nothing else would do. My date ordered the oh so popular, fire rolls. The food was out within minutes and I dug in! I'd never had a ramen bowl before, but wow. The waiter was kind enough to give some spicy sauce on side if I wanted to give the tofu some flavor, but I didn't need it. It was so flavorful and the veggies were delicious! Needless to say, I finished mine. My date really enjoyed his sushi. He hasn't had much, but it was definitely the best he's ever had. We will definitely be back! Ridiculously good. The atmosphere was really cool, I was happy to be in a place playing a Godzilla movie. The room was full but not crowded, and the host/wait a staff were exceptional. Mediocre food. Horrible hospitality. I had my two children with me who are very well behaved and are very quiet. As we waited for our food, my 4 year old colored in a coloring book with crayola washable markers. We were quickly told, "could she put the 'magic markers' up we don't want them to get on our table" first of all they were washable markers and second of all I would never let her color if I thought she would get them on a table. Never have I felt so uncomfortable as said man walked the restaurant glaring our way to make sure we were doing things to his standard... if a restaurant is not kid friendly or doesn't want children in their establishment it should be listed on websites, etc. Parents, beware! This is not a kid friendly establishment! There were over-served adults who were louder and messier than my children. There are many competitors in Birmingham with just as good (if not better) sushi that are family friendly. This is a sushi bar- not fine dining. read more

If you're looking for sushi, go HERE. It's a great spot and I love the ambiance. Stormy is the BEST waitress, she knows the menu like the back of her hand and she basically orders for me at this point. The sushi bar is the best seat in the house and the geisha roll is my FAVE! read more

When I asked if I could add cheese to my Army Stew, he immediately answered, "No cheese." From the kitchen, his wife overheard the conversation, called him back, and a minute later he returned with two slices of American cheese anyway. She knew exactly what I was after. It was one of those little moments that made the place feel even more authentic. The homemade banchan was outstanding. Every dish tasted fresh, thoughtfully prepared, and like recipes that have been made the same way for years. We ordered a pajeon, but asked if they could make it with only scallions instead of seafood. Without hesitation, they did--and it ended up being my favorite style of pajeon. Crispy around the edges, tender in the center, and absolutely packed with scallions. Then came the star of the meal: Budae Jjigae (Army Stew). I'd honestly never seen it on a Korean restaurant menu before, so ordering it was an easy decision. The pot was massive, filled with Spam, sausage, beef, ramen, mushrooms, vegetables, tofu, and bubbling spicy broth. It was comforting, hearty, and somehow even better after everything had simmered together. There was so much food that we had leftovers for days, and somehow it tasted even better the next day. What I appreciated most was that nothing about Seoul Restaurant felt trendy or manufactured. The menu focused on comforting Korean classics, the portions were incredibly generous, the prices were more than fair, and every bite felt like it came from a family recipe rather than a corporate kitchen. If you're looking for polished, over-the-top hospitality, this probably isn't your place. But if you want to feel like you've wandered into someone's home, where Grandma is watching TV, the husband is running the dining room, the wife is cooking from the heart, and every dish tastes like it's been perfected over decades... Seoul Restaurant is exactly where you want to be. We'll absolutely be making this a stop every time we're back in Alabama.

They were not piping hot as if they had just come out of the fryer and they were not greasy. I'm not sure if they were fried or air fried. But I do know they were flavorful and me and my guy enjoyed themselves and agreed that they were the star of the evening! I can't wait to go back and try something different!

We are overwhelmed at the response that Bamboo on 2nd has received in it's opening three weeks . We are extremely grateful that we have been given a chance to show Birmingham what we've been working so hard to create for some time now. We monitor our facebook page and on line reviews daily, to help us track both the good and the bad that people have to say about us. People continue to laud praise on our food, the design of our space and ambiance, and most often, our service. While we are still in a steep learning curve, there is no excuse for indifference or rudeness to our guest and clientele. We sincerely apologize to anyone we have disappointed or offended ,and will do everything in our power to rectify these situations. We are taking steps forward every day, hiring new staff and continuously training our current staff in ways to treat and serve our guests. This summer I was waiting at El Barrio and thought to myself "Why are there no restaurants within eye's view of this place?" If a restaurant only had the spillover from El Barrio it could still operate. Then, I saw a sign for Bamboo on 2nd! I saw someone walk in the door of what appeared to be a construction site, but was the restaurant. I decided so walk in the door and check the place out (while waiting for my table at El Barrio). Inside was one of the owner's who mentioned that they would be open within the next 10 days. We dined at Bamboo on 2nd pretty late after a Baron's game. The service was fantastic even tough they did not serve booze yet. We stuffed our stomachs with delicious rolls until or BYOBeers ran out. I am anxious to return and try some of their drinks. December 5, 2015, my dad had asked the manager at Dollar Tree in Homewood, AL were they hiring and the manager told him I will give you an application and have your daughter to fill it out and bring it back. On that same day I filled it out and turned it in and she said " you can check back on Monday because we are busy." On Monday she interviewed me and asked me to tell her a little bit about myself and what days I'm available. When I done that she said I will give you a call the next day and let you know something and give you a schedule. Since than I been calling her, but she has not been calling me letting me know if she will hire me. She just been giving me the run around. The score I will give to this manager is a 0 because she could've told me if the position has been filled. read more

Waited for 45 mins to get sat at a deli counter facing homeless people and your back to whole restaurant. This shouldn't even be an option, there's space for a 4-8 person table in same spot. When I asked to sit somewhere else because of my anxiety I was told I'd have to start my wait all over and it would be an hour and a half. Completely ruined my dinner. I would have left if I hadn't had my daughter wanting to eat there for the first time and after we drove all the way from Shelby Co. Will never come back for that reason alone. Food was fine. I would never go to this place , my friend and her boyfriend were racially discriminated for being Hispanic. The owner yelled at them and basically threw them out. He said that they were supposedly making an employee uncomfortable but it wasn't true. read more
