Love this place! The weather was perfect and got to sit outside for dinner time. Service was great, even when they were busy. All servers made sure drinks were filled and each table had what they needed. Food is always great but I did try something new and everything was excellent. The batter on the green beans were so crunchy and perfectly salted! I dipped mine in soy sauce but it also comes with a pretty tasty and mild sauce. My cocktail was so light and refreshing! Not sweet and very nice sake! Highly recommend! The bulgogi was good as well! I'm not a huge fan of kimchi but this was good! Lots of jasmine rice and carrots! Only critique for the entree would be to add a little more flavor. Maybe a tempura crunch, or a roasted nut, or each some green onion to give an added flavor. I did add soy sauce on it and it was pretty good! No complaints and a happy belly here! Great atmosphere for date or family night. I ordered sake - I can't recall the name Ginzang maybe? I'm quite new to trying sake; this was a good newbie friendly one. The spicy chicken ramen was good after I added Sriracha and soy sauce. I'm always hesitant with Asian fusion spots, because you risk diluting the cuisine, but Abhi toes the line well! They keep the authenticity of the cuisine but have a great mixed menu with Japanese sushi and ramen and a mix of Thai and other southeast Asian noodle and curry dishes. You are greeted with traditional music and decor to really set the vibe, and the restaurant is filled with lots of light making it very welcoming. We had the momos and lumpia to start, which both were solid small bites, if maybe a touch lacking on flavor. The Panang curry really hit the spot with a nice soft spice and full body flavor. Sigh. Some friends and I came here on a Tuesday night, to catch up over some sushi. If you've been here you already know that parking can be hit or miss. It's Mountain brook. You can get to the restaurant by taking the elevator or making the trek up a flight of stairs. I took the stairs initially but that was one and done for me! Lol We ordered edamame as an app. After a few bites of it, my friend discovered a bug literally in the piece she had just taken out her mouth! Ewwwwwwww The staff made this encounter up by getting us a different app and the manager/owner came over to apologize, explain etc. Too bad I couldn't really hear him as it's really loud in the dining space. Not gonna lie the bug situation changed the whole mood. We ordered momo to replace the edamame. They were tasty. For sushi we had a few different rolls. I specifically remember the Magic City Roll bc that was my selection. I got this roll without cream cheese. The roll was mid in taste. I was hoping for something spicier. The atmosphere of Abhi won me over more than anything else they offered. The theme of the restaurant is really cool and makes a great date-night dinner. I ordered the Spicy Steak Salad- it was very flavorful and had a lot of steak with it. I'm normally not the biggest fan of steak but I decided to venture outside my comfort zone tonight and try it. I really enjoyed the salad but the star of the show of the Khao Soi- a flavorful noodle dish that's in a coconut milk based curry. While I loved the Khao Soi, Abhi's "sister restaurant", Maro, serves the exact same dish for slightly cheaper. Personally, I prefer Maro over Abhi, as I'd argue that Maro has a slightly better menu and is more budget-friendly (and has just as great theming inside). We also ordered the Blazer Roll to share. It wasn't the best sushi I've had but it was pretty good. Maybe not $16 good, but good nonetheless. Overall, I'm not opposed to returning to Abhi, but it would be hard to eat here over Maro since they are both in the same shopping district in downtown Mountain Brook. read more

The momos tasted amazing with great consistency and flavor. The green beans were very good and filling though the sauce was a little too spicy than I would prefer. We love the food here BUT it was sad when you had to send back plates because there was gooey residue and water spots on the entire plate. We ordered an appetizer, a roll and a ramen bowl but when we ordered the dessert there was mold on the mint garnish. We asked if they could replace it and the manager comes up with the garnish and wipes it on our table and said "if it was mold it would have been black" and sent back our original dessert dish with a new garnish. We understand when food is a little off or things are missed in the kitchen but the least you could do is not wipe the mildew/mold on our table and tell us we're wrong. My husband took me here for my birthday because he read that they had the best reviews for sushi. Since we were on the road, we had no one to watch our children so they had to come with us. Let me tell you, this is not really a kid friendly restaurant as they have absolutely nothing on the menu for kids and there's nothing wrong in that either as not every restaurant has to be kid friendly but for us and the couple sitting two tables from us with a toddler, it was definitely challenging to figure out what to feed our kid. The couple behind us brought good fish for their kid lol what a sight to see at such a high end restaurant. It's kind of funny that it's not a kid friendly place because every single table has paper over it'a table cloth as an extra measure of precaution over spills and messes- ideal for catering to small customers like children. This is an Asian fusion/sushi restaurant in the heart of one of the most upscale suburbs in Birmingham. They only take reservations for parties bigger than 6 but my husband called and asked if they can make an exception since it was my birthday and they did (thank you). The restaurant itself is located on the second floor and is accessible both by elevator and stairs. Once we arrived, the hostess seated us almost immediately and provided us with the menu. We ordered the momo for our kiddo which is house made Nepalese style dumplings steamed with ground turkey in an Alabama tomato vinaigrette sauce. I ordered the The villager roll which is shrimp tempura, cucumber, smoked salmon topped with tuna tataki, honey sriracha, eel sauce, and green onion and the wham bam Birmingham roll which is cucumber, avocado, shrimp tempura topped with seared salmon, eel sauce and wasabi aioli. My husband went back and forth between the Nepalese lamb curry and Kathmandu Turkey Burger with a side of green beans. He was concerned that the Nepalese lamb curry would be spicy and when he asked the waitress what level of spicy is it, she said 7. To us who have had various Asian food, 7 is pretty spicy but we went ahead and ordered it anyways. One thing I truly appreciate about this restaurant is that you can watch the staff prepare your sushi- they have a sushi preparation area that's visible to the customer and you can see the freshness of what you ordered being prepared. Our food arrived relatively fast- to our surprise, my kiddo ate the momo right away (he was hungry too after a busy afternoon at the botanical gardens). I liked my sushi- I prefer the villager roll over the wham bam Birmingham roll because my taste buds were looking for a slight kick and the villager delivered on that. Overall the sushi was very good and I highly recommend coming here to check it out. My husbands lamb was a little bit disappointing. First, the portion is small for the price, they went very light on the lamb. Secondly, it wasn't a level 7 spicy. I think the woiceneee level of food is all relative to the person and their experience. I personally think the spice level is like a 2 because I'm someone who can't tolerate heat and I felt like this meal had a kick to it but not really spicy. The lamb was cooked really well and it was a savory dish but just small portion. We ordered the Nutella banana roll for dessert and it was not as great as I thought it would be- I'm a huge Nutella and banana lover and something here was missing but I can't put my finger on it. I wouldn't order it again but I do appreciate the creativity. The only reason I rated this place a star down is because I was shocked that they had a cake fee of $25. I've dined in a lot of places (maybe not in enough clearly) but I've never in my life seen a cake fee. It's apparently a fee patrons get charged for bringing in a cake and asking staff to put candles on it and bring it out. For $25 they don't even sing happy birthday!! The couple In front of us were celebrating their daughters birthday and they brought a nothing Bundt cake and the cake itself is $30 and they had to pay the fee for the service. The cake fee almost costs as much as the cake itself. I just couldn't believe it. I don't know if I was more shocked by the price or the fact that some people didn't mind paying that fee. Location is convenient. It's hip and trendy. Service was good and Abhi himself was there and super attentive, kind and humble. Be sure to try the momos and tempura fried green beans. I've also had the kfc lollipops at another location. They're good too. Abhi does it again. This location is gorgeous. I recommend coming on a week night to avoid a wait. We didn't have one on a Monday night. *My only suggestion is for them to add how many people each appetizer feeds. The green beans feed 3-6 people. I think because of the layout voices carry and we did have trouble hearing each other. It is definitely more of a bar feel than restaurant. The menu has most of the same as the other with a few new items and a few things missing. Beware- they don't have the pan fried momos, just steamed. And no street sauce, just the vinaigrette. They were very busy and our waiter was a tad overwhelmed. I recognized a few faces from the other one which was nice! He took awhile to get small things like soy sauce but he was great with refilling drinks and our food came out quickly. Overall it was great. No quite Rolls Royce jet engine loud, but loud enough that we were basically shouting "What" to one another across our table half the night. Mind you, most of the volume came from a gaggle of Junior Leaguers shrieking at one another at the adjacent table. But great jumping Jehosephat, Mitzi and Trixie. Your sorority rush years are long past. Give your vocal chords a freaking rest before you shatter everyone's water glasses. I mean, I'm not kidding you. Oh, who am I kidding? Self-awareness isn't the strong suit of these women. They're too busy one-upping each other, their voices getting louder and higher until we approach dog whistle territory. Meanwhile, Abhi could benefit by installing some sound baffles to screen out the more obnoxious patrons. That way, the rest of us who lack the voices of a damned factory whistle can actually have something approaching a conversation. read more

I will say that from street level it's hard to tell that the restaurant is open because on one side of the building's wall there is the Abhi sign and a for lease sign close so we were worried it was closed. Let's start with it's on the second floor and the view of the little downtown area is so cute. The steps going up are gorgeous wood with pretty flags, flying all over the top the bartender greeted us as soon as we walked in and he was amazing young man from Pakistan, we ordered the pork Bao buns a tuna Tataki, an eel roll a rainbow roll, and the egg roll dessert. They had unfiltered sake, hot sake, and a full bar. The service was excellent as we got there right when they open the bartender was great with suggestions.
