We were in maple ridge area and wanted some Thai food. Google map showed this location so we decided to try it instead of heading to Coquitlam where our favorite Thai restaurant is. Parking is readily available since it is in a plaza with a big lot. The restaurant is also quite big and beautifully decorated. We shared the lettuce wraps as appetizer and I had the drunken noodles. My friend had the yellow curry chicken with coconut rice. The Thai iced milk tea is legit, like what you will get in Thailand. The food is tasty though the drunken noodles reminded me of fried kway teow in Malaysia and Singapore. I think it's due to the sweetness of the sauce. What I didn't like is the service and inconsistent price changed. The website menu prices are reflecting older prices as is the menu right after you enter. When I asked about it as the bill was showing a higher price, I was told they changed the price the week before and didn't update those menu. I did ask for the menu given to guests and took pictures of the current prices. So at $23 for a protein entree on average, that is a bit on the high side. I checked other Thai restaurants outside maple ridge and they are still under $20. So I guess people living in maple ridge area are like a captive audience unless they want to travel out for Thai food. Yelp check in has a promo of $5 off $20 purchase. The staff's immediate reaction was I had never seen that before and tried to fob me off by saying it must be an external online order promo. She didn't even bother reading it. Finally she said she would check with the owner after taking a pic of the promo on my phone. And she didn't come back with an update. Another staff honored the check in discount when we asked for the bill. The first staff was also quite standoffish and unhelpful when we asked for recommendations. The vibe was just order whatever you want, I don't care. I won't come back here despite the pretty tasty food. So glad I have other Thai options in metro vancouver which are nearer me. read more

We stopped by for lunch specials during a weekday. We each ordered a curry and requested medium spicy. Food arrived after a decent wait as there was a steady stream of customers. However, I found the spice level to be mild and not Asian medium spicy standard. The salad was fresh. The wonton was crispy and the soup had a decent amount of veggies. Ban Chok Dee is my go-to Thai spot when with my boyfriend in the Maple Ridge area. We've gotten takeout from them a few times, and we swung by this past Friday for a quick post workout bite. We've tried a few of their curries, with the Gang Goong Pineapple Curry being one of the highlights. The prawns retain a springy texture and contrast nicely with juicy pineapple chunks, which provide bursts of sweetness in a creamy red curry sauce. My boyfriend often opts for their Pad Thai, which they do a decent rendition of here. The sauce is tamarind heavy - no inauthentic ketchup for sweetness here. I went for the Pad Ped Jungle this past visit, which is comprised of sautéed pork, eggplant, bell peppers, green peppercorns, and bamboo shoots. I thoroughly enjoyed this dish, especially with the textural contrast of the peppercorns in every bite. The price points here are a dollar or two higher than other places around town but I find Ban Chok Dee to offer the best value. Portions are very large here and they offer a variety of local and imported beers to complement their spicy dishes. Great Thai place in the Maple Ridge area. Atmosphere is nice. Sticky rice that comes with the apples is delicious. We ordered the papaya salad and the satays. These are hard to mess up but the sauce that comes with the satay really elevated them. Entrees: duck curry was very good. The duck was flavourful in the curry and the lychees were a seeet surprise. Pad thai wasn't the best that I've had. It seemed bland, the noodle, sauce and the fixing ratio was off. Had their deep fried banana dessert to finish. Everything was so amazing this time - hot, fresh, spicy, saucy... and absolutely brimming with aroma and flavour. So good. I discovered their Langley branch over 10 years ago, and have eaten there many times. I was elated to discover that they had opened their second restaurant on this side of the river. I consider Thai food to be the most reliable cuisine for the restaurant goers. I have to say, I have yet to find a bad Thai restaurant. If I were traveling to a town that was renowned for having poor restaurants, I would pick the Thai restaurant. The thing that stood out for me about the Langley restaurant, so many years ago, was the eclectic ambience. While this new restaurant is not quite as eclectic, it is very beautifully decorated, more like a fine dining restaurant. This is rare in Thai restaurants in my experience, as they seem to be more concentrating on their food, than their decor. Not only is the decor a notch above any competitor that I have experienced, but their food is two notches above other Thai restaurants. The cherry on the top of the cake, is the wonderful presentation that they go to the bother of creating. Things like fresh flowers, and special cutlery and bowls are examples of the extra effort that they put out to make their food look beautiful. So in a nutshell, this restaurant is better on all fronts than competing Thai restaurants, which as I mentioned, is no mean feat. Everything I have tried at this restaurant has been wonderful. I feel that I don't even want to single out any one dish, but I do seem to order the crying tiger beef salad (9/10) over and over. The curries are particularly delicious. My favorite is the Penang Curry (9/10), but this yellow curry (9/10) my daughter ordered was amazing. If you wanting to take friends out for a special meal, but are hesitant to go for Thai food because of the typical greasy spoon ambience, don't hesitate! I think this is one of the best thai foods in the Lower Mainland area. The place is a good size with lots of parking as it shares the same complex as Save on foods and other shops. Lots of items in their menu aside from the usual curry. I got the pad Thai and sis got the duck red curry. They have lunch portions for some of the items as indicated with an L beside it. The lunch is a bit smaller and comes with vegetable soup. It is $3-4 cheaper. You can customize the spiciness as well. The pad Thai was very well cooked. It has good flavor and you can smell the fish sauce. Probably not appetizing for some people but I love fish sauce. Anyways when you eat it, you don't really taste it. The noodles are cooked perfectly and the sauce coated them really well. Raw bean sprouts are laid on top which I am not really a fan of, but surprisingly, it added a nice crunch to the noodles. The duck red curry has lots of shredded duck meat and bamboo shoots. The red curry flavor is sublime. I kept on spooning the sauce and just eating it as it's perfect on it's own. Mild is really mild and there's no kick to it. So next time, I will opt for the medium spiciness. Prices are a bit higher compared to other Asian restos but the portions are enough to feed 2 people. And if you have an entertainment coupon, you get discount too. Service is great. Am looking forward to coming back here and trying out the fish dishes. read more

Wow, who knew there can be a great Thai place out in Maple Ridge? Though I didn't see any Thai chefs in the kitchen, the flavours they produced seemed authentic, and not a western take on Thai flavours. The Tom Yum Goong had a complex flavour of sweet sour and savoury, and it was bold in flavour. The Green Curry was flavourful as well, but it was a tad on the sweeter side. We just ordered takeout from this place and we're thoroughly disappointed. We chose Ban Chok Dee based on the good reviews, but our food didn't taste as good as we had hoped. The cashew chicken was tasty enough although it contained very few actual cashews. My wife's Kao Soi tasted like chicken drowned in coconut soup. Pitty that the flavours of the other ingredients were totally overpowered by the coconut milk. My son had the Thai basil stir fry. He usually likes Thai food but he said the chicken tasted weird and only ate the rest of the dish. I tried his chicken and it did taste a bit off. We love Thai food and we've travelled Thailand in the past. After reading how authentic this food was we expected a lot more. We'll stay with our regular restaurant instead. read more

Went here with my family for Mother's Day dinner just this past week and unfortunately, we got sick from the food. We had been here several times before and were initially impressed so I feel a bit sad to write this. However, there is no excuse for unsanitary preparation of food. Our upset stomachs and violent bouts of vomiting were indicative of how much the quality and care has gone downhill. Right from the beginning, we did not have a good experience. We had a reservation but we still had to wait over 10 minutes for our table to be ready. Granted, there were 10 of us and it was understandably a busy day so that wasn't such a big issue. However, the time we waited for our food to arrive was unacceptable. We waited over an hour and a half for everyone's dish to be served! Several of the dishes were incomplete as well, with us having to ask for the rice that should be included. In terms of the taste, the food was not bad. I ordered the Red Curry and I actually enjoyed it. I also had some of the Pad Thai, but I thought that was just okay. The noodles were clumpy and a bit dry. The thing that we think got us all sick was the Papaya Salad because that was the one dish that all of us ate. It could have either been due to the veggies not being washed properly, it being contaminated, or from the dressing that they used. My sister and I ate the most of this and we got the full brunt of the food poisoning symptoms. We felt terrible all throughout the night and the next day. It's unfortunate because I did like this restaurant but I really think I'll be staying away from this restaurant from now on. I'll spare you the details but I can't even think of having red curry again any time soon because that was all I could taste when I was puking it out... After such poor service, over $200 spent, and to top it off, getting us all sick on a special day, we most definitely feel ripped off. read more

Ok so finally tried a dine in experience. It was very busy and we Had to wait to be seated. Restaurant is pretty packed when full. Staff was very nice and chatty. Ordered a Mai tai that was $10 is that average now? Idk I don't usually order cocktails. It was good but not very strong and pretty sweet. Also ordered veg spring rolls as we do in every thai restaurant and I remember they were excellent last time however they said they were out. Very disappointing and poor prepping for a Friday night. We ended up,ordering the green beans which we were explained come with rice for an entree or without for the appetizer. We said it was just an appetizer. This we assumed meant it would be an appetizer price. But no we were charged the entree price we just didn't get the Rice lol. Wow. The green beans though were amazing and I would have those as an entree if I were ever back there. ($16 with or without rice!) Entree was the cashew chicken stir fry and pad Thai with prawns. The entrees were fairly large portions and the presentations beautiful. That said, the stir fry was more vegetables than chicken or cashews and the flavour was good but very basic just not a flavour explosion like at our regular place. That's was $22. The pad Thai again wasn't my fave pad Thai - still using the wrong noodles and the sauce which is supposed to be tamarind tasted mostly of thick dark soy. Maggi? That's is not pad Thai. It was not medium as ordered Peanuts were nice and the 6 prawns were cooked perfectly. The one maddening thing is the menu said pad Thai with chicken was $22 ($23) prawns. Yet on the bill it was charged as pad Thai $22 (+$4 prawn). So I was actually charged $26 for mediocre pad Thai with prawn. That is not only a rip off but a breach of trust. Do I have to get my bill and check it against the advertised menu prices or does the restaurant just get to change prices at will. Four short years ago the price was the same for chicken or prawns and that price was $15! I understand that everything has gone up but not 75%! Price gouging? The whole menu seemed a touch over priced by about 35% over other local Thai places. Although the atmosphere and decor was more upscale. However I will take pulling up a stool or chair to a low table at either one of my other favourite Thai places and eat a Thai dinner for two for far less than $100. I always get a side of extra bean sprouts and carrots since I love that balance of crunchy from the fresh veggies and the smooth texture of the noodles. However, I ordered take out (lunch special Pad Thai with prawns) for the first time and am quite disappointed. First, the salad and wonton (I guess a small appetizer that comes with the lunch special) is all mixed into one box. The salad and wonton are both warm and soggy - very unappetizing. Second, there are only 3 prawns in here which is kind of sad. The rest is just noodles. The lunch special is $12. Went here last night with a group of girlfriends because one of them has never had Thai food before (I know!). I've eaten at their Langley location and loved it. We had their appetizer platter, pad thai, green curry, sweet and sour stirfry and papaya salad to share. The portions were generous and we were all able to sample each dish. The pad thai was my favorite out of all of them, followed by the green curry. We chose mild for some of the group because of sensitive palates, but definitely will up the heat next time. The serving staff were friendly and helpful with suggestions. One thing I would change is I found is the deep fried ice cream, although delicious, had a really thick coating on the outside of panko bread crumbs and batter. I get that it helps prevent the ice cream from melting when being fried, but it was quite thick and most of the ice cream got gobbled up while there was still a bit of coating left behind. It's a small detail and not sure if the coating can be a little less thick. Overall would definitely recommend this place to people wanting authentic Thai food. read more

Oh dear..... went here based on the suggestion of a friend.... all I can say is bland food, bad service. The food was different forms of unflavored mush. Our waitress forgot about our food and when we asked about it a full hour later she ran to the kitchen and came out with it immediately saying "they just put it up" it was cold and the plates (including the salad and salad plate) were warm from the heating lamp. You forgot be honest and say so, also forgot to bring us extra spice, which was sadly needed. This is more western introduction to Thai than authentic Thai. read more

And the satay they messed up and gave me and order of garlic something. With was pork and veggies. But NOT what iordered.
