This was my first time trying Somalian food in LA, and my friend brought me to this hidden gem for lunch. This is a no-frills small mom & pop spot with a fairly small menu that's incredibly flavorful and generously portioned! All the lunch meals came with a vegetable soup that's incredible and I would be happy with I for lunch any day! My main lunch item was the beef lunch plate which came with sliced beef seared with seasoning, with a salad and rice. It was massive! My friend got the goat meal, and it was cooked to perfection, and super tender. For a small neighborhood spot, it was very busy during lunch! My first time trying Somali food here and my friend and I both thought it was delicious! We ordered one Goat and one Lamb combo to share. Both combos included rice, salad, soup, tea, and bottled water. They also usually come with a banana, but unfortunately we didn't get them because they were not ripe at the time. The portions were massive! You can honestly share one combo for 2 people. Going down each combo component: Goat: My favorite of the meats. It was super tender, moist, and flavorful. A bit too fatty for my liking, but still good. Lamb: A little less tender than the goat, but still flavorful and good. Also less fat than the goat which was nice. Tea: Delicious tea. It was sweet and warm. Unlimited refills which is nice. I would come back regularly for the tea if I could. Rice: Soft, flavorful and also soaks up the flavor from the meats. Salad: A nice, crisp, and refreshing element to cut the fatty and savory meats. Soup: Flavorful and tangy which I liked. Also helped to cut the heavy meat and rice. Both of the meats were covered in veggies like onions and tomatoes which were yummy. The dishes also came with a spicy sauce which was nice, but can get a bit too spicy for me. For $19.99 for each combo, this is such as steal considering the portion sizes and meats. The service here was great and I felt very welcomed by the lady serving us. The restaurant itself isn't the cleanest and most modern place, but it is a great hole in the wall type of vibe. Generous portions for the price and their Somali tea is so comforting - it feels like a hug to your throat. Beef was a tough in the suqaar but it worked because the rice was incredibly fluffy, soft without being mushy, and flavorful. It was too easy to eat! I'd say two people can comfortably share a plate as there is a ton of delicious rice in there. Also, the green sauce is spicy and a little bit goes a long way. As an avid banana eater I now enjoy bananas with rice and the green sauce. The spicy, savory, and sweet combo really works well. I've stopped by once when a friend was picking up and tried the complimentary tea that one time, I will be thinking about it for a while! Five stars for the food, the value, and the warmth of the place. Banadir serves some of the best lamb and goat plates I've had in LA: huge portions, flavorful rice, tender meat, soup, the whole meal just works. The room is very no-frills and rough around the edges, so this is not a polished dining-room experience, but the tables and bathroom have been clean on my visits and the service has always been kind and attentive. The staff is super nice and the meals often form with large portions of rice and veggies. Along with that are complimentary vegetable soup and bananas. I have been wanting to come here for years (and I mean 5+ years), but making a trip to Inglewood is always a challenge for me. Now, I finally got to make a trip out here and it was on Labour Day (Monday, 4th September) and had called earlier to make sure they were open. The uncle on the line let me know that they're almost always open, so that was perfect. This is an absolute hole-in-the-wall with phenomenal prices and top notch service and quality of food. The owner (the same uncle I spoke with) is so kind and gracious; please stop by and support, especially with their super affordable prices! Walking into the restaurant, you have the kitchen in front, tucked away behind the counter, and are engulfed by the mouth-watering aroma of searing meats. To your right is the dining area where you can sit anywhere and then order. My mate and I got just one thing to share: - Goat and rice: $16.99 It is delicious, large (enough for two people), so filling, not heavy, and that delicious green hot sauce (basbaas cagaar) is to die for! And, of course, everything is halal. As you can see from the photo, the plate has basmati rice (reminiscent of biryani; it has cloves), goat, a salad, and veggies (chilies, tomato, and onion). EDIT/UPDATE: Came on a weekend because I just couldn't get enough and I got: - Lamb lunch plate - Goat lunch plate Total: $36 (rounded up, before tip) The lunch plates come with soup, as you can see, and it's still plenty of food for two people to share one plate or to get one just to yourself! Absolutely delicious and filling, but not heavy at all! We also got bottled water and they have gratis (free) clove tea which is aromatic and refreshing. Overall, this was a lovely experience with superb, friendly, and fast service. When it comes time to pay, you go back from the dining room to the counter to pay and they accept cash as well as card; no extra service fees. Parking is hard because it is all street parking; find a spot quickly and get in because you will absolutely not regret anything. This is 1,000% worth it and I am so happy that I finally got around to coming here for some delicously scrumptious Somali food. read more

He kindly asked what we wanted (you order at the front), and told us he'd bring it out to us. My wife and I both got the rice and goat meat and took our seats. The place was loud and buzzing, in a upbeat and encouraging way. This was clearly the spot. About 5 minutes passed, and we were graced by two hearty, mouthwatering plates. One heaping scoop and we knew we hit the jackpot. I don't get goat often, but I know quality meat when I eat it. The goat was phenomenal. Flavorful and fall-of-the-bone-tender, every bite packed a satisfying punch that had me racing to the next bite. The rice was also homey, zesty, and delicious. The meal was divine. Authentic, and had that "grandma's-been-prepping-this-food-all-day" kind of comfort. It didn't take long for us to clean our plates. This spot is easy to miss. If you're eating in the restaurant, take a look then sit down and someone will come to help you.
