Tried Trinidadian food for the first time and it did not disappoint! We did a pickup order and ordered the chicken, goat, and beef curry plates--each one was full of flavor and absolutely delicious. Forgot to take more pics of the other plates because we were too busy enjoying the food . Just a heads up: parking can be a bit limited, and the restaurant hours are somewhat restricted. (Just because this is what Caribbean restaurants are known for doesn't make this behavior acceptable). Owner is a nice woman and I can tell she's doing her best. Even as my anger was rising after waiting in person for an hour for food I pre-ordered on the site 30 minutes beforehand, the owner calmed down the situation, prepared my order quickly once it was (finally) brought to her attention, and offered me a free beverage. Apparently my order had either been given to someone else accidentally or never came through on to the site. Unclear which as I was given both explanations. Rounding up. Came here for the oxtail and they were sold out. Got the goat curry bowl with rice. It was a large portion and tasty but seems like a lot of salt and butter as well. My friend got the chicken paratha. Her favorite part of the dish was actually the chickpeas on the sides which might be what they put into the doubles. I was so excited to find a Trinidadian restaurant in LA! Parking is tight, but I lucked up with a spot. The establishment is cozy, with some seating inside and in front. It fits perfectly in the community. Service was great, the young lady was super helpful with the menu options. The wait wasn't more than 10 mins on a Friday afternoon. The beef patty was delicious. Finally! A real paratha roti like the kind I used to get in Toronto. I don't understand these places that serve roti with the chicken curry out and then just a piece of roti bread that you're supposed to roll up yourself or dip in it. This place does those amazing Caribbean style burritos? I was so fond of. Really nice size. The people were very friendly and I took about 20 minutes to get my order. Wish they gave more of the chickpea side. The light red sauce is really good. Each piece is slightly smaller than the size of your palm. Roti with the veggie pumpkin filling: good but spicy. I wouldn't get this again. Sorrel drink: bottle. Good interesting flavor. It's a hibiscus drink. Service: friendly. There is seating inside but it's not very comfortable. Short story: The roti is good Long story: So I lived in NY for 9 years and developed a love and taste for a variety of of Caribbean food. It's no secret that it's hard to find good Caribbean outside of East Coast. When I find a gem in the west, it is a huge deal. This is a great Trini spot for roti at the very least. Veggie Roti: i like my roti savory and this had a sweetness to it from one of the squash they used. I didn't love that as i expected lots of yummy curry potatoes and some other veggies rather than sweet squash in the mix. That makes this a 7/10 for me based on what I can compare it to. However, the size was a it should be along with the cost (in comparison to NY spots) so that's a win. I paid $14 with tax. Chicken roti: they do prepare the chicken and got as is with bones (my sister didn't see the sign but I did) i don't recall them doing this in other spot I've had so that's different but she said it was good, juicy yet not messy. She'd come back as well. Her roti was i believe $17-$18. It's a good place to get Roti or doubles on a Saturday. They have a rotating menu with specific items on Fri-Sunday from what I read so that's definitely interesting. Also, the staff was your typical dry energy Caribbean lady which is a standard rather than an offense when you visit Caribbean spots. The men are usually more extroverted as opposed to the women. My favorite Caribbean restaurant in Los Angeles! Came here today with two friends that were visiting from the islands and they needed their food fix. First off, the service is great. We were able to talk to multiple staff about the restaurant and other things and the conversation was definitely pleasant. For food, I got the chicken roti and doubles while my friends got the oxtail plate. The portions are huge and everything was delicious. The restaurant is located in a shopping plaza and has plenty of parking on the street, as well as the plaza. It overall had a laid back vibe in which they play Caribbean music. Decided to get some doubles and found this place on yelp. Only open 3 days a week and limited hours. The restaurant is located in a corner complex with very limited parking. The spots are tiny too so big cars beware. The interior reminds me of the street side place in the Caribbean. We got there in the evening but at that time they were only serving doubles and daal roti. The food isn't as good as we had it in the Caribbean but they make a good attempt at it. The wait was quite long 30'mins for 2 roti and 3 doubles. The food was fresh from what we could tell but the doubles were too wet and sloppy. Didn't hold up to the sauce and filling. Heard about this restaurant through the grapevine, so decided to make the 1.5 hour trip from San Bernardino county to get some roti. Now I grew up in a church where most of the members were from the Caribbean so I know what traditional roti is supposed to look and taste like...and baby, let me tell you...this was spot on! The roti was soft, moist, and fresh and the chicken/potato curry filling was seasoned, delicious, and full of flavor. I had the chicken roti. I read that another reviewer had issues with bones in their curry but I didn't come across any chicken bones in mine. My son had the veggie/vegetarian roti and he enjoyed it as well, but kept biting into these big, hard chunks of mango pits. Not the greatest feeling. I mentioned it to the cashier and she just said "oh." I explained to her that they should mention it to those who order to be careful when biting into the roti that there are hard mango pits in the curry that I assume are left there for flavor. It could chip/break someone's tooth and then they'd have a lawsuit. The cook/owner should either pull them out before serving or cook them in a cheesecloth bag to easily remove them. This is why I gave one less star rating, instead of 5, which they would have deserved if not for the pits. We also ordered the doubles which were also good, but the bread got soggy since we ordered them in advance and didn't get to the restaurant at the time that we promised. Not their fault at all, it was our fault for not taking traffic into account. We will definitely come back again to try them fresh. Ginger-pine drink was absolutely delicious! My favorite. My son ordered the sorrel, but it was really sweet and didn't have any ginger. Would have been better if ginger was added to balance the sweetness. I ended up getting a roti skin by itself. The chicken roti had skin on the chicken and the chicken wasn't boneless. Roti skin by itself was 10/10. I'd pass on the chicken roti. The doubles were ok top barra was hard bottom was soggy. The channa was flavorful. But it didn't remind me of back home (Trini doubles). The banana solo was flat (not their fault). Overall I think my American friends who've never experienced real Trini food would like this place just not for a real Trini. Their customer service is great I will say. TriniStyle Cuisine is one of the only places in So-Cal where you can find great Trinidadian food. Trinidad and Tobago has African and Indian influences, which is reflected in dishes such as doubles, rotis, bake and shark, and pholourie. The doubles are two fried flatbreads that are filled with curried chickpeas, which I will definitely have to try on a Friday or Saturday. Everyone here is really friendly and hopefully Trinistyle will open during the week soon. Stew Fish: Sundays in Trinidad are big family affairs with substantial meals. There are a couple kingfish steaks that have been stewed in tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, and spices. The delicious brownish-orange gravy from the stew also coats some of the rice. Ask for some got sauce and you'll receive a scorching habanero sauce that has some sweetness. The sides are plentiful. Callaloo is made with taro leaves and perhaps other leafy greens that have been slowly cooked until soft. The macaroni pie is a square of baked macaroni, cheese, milk, and eggs. There's also a scoop of flavorful red beans and a tub of potato salad. Come hungry because this meal would be perfect during marathon training. Ginger Pine: This is a mix of pineapple juice and ginger. It is a really spicy, ice- cold beverage that ironically cools you off from the heat from the food. read more
