I went to a wedding expo with my friend in town and stumbled across their booth when they had small cupcakes for samples. I had the almond, red velvet, and strawberry champagne. Each were soo good, especially the almond! It was seriously good, I am considering this as a wedding cake. I've gone there just to purchase cupcakes for friends and special occasions. I'm not much of a sweet eater, but love their frosting is not so sweet. Unlike Sugar Jones. Their cupcakes are very moist and just yummy. The only reason for the 4 stars is that I haven't came back since the new owners. I know the recipes were probably passed down, but I feel even when I purchased cupcakes with the new owners, something was a little off. I thought I'd give them a try--I'm having an Open House--long over-due, since I bought my house in March 2020. Anyway, I love Sugarjones, but wondered how they measured up. I don't think they do. Their cupcakes are not as substantial--but more importantly--their frosting is loaded with sugar-but no layers. No depth. It's all sugar! I like frosting to be interesting. Light, soft, multi-layered, multi-faceted. Everything tastes the same! Heavy with sugar. You don't taste butter. Or vanilla. Or Cream cheese. What you taste is sugar-and a lot of it! They can afford to spend more on their ingredients. And a champagne cupcake ought to have a light whipping cream frosting. That frosting was way too heavy and sweet! I was once a caterer-and I know! (Just so you know- I am a cupcake officiando! I have devoured cupcakes all over Atlanta, New York and Chicagoland... I think in my lifetime I have consumed over 1,000 cupcakes? So I know! :) These are perfectly baked cakes with perfect icing (not too sweet)- full of flavor, unique combinations. They are the perfect 4 bite size, and perfect cake/icing ratio. Most cupcakes have a filling as well- which is just added goodness. Some cupcakes even have alcohol in them! -signature flavors: I have really enjoyed chai latte, pistachio, chocolate chip cookie (has cookie dough inside!), almond (its soo delish!), signature halo cupcake (OMG- caramel... inside!), espresso brownie is my hubby's favorite, oreo is yum!, hummingbird (with pineapple and pecans!), OMG cupcake (is truly OMG! you have to try it), snickers (tastes just like the candy bar!) -alcohol inspired: white russian, kahlua and margarita is what I've had so far-- yum yum yum! This is a local mom-pop shop, it's located in a small strip mall and you could easily miss it- if you see the building with furniture attached to the vertical wall- you've gone too far. They always have a selection on hand (sometimes they have some frozen in the back). Definitely order in advance if there is something you are craving. Very reasonably priced at $2.50 per cupcake. I wish they had a frequent cupcake card (that is my only complaint) They also make cakes- but I have never had before. :) But the cupcakes set a great precedent! read more

We recently bought two cakes and a few dozen mini cupcakes. One cake was for a birthday party, the rest was for desert at our small wedding. We actually a couple weeks visiting each cupcake shop in the Rockford area and decided that Halo Cupcake was the best all around option. The cupcakes and cakes did not disappoint. They were delicious. We even had some that were vegan, although you couldn't tell. They were just as good. The butter pecan cupcakes were especially popular. From a true cupcake connoisseur, these cupcakes are AMAZING!!!! Was surprised with these gems one day and all the way from Loves Park, these are some of the best cupcakes ever. I am a huge fan of the lemon blueberry and also the pumpkin chocolate chip. But everyone was delicious, there is the perfect amount of frosting and the cupcake itself has the perfect density and flavor! Better than any big city cupcakes, hand down. I don't even know where to start. This place makes unbelievable cupcakes. The staff is so friendly and inviting. They helped me out of bind by staying open a few minutes late so I could surprise my wife with some cupcakes on her Birthday. And wow! Both my wife and I are very particular about cupcakes because a lot of places have such dry cakes covered with pretty frosting or exciting names. Not Halo. Grabbed 18 cupcakes today from Halo for my Mom's birthday party. What a great little place! The cupcakes were fresh and delicious! Classic and unique flavors like a strawberry champagne! The red velvet frosting was the best I've ever tasted. They cost more than cupcakes you'd buy at a grocery store but they are many times better! We were so incredibly happy with the sweets - and service - that Halo Cupcake provided for our wedding! Our mini cake (6 inch round bottom, 4 inch round top) was beautiful, and the Twix flavor was delicious! I also commissioned Stacy, the owner, to make a little Brutus Buckeye out of fondant to hide underneath the flower topper - my husband thought this was the coolest! Our cupcake flavors included Cinnamon Roll, Red Velvet, Lemon Cream (our favorite!), Strawberry Shortcake, Peanut Butter Cup and Twix. They looked awesome on the stands (rented from Halo) and were a huge hit with all of our guests. Though our wedding was in Wisconsin, it was great to have a taste of my hometown on our big day. If I could 0 star I would!!!! Got a cake for my daughters First Birthday from here. The baker said she could make it just like I had asked. When my wife picked up the cake she called me crying and saying our daughters first Birthday was ruined!!! I told her to stop payment so we did. The day after Thanksgiving we get a small claims summon for a cake that looked horrible, fell apart before she got home, and didn't taste very good!!! At this point our party was less than 3 hours away!!!!!
