Delicious burgers, although they are a messy to eat. The place is small and doesn't fit many people but it's well worth a visit for the cheap, good food, and the nice owner. I got the banana joe burger, which came with fries, and it only costs 52DKK. The burger is huge by the way. The vegetarian burger is 35DKK. My sister and I decided to eat at Banana Joe's after hearing all the good things about it on Copenhagen cheap-eats websites. My sister is a vegan so I thought she was going to get the vegetarian burger, but she decided to food at another place while I waited for my order. Joe was super nice and genuine. He gave my sister a free burger after she returned with her food. He had a little chat with us and refused to let us pay for the veggie burger, which my sister said was delicious. I would have eaten at Banana Joe everyday in Copenhagen if we had stayed nearby, but maybe it's a good thing we didn't or I'll gain fat! If you're reading this, do it! Go eat at Banana Joe! There are saints...and then there is Chiheb a.k.a Banana Joe. Like everyone else who uses Yelp and that other travel site to find the best places to dine while traveling abroad, my wife and I were lured into this burger joint during our honeymoon by the cacophony of five star reviews scattered across the interwebs. We went in expecting a good, cheap burger after hitting up all the Mikkeller bars and To Ol during the day. What we left with was, indeed, a few great, (and massive) affordable burgers, but also hours worth of stories, a new friend, and a bolstered appreciation and perspective for the experiences of someone whose background was so different from our own. I won't go into everything Chiheb did for us while we were at his establishment, as I don't think it should be expected he go as above and beyond as he did for my wife and I. With what I witnessed during our two times at the restaurant, I don't think we're the exception, though. I watched Chiheb treat every customer like they were his own family, happily serving up his burgers, chatting about his life, and having spirited conversations with just about every patron that entered his door. I observed the man do things they tell you to do in the Bible. I listened to him passionately chat about his home country, his incredible journey to Denmark, his day job (of course he works at a hospital), his family, and his views on why he treats the people who enter his humble burger joint the way he does, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, or even their ability to pay fully. If you don't have an intimate and educational experience at Banana Joe, it's either extremely busy (Chiheb runs the restaurant by himself) or you need to check yourself...because the problem definitely isn't the man flipping the patties. As for those patties, the burgers themselves are pretty damn tasty. My wife and I both got the Banana Joe Special, a juicy monstrosity of medium/medium-rare beef, heaps of perfectly melted cheese, and fresh veggies, as well as a curried "special sauce" and fried egg that ooze everywhere and double as a great sauce for the fries (also well done). There isn't much in the way of drinks, but do you really need anything other than an ice cold Coke or Fanta for your burger munching needs? As a self-proclaimed burger fanatic, I've had a lot of burgers considered the "best" all around the world. While this wasn't the mind-blowing, life-altering experience I've had a few times, I doubt you can find a better burger in Copenhagen. Chiheb also cooks some mean fish...but that's a story for another time and place. Coming from somebody who had just hiked Trolltunga and Preikestolen, devoured Swedish meatballs in Stockholm, and also dined at Noma and Restaurant Krebsegaarden while in Copenhagen, eating at Banana Joe was one of the highlights of my wife and I's three week honeymoon in Scandinavia. Chiheb is truly a special dude, and it was an honor and privilege to enter as a guest at Banana Joe...and leave as a friend. read more

Banana Joe is the best burger I've had in years, and I had it not in the States, but in Denmark! Color me surprised. Joe was such a kind person, and he was endlessly patient with the two clueless Americans who wandered into his restaurant. I got the special burger, and it was covered in this special sauce that reminded me of a curry gravy. It got EVERYWHERE: on my hands (oops, should have eaten it the Danish way, knife and fork style!), on my face, in my lap... luckily, most of it made it into my mouth, where it was a flavor explosion. I've never had a burger with cucumbers on it, but it was a shockingly good surprise. Joe also told me that his restaurant is just a fun hobby, which blew my mind. If I had a burger-making skill like his, I would do nothing else and count it as my community service. Then again, I'd also be about 500 pounds... read more

Joe was awesome! We had no Danish kroner so he said that we could eat and pay tomorrow, but since we were leaving the next day, we found an ATM and took out 100 kroner and ordered two special burgers. They were delicious and quite filling. Joe even have us two free cokes and Popsicles for our troubles and had a chat with us. If I ever come back to Copenhagen, I'll make sure to come back here again. read more

After 7 years on yelp, I'm happy to give my 500th review to Banana Joe. I've walked/biked by this place so many times; first mistaking it for a smoothie place and later your average grill bar. Don't make the same mistake as I did. "Joe" makes burgers with care, using fresh ingredients and charging you the bare minimum. We got a cheeseburger, a deluxe cheeseburger, large fries, and a coke here for 100 kr. No brioche or truffle or fancy cheeses here; he uses a soft burger bun, ubiquitous orange cheese, and what I'd be a fool to assume was free-range meat. However, it all comes together into a hot, beautiful mess with good crispy fries. What you get is a very straightforward burger and great conversation with a genuine and friendly guy. Even if you can't get a seat in this closet of an eatery, I'd still get a simple burger and fries to take away. My only regret is not seeing that they have a burger that comes with a fried egg! Next time, Banana Joe. read more

Was struggling one night to find some good cheap food. Followed the reviews and was not disappointed at all. The owner was extremely nice and explained the menu to us in the hole in the wall restaurant that you could easily walk by. There were a ton of regulars coming through who knew him as well. Just be sure to bring cash if you have a foreign card because ours wasn't working. However, the owner gave us a nice discount when we paid with cash when our cards didn't work. The burgers were delicious. We got a cheeseburger and a Banana joe Special (cheeseburger with an egg). So filling and tasty for a really decent price. As an American, I was very happy to find a good burger place in CPH and ill definitely be bringing friends back. read more

I would have given four stars had I been a big fan of burger, but I am not - so it's going to be an A-OK from me. To be fair, the burger (I got the Banana Joe special, with fried egg inside!) is delicious. It's got great sauce and very messy to eat (and Danes, you're supposed to eat burgers with your hands!) and I like it the way it is, especially with that price. What a bargain! But like I said - I am not a big burger eater, so chance that I am coming here again to have a burger is probably minuscule. read more

I was with family and friends visiting Copenhagen. Before the trip, we looked up where to eat at Trip Advisor and Yelp. Both sites have high rating on Banana Joe. So we thought we give it a try since it is just a 10 minutes walk from where we stayed. Although the place is small and there are tables outside the restaurant, but the restaurant is clean and cozy. To our surprise. the owner does it all. He took our orders, he cooked, he cleaned and he served. We ordered a burger (I forgot the name but it came with a fried egg) and a chicken burger. They were sooooo good. Chicken was moist and the sauce on both burgers were just unbelievable. One of our friends asked for the sauce recipe. Joe said it is his secret recipe. Joe took time and have a chat with us. His English was good and he is funny too. He is a hard working honest man. We all very happy that we went there and have such a wonderful meal. I highly recommend this place. It is a burger place but these are extraordinary burgers. Try it and you wouldn't be disappointed. read more

Seriously great food! Joe's veggie burger is a nice size with good flavor. It comes with a good amount of veggies (lettuce tomato cucumber onion) and a creamy sauce that doesn't overpower the burger. Also, it doesn't break the bank! It's a good deal and I will definitely be back! Probably the best veggie burger I've eaten in my time in Copenhagen. Forget the falafel joints. Joe is a genuine and hospitable proprietor of his restaurant. While the size of the place is modest, his food is as big as his personality and heart. One of us was on the fence between the fresh fish burger and the cheeseburger. He gave her a free "sample" which actually was nearly the size of an entire burger! We came in at dinner time with 7 of us and he had the entire order done in 10 minutes, even with a couple change requests after our initial order. His burgers are really as good as the reviews say they are. Fries are a must as well. He even gave us a free coke to wash them down with. While handling payment for our order, he conversed with us personally in 3 different languages. I felt like he was welcoming us in his home. If you don't make your way here at least once, you're missing out on a gem of a restaurant. read more

If I could give this place 10 stars, I would because it's that amazing. I've been traveling through Western Europe with a friend and we found this wonderful restaurant through a blog recommendation. As we continue on in our travels, were find ourselves missing Joe and Joe's burgers already. First - the food here is so delicious and priced as a bargain. The menu may not be full of varieties but it honestly doesn't need to as there is something for everyone. I got the salmon fillet and my friend got the Banana Joe burger, which comes with an egg. It's listed as a fast food place but it's better to eat here instead of take out. My salmon burger was very flavorful and juicy, the combo of the veggies and sauce was delicious. And the size of the burgers are huge. One burger will be enough to fill you up. The true magic of Banana Joe is the proprietor himself. Joe is the sweetest man ever as well as extremely multi-lingual. We conversed easily with him in English and some French. He cares alot about the customers that come through his shops, hence the way he prices his meals and the attention he gives to each burger. He hand makes everything! And there is only him working at the restaurant too, which is extreme dedication. We feel blessed to have stumbled upon Banana Joe's as not only did we get to consume great food at an amazing price, but also to have found a friend in Joe as well. read more

Excellent, simple food at reasonable prices, both of which are definitely a rarity for Copenhagen. Don't just pass by Joe's: drop in for great hospitality and tasty eats. One of the best burgers around with plentiful tasty meat and good seasonings. Is it a Michelin star stop? Nope, but it's the perfect stop off for a great, economical meal. Grab a chicken or beef burger off the grill, sit down, and have a chat. You'll be well rewarded for your time. Jose is a remarkable owner with a keen sense for humanity. read more

Banana Joe's is a surprise wonder in Copenhagen. Excellent quality food, simple - delicious food at a reasonable price, and Chiheb himself, the light and soul of the place. Walking along the street you'd be surprised by the small, Spartan shop he's created, heck, I'd even walked by a few times without thinking about it. But take that chance, step inside, and give him the opportunity and the food, sauces, and hospitality will knock your socks off! The shop itself is clean, organized and the kitchen is in great shape. Banana Joe is a chef with a real passion and drive for good food and a firm believer that the people make the atmosphere and the place. You can drop by for a Burger, or for great company and good conversation. Humor, community and mouthwatering food all mixed into one. Banana Joe's Special burger is dripping with sauces and flavor, a large patty seasoned perfectly, mixed with a flavorful surprise of sauces and toppings that have rightfully earned Banana Joe's the prestige of best burger in Copenhagen. Not in the mood for a burger? Don't despair, Banana Joe's Taxi Steak, Chicken, and mixed grill plates are equally delicious. With a perfect blend of flavor that compliments each individual taste, and come together in a symphony of goodness. He has made a couple of special dishes for me over the last few weeks, and I have to say, he made a ravioli that was the best I've ever had. Without a doubt the most tender, delicious in mouth texture and taste I've ever experienced for Ravioli. He know how to cook almost every type of food, but he puts a certain passion and love into his food that makes it special. Be warned, the shop is designed mostly for take away, and there is only counter/seating space for about six people, with two or four more seated outside. That said, it is absolutely worth it to wait for one of those seats and get a chance to talk to the man himself. The owner is a one man show, and he's passionate and friendly with a big smile, a great sense of humor and a welcoming hospitality that is hard to find in todays rushed modern world. Great burger and an even better experience. I visited this small burger shop on my visit to Copenhagen based on all the rrave reviews. This restaurant does not disappoint, the food is cooked fresh and prepared with love. This is not typical fast food as once an order is placed, it'll take some time to prepare and cook it. Not knowing what to order,I went with a simple cheeseburger and fries. The burger was cooked well, came with all the typical condiments, and had a sauce that was really good. The owner is one of the most genuine business owners I've ever encountered and even though I only spoke to him for a few minutes, the quality of his character really stood out. read more

While visiting Copenhagen, we were excited to try Banana Joe and sink our teeth into a hearty burger after trekking around the city all day. From the outside, Banana Joe is a "hole in the wall"-esque restaurant that's easy to miss. However, I'm happy to report that it's well worth making a pit stop. THE GOOD: - Banana Joe sticks to one thing and does it very well: burgers. We each got the "special burger", which is a big, beefy burger with cheese and a fried egg (vacation calories don't count, right?). Take your first bite and everything comes together to create this runny, juicy burger heaven, with the yolk and special sauce drizzling down your arm and over your fries. - The owner of the shop is a one-man show and made us feel right at home. We are picky eaters - I don't care for pickles, cucumbers or tomatoes on my burgers - and he took care to make each of our burgers exactly as ordered. - A special burger, side of fries and can of Fanta came to less than 100 DKK - a true rarity in a city like Copenhagen. THE BAD: - I pose this as a warning to folks that don't like getting messy: you're going to get messy. Personally, I don't mind one bit, so I'm not docking off a star - I'm not trying to look my best when sitting in a burger joint. The owner has forks and knives on hand if that's your style. We found Banana Joe's online and saw the reviews for it that said it was great. It's in the area of our Airbnb so we had to try it out. It was delicious and definitely worth going here even if it's not in your way. Joe is a super kind and nice person, accommodating to what you want in your food. The food was delicious. My girlfriend and I were in Copenhagen recently visiting a friend on our semester abroad. We arrived late and checked Yelp for anything near to our hostel that might be cheap and good. Banana Joe's 5-star rating convinced us to walk the extra couple minutes over the next place on the list and wow - Joe certainly didn't disappoint. Not only was the food fantastic (easily one of the best burgers I've ever had anywhere) but Joe himself was awesome! He speaks so many languages (I remember Danish, English, German and French off the top of my heard), and even gave us free fries to boot! Needless to say, if you're ever nearby, Joe's is definitely worth a try. read more

The owner is pretty nice and I had the banana joe burger. However, I don't see the reason that people rave about. Burger is good because of the sauce. But I could not taste anything of the burger, not the patty nor the egg, but the sauce. I'm sorry. However, the price is reasonable as the portion is biggg. Came upon Banana Joe due to all the hype on Yelp and TripAdvisor and left with the appreciation of a great attitude, taste of familiarity, and the importance of reviews. Banana Joe doesn't try to be more than it is, which is a basic burger shop at a relatively solid price that's manned by an awesome dude. Is it the best burger in Copenhagen? I certainly haven't tried enough in town to say. But it is decent at best, though perhaps I've been spoiled by LA. The burger, while substantial and messy (in a good way), is overcooked. While my friends' food were fine, I found a small hair in the middle of my burger. And finally, unless you're craving a burger, if you're looking for a value meal, there's dozens of kebab shops in the area in the same price range. read more

Before we started eating "Banana Joe" the worlds friendliest owner/operator had already made the trip worth while, cracking jokes and sharing stories, he's a real gem. Then he delivers the burgers, fresh and huge from his spotless kitchen. Don't let the humble space or ridiculously low prices fool you, this is a class joint run by a man that really cares. "Joe" tells us, "You are Americans right? Good all Americans love my burgers." Well, I can't imagine who WOULDN'T love his burgers, but he was at least right when he assumed we would. Fried egg, super fresh meat, and his special SECRET sauce (which he happily shared the ingredients for as soon as I asked about it). Don't overlook the fries either: crisp, flavorful, and just the right amount of Kosher salt. Can you tell how much I loved it yet? Well if not, just go eat there yourself. You won't regret it. Oh and Joe gave us free drinks because it was his daughters birthday! I mean really this guy...epic! read more

Joe is the real deal! He even spoke with us in French after he heard us talking in French. The burgers are definitely huge, tasty, and you can order the french fries because they were amazing. And all of that for a very cheap price... who asks for more? As said in other comments: foreigners, bring cash as credit cards other than "Dankort" are not accepted. (there is an ATM close and Joe let us go there to withdraw some cash) The place is not that big inside but there are several tables put outside when the weather is fine, and that makes it more enjoyable! Superb! read more

Cheap well made burgers. However, as a burger connoisseur I would like to see Joe try making his own buns as well as upgrading the fries to a better brand. I would gladly pay extra. The service by Joe himself is great as he is very open and friendly. read more

I don't know what all the hype is with this burger joint. I ordered the Banana Joe Special Burger (52 DKK), and I must say, this burger was not even close to being one of the best burgers I ever had. I'm not sure where everyone is from, but they're clearly not from anywhere that serves out of this world amazing burgers. It didn't help that my burger was cooked well done, despite my specifying medium rare twice to the owner. The sauce had a Turkish flavor to it, but even that was underwhelming. Even the fried egg, which makes everything tastes better, was overcooked and didn't add to the burger. The service was ok. I was served my burger to go even though I had every intention to dine in, so it made for a very messy experience. The service was ok. The owner was nice, but it wasn't anything to talk about. I probably wouldn't go back here, nor would I recommend it. I don't know if I came on an off day or what, but it certainly wasn't busy here. This place is small and only has a few seats. And by a few I mean 2 tables and 6 chairs. And no toilets, so don't even think about chugging a beer before you come here. Credit cards are accepted here. read more

Loved Banana Joe! I went with two friends a couple of months ago, and we received awesome service. I had the chicken burger, and they each got the Special Banana Joe burger. Both were delicious! The cool thing was, I went again with my boyfriend this past week, and the owner remembered me! He's such a nice guy, really likes to know what his customers think of his food. He set up the table for us, and made us feel very comfortable and welcomes, even for such a small place. The burger is wonderful - he puts a delicious sauce on top (can't figure out what the flavor was, which I know is super helpful, but it was delicious), and an egg which is new/awesome to me, and your other average burger toppings. The burger itself is very good but we agreed it's not the absolute best we've ever had - the whole ensemble of the toppings is what makes it so good. Great portion sizes. Reasonable price. Highly recommend, and I plan on going back! read more

My last night in Cph, I wanted a burger, even a bit far away, I still decided to go to Banana Jor due to the ratings. And I'm glad I made a right decision. The owner is SO friendly! Even after I forgot to order fries (I thought they're included like McDonald's), he gave it for FREE. About the food, I don't know what he did to make his special burger taste that amazing! Banana Joe basically lightened up my last night after 3 "meh" days at Cph. However if shop is rennovated to look cleaner and brighter, it will be a bomb! read more

as the other review says, it's easy to walk by this place but don't. you should stop and grab some food. sometimes keeping things simple is the best way to do it, and that's the philosophy behind banana joe's. the food is made fresh when you order it, not from a freezer and heated up. everything is seasoned right. sit down and watch "joe" grill your items and it's easy to see he cares. that's what makes this place special, you're not just another customer, you're a friend. after we ate, we got a chance to speak with "joe" and he told me his secret - care about your customers and give them good, fresh food, at great prices. and it works. read more

I can't even write this review without fantasizing about the burgers and fries there. Definitely one of my favourite places in town for a burger. It's great food, nice service, and super affordable (aka student budget!). Tiny shop with limited seating. I mean they have 6 chairs technically, but I don't how you can get 6 people seated in there and still have access to place an order. Anyway, you should go when you're craving a juicy burger and crispy fries. read more

Banana Joes is a real find. The burgers are very good and reasonably priced. The small size burger is actually quite large! Plus the guy working there is super nice. Note to tourists: they do not accept foreign credit cards. read more

Great tasting food at very cheap prices relative to the rest of Copenhagen. Literally a hole in the wall but that adds to the charm in a way. Very friendly and fast service. Get the special burger if you go! read more

My kids are really picky with food, and being born and bred in NY they know a thing or two about burgers. We ordered two plain burgers and French fries and this satisfied them beyond belief. They said the burgers were better than those that me and my wife make on the grill at home ; ) After looking long and hard for good burgers in CPH we found this place. Does not hurt too that they are inexpensive. read more

Joe's burger is one of the best burger I have eaten. As I watched how he cooked his food, you know that he cooks them with love. Just like the way he treats his customers. He sacrificed his once big restaurant to share his love with his customers. He said this makes him happy. If anyone is around Banana Joe's area be sure to visit Joe and eat his food. Joe was awesome!! He surprised us with a specialty burger and grilled the burgers right in front of the customers! It felt like eating at home. He also gave us free chicken kebabs and trusted us to go get cash when our American Credit card didn't work. The prices are way lower then it should be. One of the best going out to eat experiences that we have had! read more
